They are disrespectful and too comfy with people, you can talk with a person you have never seen and they will talk to you way too informally. I know this does not sounds too bad, but it bothers me a little. They are also loud, unpunctual and take things very lightly. (Sorry for the awkward english and if I'm being too salty)

SOOOO HAPPY TO SEE GUATEMALAN FOOD! their videos almost never touch on Food from there. It’s okay, there’s so many countries, everyone has their opinion & if you really think about. There’s only so much culture being TRULY represented through videos. Most of the people who talk about their culture are kids born in the states, they don’t have much real understanding of it. I grew up in Guatemala and I will tell you EVERYONE had their own version of Paches, but I will clarify it for you folks. Paches consist of masa that’s made with potatoes. And tamales are with masa de maíz. Both are very different from one another, and there’s parts of Guatemala where Paches aren’t made hence why “Real” Guatemalan people don’t know. It may be a small country but there’s a lot of different cultures in itself. Fun fact Guatemala has over 23 official dialects 😉 not everyone is the same

The Puerto Rican Pastel is not made out of yuca, is mainly of plantain and green bananas. They are complemented with other root vegetables like yuca, malanga, ñame, or other root vegetables that you find in Puerto Rico. I am a Puerto Rican from Barranquitas, Puerto Rico and I have seen and helped in the process many times.

My guess is that because they wanted to make 4 different types of “tamales” he decided to showcase the ones made out of yuca. I do agree that most pasteles are made of green banana and a complimentary root vegetable. I’m concerned about the bitterness factor when it comes to yuca, I always add 1 potato to my yuca masa so that it keeps the bitterness at bay. Regardless I’m glad we were represented in this video.

I would just like to add that in Mexico, there are other types of tamales besides those made with corn husks, there are also those made with green corn leaves, and those made with banana leaves. Veracruz, Yucatan, Chiapas, and Oaxaca make their tamales with Banana Leaves instead of corn husks. The Banana leaves adds a flavor to the tamal that makes it taste so much better than the corn husks. The green corn leave tamales (corundas for example) also add a flavor that makes it taste more delicious.

It’s really cool to see everyone’s version of a tamale. I’ve never had a pache even though I am Guatemalan. In my parent’s part of Guatemala we make our tamales differently. They’re similar to a Mexican tamale but more wet because we add extra sauce to it. Plus we use banana leaves rather than corn husks. Really great video!

What I love about making tamales in my country Costa Rica, is that at Christmas, families gather to make them we called "Tamaleada" and many are made for the whole family to share and give to friends and neighbors. 😊

Laura Ortiz my family doesn’t make them we typically get them from neighbors or people we know that make them for sell so everyone makes them a bit differently with yuca or plátano or combined so I think I’ve tried most of them they all taste good and the garbanzos add more texture since you know they tend to be very soft.
