Zoologist here. Adult crocodile wins almost every time, it's not really even a fair fight especially since WildCiencias forgot to mention they can actually reach 1,300kg's although rarely getting larger, in the recent past males could get to 2000kg+. A salty could crush a polar bears head like a watermelon having the strongest bite in nature today. Though if it came to a setting where the two animals were similar size? They'd avoid each other like the plague. Just doesn't make sense as a predator to choose fights that could leave you mortally wounded even if you win.

Salties are highly intelligent and I think it might be as smart as a dog, above average for other mammals and maybe the highest of all reptiles. Even more intelligent croc is the cuban which hunts in packs and can gallop so they would work together to kill prey

This is probably the toughest match up I’ve come across. The Saltwater Crocodile would end up the victor most of the time, however. 8/10. Grizzlies are formidable predators, however in this case it’s coming up against a 1 tonne apex predator. And they get even larger than this, some very large individuals have been clocked at 1200kg. This is quite literally a predator the size of a bull Plains Bison. With THE most powerful jaws of any terrestrial predator, by an enormous margin (around 4x that of the Grizzly itself). Grizzly would put up one hell of a fight. It would be in vain in the end however.

Agreed. The croc can take way, way more punishment than the bear and still be fighting on top of having insane striking speed / reaction time. Salties are more formidable than Nile crocs, and there are instances of 350-400kg Nile crocs taking down 1000+kg animals like giraffes and black rhinoceros. One of those instances involved a 400kg croc overpowering and killing a giraffe ON LAND. Salties prey on large sharks, big cats, large ungulates, and anything else they can get their jaws on. The bear is a formidable beast, but the croc will beat it.

The Saltwater crocodile has a much stronger bite force than even the vaunted grizzly's. The saltwater crocodile also far outweighs even the biggest grizzlies. This fight is a complete mismatch, there is no way a grizzly would win against a big saltwater crocodile, they are completely outsized.

Bear is only predator who has chance to kill adult male hippo 1 vs 1. So it can easily kill a croc. Croc has biteforce but even small animals can time to time escape. Bear would hit crocs jaw of and after that there are no weapons for croc. And in land of course bears would easily go behind croc and crush and bit it to dead.

@The mammal you shouldn't even compare strength between the two, the croc rely on its jaws the bear mainly relys on its arms the croc has superior dragging force being able to drag animals like a 1 ton buffalo which a bear could never drag with its smaller jaws, on the other hand the bear has larger forearms the crocodile has useless fore arms that basically offer no real advantage in a fight between the two.

770 kilo bear is VERY Rare if we are talking about inland grizzlies. Those Are 272 to 350 KG, Even 400.

Sometimes people overrate crocodiles while fighting on land , yes they are explosive but I really doubt if they can inflict any serious damage on an animal as big and tanky as a 700kg brown bear while fighting on land , they are quite immobile on land even though they can make sudden movements in a quick burst , but in water the saltwater croc would win almost everytime for sure , on a river bank with water close by it's a tough call , really depends on how the situation turns out but maybe saltie has an edge there too.

If the crocodile could move around and run around on land like other animals I might have agreed with you but they are just not built for killing large animals on land. Their long muscular tail is basically of no use on land at all . Ive seen vid of a grizzly overturning an 800 kilogram rock for food , I've also seen them crush open big metal cans in search of food and also absurd shotgun shots to the head. It just doesn't make any sense to tell that a grizzly ( that too a 700kg individual) would loose on land

or death role. If a grizzly loses a limb its done for which the croc could probably easily tear one off. People keep on saying "The grizzly will use its 6 inch claws to defeat the croc" but the croc has armor made out of scutes which are stronger than elephant skin. On top of that the weight, size, ambush, bite force, and all of that just adds up to the crocodile winning.

Just started watching, so I say it depends on depth of water. Both powerful predators, but crocs use water to advantage. If shallow water the bear is powerful enough to hold it's own.

I would say the grizzly bear wins 75% of the time on land while crocodile wins 90% in water. But overall on a riverbank I would say the saltwater crocodile wins 60% of the time. A fairer battle would be nile crocodile vs grizzly bear.

I'm going with the grizzly bear. I've seen grizzly bears take two slugs from a close range shotgun and keep on attacking. (Granted this was a mama bear enraged and she felt her cubs were in danger) Also, you seem to downplay the power of a grizzly bears paw swipe. They are strong enough to decapitate an adult moose. Even a Nile crocodile can't decapitate an adult zebra with one bite of its jaws, and a zebra is a lot smaller than an adult moose. I don't think an adult saltwater croc would go after an adult grizzly, at least on it's own. And I don't think an adult grizzly would attack an adult croc. Both creatures are all about maximum calorie intake with minimal caloric output. In other words, they like easier meals than each other offer.

