Salt & Tar: Ep.208- Homeport
This is living! Rediviva pulls into her homeport for the first time. After a few sea trials in the San Francisco Bay we headed out to do some practical tests at sea. By the time we make it to Morro Bay, Ca she has 220nm under her keel. No words can fully explain or express how good this feels.
Thanks for watching!
p.s. I try and reply to as many comments as I can but we are still so so busy so please do not take it personally 💕

In Garret’s words “That’s a proper sailing vessel” Congratulations!
I can’t imagine the feeling of sailing a vessel that you built yourself back to your home port it must be amazing.
I hope one day to feel the emotional high that Garret & Ruth are experiencing as they bring Rediviva into her home port! Such an amazing accomplishment!! Congratulations you guys!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Maybe no words can express it, but the size of those smiles as you came into Morro Bay sure did. Congratulations!
Love how real life "give ya tingles" moments translate through to the audience. This one was special
living the dream. nothing better, makes you appreciate life.
Where's the love button !! Magical time for you all. So happy.
“Milestone after milestone…a new life has begun!”…😎👍
Garrett and Ruth, What a beautiful coastline. You two are awe inspiring; a massive accomplishment. Thank you for sharing. More Tacos... Smile.. Cheers! Blue Skies, Fair Winds, and Following Seas. Faithfully, James
Awesome! The bags under her eyes tell the story, no auto pilot, no windvane, no ais, no radar, it will get better. Hang in there.
You are one of the few sailing channels I actually watched from the start. It feels special to see your ship coming in to her homeport. The world has changed a lot since you first layed her keel but it seems you have not. So have fun on the waters and thanks for taking us along!
welcome home garret what a great sail and tribute to rediviva well done both
MB was my home port for several decades. It was always a visceral thrill to see the rock and slide past the jetties. Congratulations
I was thrilled to be in California on vacation and made a trip up to Morro Bay just hoping you had made it there…. And there was the beautiful Rediviva! She sure looked great
Welcome to your new base guys. 27 hours and not a hic up. Well done you must be so proud.
27 hrs, what a little rolex, happy happy joy joy
Those grins! Magic. Respect.
Just awesome! words don't cover the feeling of hitting home!
As an old retired sailor I have such incredible admiration for the two of you. Your skills and tenacity are astounding. Most will probably not appreciate what you have accomplished. Congratulations!
Next week give us an extra 5 minutes of outtakes. I love everything in a natural state.
My boat is moored up in the background of some of this footage... babies a star now😁🤩
She’s beautiful, it’s so cool to see you both out there enjoying yourselves and all that hard work you did, this is the pay off, happy travels.
Will I ever watch this boat go anywhere, from now on, without crying? Don't think so. You two are sailing a piece of art. Wow!
That was a very emotional journey, for all of us. What a massive accomplishment. Congrats on your homecoming.
This is so cool. I can't believe how excited I've gotten over your sea trials. I'm so pleased you're out of the docks; I peed a little.
And I must say she is one beautiful vessel great job.. Blessings to you all from the mountains of Southern Oregon
Fantastic ......the smiles on your faces as you entered morro bay was wonderfull
Now that you are on the water, you need a new intro! Oh, and there's something in my eye..... CONGRATULATIONS, you two!!!
Congratulations Guys, I did had the privilege to see this amazing dream became reality.
I love you guys. A wise man once said to me, "if you want to check if you are alone, take your clothes off. If anyone is around, they will show up immediately." Lol. I bet he never sailed. Blessings all.
Congratulations, very happy to share these moments with you.
I love it when people set an audacious goal and chip away at it until it is complete. I'm not a sailor, probably won't ever be, but who knows. You had a lot of difficult problems over the years. But you worked through them. Even when they were overwhelming, you kept going. While I realize you will probably always be doing something to improve/fix Rediviva, you have the ability to work through the good and bad. Your journey, will never be over. You have brought us along and are a true inspiration. You will face new challenges in the future, but I have no doubt that you will face them and find a way through them. For now, enjoy your accomplishment. I look forward to seeing your continued adventures.
The yacht looked good in the dock, but it looks so much more amazing under way...
...I'm not crying! Your crying!!
Where the dream all started!!
I’ve never cried watching a KZread. What a life’s accomplishment.
74MB. CONGRATS. 7 yrs 4 mths, Mauro Bay. Family, celebrations and a good old time.
I’ve never seen Garret so happy and relaxed, it is a joy to see. Well done.
OMG! Seems like I end up with tears with every episode now! Between the sheer magnitude of your accomplishment and the great editing Ruthie does - I don’t stand a chance!! ❤️❤️ Jeff Jensen ❤️❤️

