I don't (fortunately) relate to that line at all, but when he sings it and you hear it sung back and see the faces of those doing so, it's impossible not to.
I’m 47 , struggling with drug addiction , my 16 year old son saw Sam at reading last night , told me this was the highlight of the set . It’s was me that told him to make sure too go see Sam fender . This song reminds me so much of when I was young . Going to kick this habit I’ve had enough . Next gig Sam plays I’m going to be there with my boy . Sing our hearts out . Thank you Sam Fender . A true hero . Your music connects people .

Loving your passion Jack. I'm now in my 62nd year and went to my first gig as a 12 year old (Bowie). Been lucky enough to see Zeppelin,The Who,the Stones,Springsteen (30+ times) and so many more. My daughter and me will be at Wembley in April for one of Sam's gigs and I'm as excited about this as i was about any of the above.
I was there in this moment, I didn’t know who this man was until I went to this concert, Loved every second of it. First concert in my life and I listen to his songs daily.
Just a random boomer here. This song is an example of brilliant song writing, masterful story telling and leaves no doubt for me that live music is alwasy better!

"I was far too scared to hit him, but I would hit him in a heartbeat now" just resonates so much to teenage angst and fear. I'm late 30s and this song has just caught me in the head. Terrific songwriter.
The way the crowd is 100% in and Sam notices. Just beautiful. The connection when they are performing is so good. Bravo Sam.
"I was far too scared to hit him, but I'd hit him in a heart beat now" sung back from the audience with the same passion and intensity as you'd find in a Springsteen concert, audience and performer one entity. Great!
The best upcoming act to come out of the UK for a long time
In my 42 years in this life i have never witnessed such an AMAZING BEAUTIFUL talent and more than a well needed breathe of fresh air to music than this geordie lad.goose bumps every time.OUT OF THIS WORLD SAM.
As a 47 year old ex hooligan, with a very disfunctional childhood and an everlasting love for my Mother for believing in me.. Thank you for this song Sam.
You know you've written a transcendent song when someone from across the globe listens to an automotive podcast and the hosts, from LA, just rave about the artist as they play the song, just to share the music with their listeners. This is how a 50 year old guy in the northwest US finds Sam Fender. Then, the music takes hold and the addiction really starts. Sam, you and the fellas are going global. Lookout... It's gonna be a wild ride! You're damn right that "we did it boys, we fuckin' did it". You sure as hell did.

That shot from behind looking out over a crowd of 30, 000 singing the song back to him. Epic. From one Geordie to another, Sam, well done kidda...

What i love about this is his body language. He is a working class kid who has had it a bit rough growing up but he stuck at the thing he loves and now cant quite believe that he and his mates are DOING IT. Well done Sam,from a working class Eastend boy.
A pure connection between artist and listener is such a beautiful thing
the vibe of this concert was unbeatable. still get goosebumps now listening to the end of that. you guys deserve every success, legends x

I love the sheer joy on his face at seeing all those people enjoying and singing his song!
absolute chills at the end when sam said "we did it"
At 53 I am later to most parties these days, and that's the case with Sam Fender. But, having found him, I'm obsessed! Lyrically and vocally amazing. I can't remember anyone talking to a disaffected youth in such a way since The Smiths. And if the saxophonist doesn't get to play with Bruce Springsteen at some stage, that will be a travesty. A reincarnation of Clarence Clemons!
Absolutely brilliant, Sam fender speaks to people of all ages, gender, etc etc. I'm nearly 50 and love to see the kids in the audience get it, music that means something. Keep going as you are Sam, bloody amazing.

I'm older than you and I absolutely love this lad. His music is just amazing, wonderful lyrics and he's a world class singer. It's great to see a talented musician being loved by all these young lads and lasses appealing to the young of both sexes and us older ones are listening to him at home!! The thing is the types of things he writes about are relevant to young people but a lot of them are timeless themes. We've all been through what he writes about. And I'm so proud he's from the North East and doesn't mind letting his accent come over in his singing.

