One of the best TV shows Sanford and son ever

The father is Fred G. Sanford and the son is Lamont Sanford. Sanford and Son is the name of their junk business.

Fred Sanford is definitely one of the greatest comedy tv characters of all-time. This was a great show (especially the early seasons).

Yes my favorites are season 1,2, most of 3. After Redd left the show and then came back I feel the following seasons lost a lot of there charm.

Redd Foxx was the greatest!

The actor who played the black dentist also played a customer ( looking for a trumpet) at Sanford & Sons Junk business in one episode.

Love when she points at her face when he says "color". What a pretty young lady. Redd Foxx is someone I grew up with on my TV and love.

The Black dentist was the voice of Soul Train and their sponsored haircare line.

This was fabulous, Blessing! Classic comedy, they don't make them like this anymore. Thanks so much for reacting to this. BTW, Fred is the dad (played by Redd Foxx) and the son is Lamont (played by Demond Wilson). You really ought to find some whole episodes and watch them in your personal rec time (not necessarily to react to). I think you will love the series. There are even more characters to meet that add excellent comedic flavor to the series. Look for Aunt Esther, Julio Fuentes, Shady Grady, and a lot of others. Keep up the great work! For people that don't know in those day for many poor black families a color tv was a luxury. I ought to know we had a black and white tv.

The idea behind Fred’s reaction to the first dentist has a bit of truth, for as explained by one the writers on the show Adell Stevenson, there was at times a fear that because of Jim Crow laws and fewer opportunities a black doctor or dentist would not have experience or proper training, that’s where Fred’s prejudice is coming from.

This was in California in the 1960's. "Jim Crow laws" started in the late 19th century and involved only the Southern or former Confederate States. By the 1950's and 60's these abuses stuck out because the rest of the country weren't doing them. It was a fight to stamp it out in places like Alabama. Prejudice was still around in the 70's, especially in the South, but not legally. And if you listen to some of the funny things that Fred says about Julio, his hispanic neighbor, the mentality in the NON-Southern States at the time wasn't necessarily for all races to live in as one happy home together. But, it WAS to tolerate each other, and see each as equal. There were less minority and woman doctors i the 70's. But, it was growing then, and not too unusual compared to before. The show Emergency that ran during this same period had a black Emergency doctor. The audience laughed because this HAD been the stereotype. And Fred, being an older man, wasn't up with the times.

Fred, Skillet, Leroy and Bubba demanding to see the Three Degrees in that club was one of the funniest for me, but there were so many others---that episode where he tricked Grady into thinking he was getting busy with Gradys fiancé Dolly, almost made me die laughing