Thanks Jeff ❤ R
Garrets Smile said it All better than mere words ever could..Ruthies Too !! Even Redaviva seemed to have more sheer for the accomplishment.. Swabs tail must have begun wagging too by some magical cannine sense while in s lucid dream many miles away..his new caretakers wondering what a wonderful dream it must be.
Your videos keep getting better and better; watching the love you guys have for each other is very emotional for me. I stop the video and go over and hug and kiss my wife each time I see you guys hug. We've been married most of our lives. However, that black deck house roof is driving me nuts. The boat can look so much better. Why leave it like that? Scrub it, clean it, do whatever you have to do, but brighten it up. Your exquiste beauty of a boat deserves the best. She's so stately. I love her!
And the emotions run high! So happy for you both
Yay! I was so bummed, I thought you forgot to upload! So excited. You made my night!
Three stacks and a rock..................... My old home as well.
Nice to see you Susan. Proud mama.
I have been watching since way back when you two poured the keel. Watching you sail her in was extremely rewarding for me, I can only imagine how it felt for you, she is a cruising boat now.

Yeah, we're all waiting for when *your* sailboat is going to re-splash Nick. What's it been, almost three years now on the hard?
I have been watching you two since the start. Thank you both so much for taking us along for the journey! Its been years and to see you guys finally sail to Morro Bay is even surreal to me (just a simple spectator).
She, both, are beautiful. Bon voyage.
I grew up in Santa Barbara and would travel up north as often as possible especially if a motorcycle was involved. My mentor and best friend at the time and I on one of our adventures decided to have dinner at Roses Landing in Morro Bay after a long day of hauling equipment to a friends property. At the time I was not particularly a seafood eater but had decided to try abalone, Id have to say it was one of the best meals Ive ever had, maybe second to fish and chips at Brophy's in Santa Barbara.
Naked tacos at sea...Life does not get any better than that! I find it hard to believe it's been a year since I met you two. I watch with pride your accomplishment and am proud to have been a very small part of your story. Nothing but love and wishing the best for you both.
I'm so happy and proud of you two.
I'm all choked up ! and teary eyed, I can only imagine the joy you both must feel. Coming home with Rediva home to Morro Bay. Congrats..

Happy belated birthday! It was an awesome day 🙌
Happy belated borneday Ruth :) congratulations on arriving into home port with dream liner well done , fair winds , fun and happiness , blessings ...
So cool!! I must've been sleeping in a meeting to miss you come by on the Morro Bay live cams. I was waiting. I learned to sail in Morro Bay with the Cal Poly Sailing Club in the summer of '81. I later lived on Acadia Dr, right by the golf course during my Jr year, '83-'84.

Then you were at Poly when the idiot took two gals on a Hobie 16 out of Avila. IIRC, one gal was never seen again and the boat came in south of Pt. Sal. The reason I mention that is because I was about to loan two boats to Poly sailing club. I backed out when that tragedy happened. Abundantly stupid to let big talking inexperienced fool to go out.
Dammit, something in my eye round about the mom hug.
Good morning from Siesta Key Florida
Garrett and Ruth it was so fun hanging with you two while you were in town the last month or so!! Must be a wonderful feeling to dock in your homeport with an outstanding boatproject behind you!! A million congrats to you both!! Your channel is a weekly highlight for me.
88 months you have worked on your dream. Nice that it has a stopover in the home port with such happy faces (even if they look a little tired now) and such a proud mother. I wish you many more such happy port calls. Be proud of yourselves, you are an enviable team. ✌👍💪🥂🎆 Congratulations from Switzerland
Wahoo 👍
Way to go! So good to see you sailing and so happy after all the hard work - cheers!
I wait for the distance shots because that is such a good looking boat. I have to admit, when it was first taking shape I wasn't sure what it would look like, but you knew all along what a vision this boat would be. She has an absolutely stunning profile in the water. Everything is perfect and it's great that you made the decision to redo the cabin top and make those proper walkways fore and aft.