@@IDK-vw8ey The psi of an average shotgun blast is 11,500. In other words a hell of a lot more impactful than the bite of a salty. Grizzly bears have been recorded on video taking a shotgun blast at close range and still charging. Again, even if they somehow made it into the same environment and were both at full strength I don't they would fight one another. Both are more opportunist hunters and prefer prey to easier to kill. Grizzly bears while capable of killing adult moose and American bison rarely go after adults. Saltys rarely go after prey the size of an adult grizzly bear. Not only are they more difficult to kill, but also because ingesting such large prey is difficult for all crocodiles.

i’ve always wanted to know this one

Years ago while camping in the NorCal Sierra's I witnessed a black bear which are much smaller than a Grizzly take a karate chop swipe at a very think fallen pine tree and it literally exploded. IF you had a heavy ax or sledfge hammer you couldn't have produced that type of violence. It didn't just break it into two. The point of impact was like a small explosion. This was on a steep slope leading down to a river where I had just been jumping around on the rocks oblivious to the potential danger. That was a black bear so I can try to imagine what a grizzly could have done but imagination is not reality even when you get it right. I gotto go with the Grizzly.

Agree with forces of nature. The idea that the croc is easily pulling the bear into the water is crazy. Watch a grizzly flip a moose and then tell me the croc has better leverage on land. In the water the salty is king. On land its just as 1 sided for the bear. On the river Bank is much closer than ppl think. A grizz flipping a moose I can understand when you look at the height, weight, and length. However a salt croc has more weight, 3x the length of a moose, and lower center of gravity. It's not gonna flip those stubby legs over as easily. The center of gravity and the fact that the bear has never dealt with this obstacle before plays the biggest factor. However, saltwater crocs have battled lion, tigers, great whites, orcas, and other apex predators before.

You just proved the point against yourself. A crocodile is heavier than a moose and has a way lower center of gravity. That’s maximum leverage. It’s the equivalent to car driving on top of your hand. Even on land, the crocodile has the advantage. If it manages to grab any limb, it’s over. Doesn’t matter how much that bear gnaws and claws. And crocodiles have skin thicker than an elephant. That paw swipe isn’t gonna break it’s muscular neck.

You got two apex predators that can dominate one another. If it's near water, than the crocodile would dominate the grizzly because of its size, its bite force, and its very elusive underwater. If it's on land, the grizzly would dominate the crocodile, because not only the grizzly is very powerful, and more intelligent, but the grizzly is very agile for its size. This is a toss up.

Depends on wich turf

The bear has a bite force strong enough to humble a bowling ball. If it can get its jaws around the croc's head, it can end the fight pretty quickly. But the bear isn't as fast at striking as a big cat. On land the bear should have a respectable chance at winning, provided it can successfully ambush the ambush hunter.

Yeah no, the croc has a faaaar stronger bite, once that bear comes down face to face with that croc trying to bite it, that croc will take its opportunity to snap that bears neck. I used to live with these massive dinosaurs down in south Florida. A grizzly will be sorry fighting a croc, especially a massive saltwater crocodile.

Without water to drown it's prey a crocodile will starve. That bite force only kills small animals, a dog's bite is more likely to kill you because a dog is smart enough to attack the throat. Crocodile is a brainless thing that will eat it's young if it's even a little hungry.

Even on land a full sized saltie is pretty in vulnerable, it has armour plated skin which would be tough to penetrate. Large crocs have been killed by tigers, but tigers have much larger teeth than brown bears. No, I think the bear would leave the croc alone.

@@bdr32965 I highly doubt a 700-pound bear could tip over a 2,200-pound croc, especially one fighting so viciously. Not to mention, crocs aren't as slow as people make them out to be. Therefore, while a battle to the death would be pretty unlikely in real life, if it did take place, I would go with the croc.

Salt water crocs are strong both on land and water... their skin is so strong a bear can't damage.... the jaws are so powerful they crush anything they bite within a second... No land Carnivore can win against an adult Salty

There is a video on You Tube that shows a Bengal Tiger on a river bank probably in India that walks up behind a Large Crocodile and gets the Crocodile pinned down and was able to hold it in place. A big Male Grizzly and a Male Tiger would be a ferocious fight to the death. They can both stand on their hind feet and strike out with their claws and roll around on the ground in a fight and have tremendous biting power. The stamina of a Grizzly is incredible and would help in any fight. There is another video on You Tube that shows a Grizzly trying to run down on a herd of caribou and He was able to match the speed of the caribou for about a mile but did not pull one down.

