Jenny Medina i started to tear up a bit. I never interacted with my grandmother and she passed away 7 years ago. I missed out on her wisdom and her cooking. She used to send me maíz crudos (a corn cookie) and they were the best. I never learned the recipe. 😢

I just made some pupusas, and my advice on making them is that the dough must be very moist, and the fillings should not be cold. For instance the cheese should be semi-melted so that it has a smooth consistency.

I agree, the dough HAS to be moist. I usually wet my hands when making them if they start drying out. Keep the dough covered between making them.

Greetings to everyone from El Salvador, municipality of Mejicanos. Blessed are the pupusas.

I’m half Puerto Rican and half Salvadorian. My salvi grandmother has to be coerced into teaching me to make pupusas. She’s never withheld from me that she couldn’t fully love me because she didn’t like that I’m half Puerto Rican. I’m at the point where I don’t really care anymore since I’ve never had her love but listening to Curly express so much appreciation and love for his grandmother really got to me. Pupusas really are the only thing that keeps me tethered to part of myself

If you’re grandma still hasn’t taught you, I will teach you virtually! I love pupusas my mom taught me when I was 17 and I have made them for years. They are big in Guatemala also 🇬🇹. I grew up mom Canada and there weren’t as many authentic latin food places growing up so learning how to make it was important to me

I absolutely LOVE this cooking series! I was RAISED by my grandparents from birth so watching Curly cook with his grandmother makes me so happy. My granddaddy died in 2015 from Cancer and My grandmother died this year 2018 of Cancer as well. Thank God they were my parents ! I am forever grateful ! Watching people cook with their loved ones brings back good memories :)

I love curly talking about how much he loves his grandma, and when he fed his grandma at the end so sweet! 😭❤️🥰

The way Curly described his relationship with his abuela makes me think of how close my daughter was with my mom... and how hard it is now that her grandma has passed😢 So good to see elders being loved and appreciated when theyre still in our midst❤️❤️❤️

What many people dont understand is that " los abuelitos " After having been around life in the harshest of times can be so supportive of us regarding our personal choices, throught thick and thin they're always there and it's a blessing having them around. Some parents particularly the older, are just as beautiful, maybe those generations really went through things that would make anything else than the love and support for us, irrelevant! OMG I loved this video. I learned to make Pupusas a while ago. From my Saldadorean friend. I’m Mexican. We trade off recipes all the time. These are so good my family loves them! You made me hungry. When you started getting choked up I lost it. I was right there with you. That’s how I feel about my Mama , she’s passed and she’s the one who taught me how cook. It’s true nothing written down no measuring cups . All from sight. I still cook like this to this day. It’s the best! Keeping family traditions alive. I’m so happy to see this. Tu Abuelita es Preciosa! Keep cooking together.

My aunt made some years ago and I have never tasted any worse than hers lmao. My mom on the other hand makes the best pupusas, she is Mexican and she learn to make them because my dad is Salvadorian and loves them. I’ve tasted many in El Salvador but none compare to my moms.. I think it’s cause she adds a little Mexican in it lol. Pupusas is always a crowd pleaser for both sides of my family.

Awe Curly, I got emotional with your video before you got emotional lol. When your grandma said cooking reminds her of her mother. I was raised by my grandma and she was also my best friend. I'd visit her pretty much daily, listened to all her stories, cared for her when she was on hospice until her last day here on earth. I hope everyone spends as much time as they can with their grandmothers if possible. You'll never regret those cherished memories and moments.

We lost contact with our pupusa lady and I had been dying for some for the past year. I got desperate and decided to look up recipes. I picked yours because I instantly fell in love with you and your abuela. It was the perfect choice. Very easy to follow and the taste was just like the ones I used to buy. Everyone loved them. My grandma is critically ill in the hospital. As an Iraqi-American (1st generation), she accepted me being gay before anyone else in my family, and always called me "honorable" for being the person I was, openly gay and unapologetic. I love her to death. I felt Curly's pain when he mentioned that time is limited.

I've been meaning to try pupusas for a very long time. I watched a bunch of videos and when I found Curly and his Grandma Gladys I was thrilled. I built up the courage today to make the pupusa dough and made cheese pupusas, they are delicious. My son and I thank you for this Pupusas for Dummies video.