The song brings me back to to being 17, 24, 28, even 5 years ago (I'm 39). Powerful song, vibe, and the connection Sam has with his audience. ♥️
Been hearing this song on the radio for a couple of months, didnt know who it was but it HIT me the first time. 60 years old, punk rocker in my teens, getting shit tossed at us, getting the remarks from peeps, getting beaten up cause we were different and stood out of the rest. dont take no shit from anybody and be who you want to be and look like you want to look like. Sam Fender you are fucking brilliant
I can’t imagine the rush of playing in front of a crowd like this. A great song, a great performer, a great audience.
What a gem. Didn't know him until he opened for The Stones last month but my 11 year old did - from FIFA - everything about Sam and his band is brilliant. So glad my kids' generation have music like this to grow up with.
During my 64 years I've heard some great music from Queen to Elton John and AC/DC and many more superstars through the years . This video persuaded me to download both albums. It has the potential to be a classic of all time. The crowd interaction is immense. I am originally from Tyneside so to see this man performing with such enjoyment is inspirational. Brilliant. Well done.

Dude can write a song, next level poet. Music is my life and when something gives me goosebumps and my eyes swell filled with tears wtf man else can you ask for in a song, unbelievable
Sam's music floods me with the feelings of childhood, growing up poor in the US, listening to Springsteen. This art hits you right where it hurts, makes you feel again and remember we are all experiencing this mystery of life together. Thank you for your work & keep going, just like the Boss.
As a 65 Year old this man is extremely brilliant and his music will be heard all over the world
very, very good...greetings from germany from an old man who loves good music.
Can't imagine what it must feel like when the songs ends and the audience continue the harmony, as an artists that must be what it feels like to have made it.
When I was 17 I held my mother as she seized in drug withdrawal, my stepfather raging blind drunk in the room next door. It gets better. Thanks for this song.
I can say that we were very lucky to hear him live when he and his band were the opening act for Bruce Springsteen in Rome 21.May 2023. If I close my eyes while listening to this song I "fly" to this wonderful event that will remain in my memory forever ...
I'm 43 and I litterally cried watching this. For various reasons hard to explain. YOUNG PEOPLE ROCK. Don't let them keep you down.
That performance and atmosphere got me all emotional. Sam and the rest of the band must be having the times of there lives.

Me and my brother were both in agreement that this was the best gig we’ve been to. Unreal lad, keep going all the way to the top!
Feel so emotional listening to this. It feels like the soundtrack most Geordies who grew up in the 80s can relate to, a mix of Billy Elliott, hardship and Euphoria because this beautiful lad has risen from the ashes.

This is a modern classic. The lyrics to a lot of this song could have been me as a lad, and I'm 44 now. I think that's why so many people love it, because it talks about them and what they went through. That's what music does, it connects us, and Sam's a natural at it. I love his music, great to see such a talent coming through and getting success he deserves.
Absolutely love Sam Fender. This song is definitely his Born to Run.
I was there !!!! It was incredible he was so chuffed with everyone singing back at him ❤️
generally one of the most magical nights of my life
British Northern working class sensibility and musical legacy ( Sam Vendor) meets Bruce Springsteen meets The War on Drugs - and for a newly established artist that’s quite the accolade - he makes me proud to be British. Listen carefully to the lyrics of Born in the USA (which is the exact opposite to a flag waving tribute to the US ) or Dancing in the dark or Born to Run and they all talk of the desperation and despair that growing up in depressed and poor post industrial areas can cause. With high unemployment and very little opportunities for young people to find a career and build a life of their own it’s very easy to feel defeated before you have even started. I remember how hard it was being 17 and how the world didn’t take me seriously and how lost I was. Now looking back on it I see that I should of understood and appreciated how young I was and how much I had to look forward to but I just couldn’t. Before I even heard the song the title ‘17 going under’ immediately resonated with me and then the rest is why I’m here writing this and why you’re reading it. Sam Vendor flies the flag for his generation and shows how much they have to offer. The older generation are quick to dismiss them as lost behind their phones and in social media with nothing to offer and no substance but he proves how wrong they are - although I’m part of the older generation I never gave up on the younger ones of today - keep on keeping on. I hope one day when you’re 50 (like me) a modern day Sam Vendor will move you as much as he has moved me to express myself in words.
Ain’t it funny how music can turn your day upside down..... Sam you make me proud to be British mate.
It's one of the best songs of this year, I love it
1:06 the moment Sam realizes that he and the band are on another level.