That viral video of that tiger killing that saltie even then the tiger which was female btw lost 2 teeth in the encounter but the tiger was intelligent encircling it knowing it can’t run then going on it back if only the tiger had the knowledge of the jaguars that you have to bite the skull not the neck it would not have lost teeth

A baseball bat is to weak to damage a crocodile not to mention a gorillas joints are more restrictive then a humans meaning a gorilla won’t hit that hard

Grizzly are very at home in the water and if it is shallow enough, they can put up one hell of a fight! I have seen Nile crocodiles lose their grip on animals far weaker than a Grizzly and although a Salty is larger than a Nile, they aren't as used to taking down larger prey. Big cats such as Tigers and Jaguars, will kill large Crocs and Caiman on a regular basis and they aren't nearly as strong as a Grizzly. In my opinion it would take a perfect strike at the head and a very steep drop into deeper water for the Croc to be effective if it happens on a bank. If the bear were swimming in deeper water I would give the advantage to the Croc obviously but near land I think the bear would be a tough out! On land, the bear has it's way with the reptile!

Bear is powerfull enough to pull over 2000kg Jeep out of water. And now im talking not wild 450kg Finnish brown bear. Who also could easily kill a croc. So they would have no problem to pull big croc ou of the water. And large male head is too big for croc. Crocs biteforce starts then they can tight up they jaws. Open up there is not much power at all. Bear head can weight even 150kg and skull is basically untouchouble even to other bears. Only rifle shot in right place can kill bear 100% certain. Google Juuso bear in Finland. 500kg really nice bear in wildlife center in Finland. Im talkin around same caliber bear. Juuso is nice but he must be really carefull to not accidently kill his owner. Look the hole documentary. But the bear i was mention was not Juuso. And when he pull jeep up he was not angry just playing. I never seen angry bear and never wanna see.

@@Philotheist777 Croc is not even match elephant trunk. And tigers and lions kill crocks. 3 or 4 time bigger bear would just sitting it dead. Croc can not take that much weight on to him. Like in Circus where even small black bears killed accidently Lions and Tigers. Croc jaws are not large enough to be able to bite elepant head. Elepahant will allways destroy croc. Even smaller ones. Adutlt Bull is like 17 times bigger than Crock.

clearly, it appears to me that on land, the grizzly has the advantage over the crocodile. now, in water, the croc has an advantage ... especially if it's in deep water. at the water's edge, the grizzly won't just allow the croc to bite and drag it off minus struggling to defend itself.. ergo, the winner i think is actually the bear. size and strength plus those damn lons ass talons are long and sharper than the croc's claws.

the claws are not gonna penetrate the armor of an adult croc. they are not very sharp. about as sharp as a dogs claws. whats dangerous about a bear is the musle in those arms. the only place a bear and croc could meet is in the water. the bear wont see it coming and before it realises whats happening. the croc either grabs it by a paw. breaking it or ripping it off fast. and if it grabs the head of the bear. it can probably drag it to deep water and drown it. if it has not broken its neck yet.

The part that's not mentioned is the bears natural instinct is to take the back of its prey. The bear will 1000 % take the crocs back and use its claws to rip it apart In the water the croc will have the element of surprise and will likely win unless the bear can drag the croc to land.

Saltwater crocodiles has most powerful bite force of 3700psi to 7700psi which is much more than any other Reptiles.....Grizzly Bears can kill 14 to 15ft Saltie but not easily.....But a 17 to 20ft+ Saltie will kill Grizzly bear easily.....

saltys are much quicker on land at short bursts, if it can latch on to a limb the bear is toast, regardless of if it is in water or not. But the salty needs to work quickly due to lactic acid build-up, they can die of overexertion pretty quickly

Crocodile wins on all scales. Crocodile in water: Drowns grizzly. Crocodile on land: I see it being a seize fire with the bear being severely injured by the attack attempt. Factoring in length and weight of the croc, I don't see the grizz being able to flip it over or bite through the croc scales, and the croc would chase the bear on to land. So on land it would be a draw. 1-0 Croc wins, 2-0 croc wins on land just by inflicting injury.

I've seen plenty videos on KZread with cross struggling to pull bulls in the water, I don't think they're be able to drag a grizzly in the water even they grab it by the edge, or even in the water I think the croc would struggle with a grizzly one on one, I give the overall edge to the grizzly

@@pinkman17_ Indian Gaur aka Indian Water Buffalo are the largest bouvines in the world outweighing both Cape Buffalo and Bison. They weigh up to 2,000 pounds+ or 1,000kg/1 metric tonne+ and have been known to gore even Tigers to death. Not as aggressive as the aforementioned smaller buffaloes but are definitely much stronger than either one. Grizzlies weight about 250 kg + with the largest one being upto 500kg or just slightly more. Saltwater Crocodile can weigh from 700kg upto 1,000kg or 1,300 kg. Crocodile will find it hard to kill the bear due to its thick fur but grizzly will find it hard to bite through the thick osteoderm of the crocodile. Even the largest Polar Bears would think twice before attacking a crocodile if they were to exist in same place, since the crocodile is not worth the fight at all and if it grabs the arm of the bear it could easily death roll and dislocate or tear the arm of the bear on land atleast, water makes it easier for it to kill the bear.

Have no idea which would win. Bears are so much stronger, though, it seems to me, in all ways except with biting force. The bear's forelegs are so strong that I think they might pull the croc's jaws apart unless the croc manages a lucky and true death grip right away, which is never a certainty in the land of the wild. Anyway, if the croc wins and then swims off to celebrate, he might well serve as a tasty meal for either a huge great white shark or a killer whale, with the poor croc, in the case of the killer whale, lasting mere seconds. Such is life in the unstaged and unforgiving realm of nature.

Bear win this fight. Jaguar regularly beat aligator despite smaller size. Bear is much bigger and more capable. Once they get the back of salt crocodile its over.

1. My money is on the hyenas. They're immensely intelligent, and much stronger than wolves, with a more complex pack structure. 2. Cougars. Snowies are no joke but the cougar just has an overwhelming size advantage. 3. Cougars again. Cheetahs are not built for combat against anything bigger than them, or even in the same weight class. 4. Grizzly. The grizzly is much bigger than the grey wolf, who isn't that much smaller than dire wolves. 5. Orcas, they predate sharks in the wild.

Apart from the fight taking place on land , a full grown salty wins everytime .

Large male grizzly on land I believe would win majority of time , bears are intelligent and would have the advantage of the croc is their stamina, crocodiles would tire and once they build up with lactic acid would not be able to put up much of a fight , the grizzly would be strong enough to flip the crocodile over , if this happens the grizzly should not have any problems piercing the underbelly of the croc, in the water however I believe the croc would win majority of the time especially in water where grizzly is not able to place its paws on the ground the croc has advantage of stealth attack and could hold the grizzly under until it drowned , each one has advantage in their own elements

Most aggressive bear sub species is Himalayan black bear and short version of Himalayan black bear is sloth bear. Sloth bear and Indian crocs are always at war. Fun fact: Original jungle books Baloo is a Himalayan black bear and not a brown one.

If I understand what youre saying is that in the water its only ambush that defeats the bear. What happens, with his massive strength he does break free and there is a faceoff without the element of surprise. Would that change the outcome?

Face-to-face, no ambushes: the bear would see the teeth and avoid the jaws, keep its distance and wait for the right moment (assuming it wants to fight of course). Once the croc's jaws are held shut, the bear has immense advantage. Would the bear understand this? Sizes will matter. Are we talking equal weights (which seems fair enough)? Or a much larger bear (clear win), or a much larger croc (clear win)? What about Kodiak bears instead? With some exposure or training, the bear would gain an advantage by learning how to handle the reptile. Without any prior exposure, it isn't clear how intelligently the bear would proceed. It would instantly understand the teeth and jaws, and the croc would expose them. What then?

You could've added a polar bear or Kodiak bear to make it fair but oh well average inland grizzly are 600 to 700 pounds while coastal grizzlys average 800 to 900 pounds adult salt water crocodiles are 1500 to 1800 pounds which is nearly twice the weight of the grizzly and yes the crocodile is not adapted to land but it's twice the weight of the bear not only is it overall larger but it's far more durable not only does it have touph scales but they can survive like 7 sniper shots to the head just spell the end to a monster croc on KZread. Not only can the shrug of missing limbs and jaws and even tails but they are twice the weight of a grizzly so they would be far larger and far more durable it would take allot of bear swipes to eliminate the crocodile it wouldn't just be an instant kill not only that but it has a far more superior bite force bite force. In the water there is no match the croc has all the advantages size speed agility bite force durability there is no match in the water its a slaughter not a match but at land things become more even for the bear its far faster far more agile and has far more stamina along with having large claws and arms along with it having a decent bite. But I would favour the crocodile 60 to 65 percent of the time after all it is larger far more durable and has a far more stronger bite I agree a polar bear or Kodiak bear would beat it on land but a smaller grizzly just doesn't have the size or durability to take out the world's largest crocodilian
