Rediviva is so beautiful! Thank you so much for taking us along to watch her come to life! I'm amazed you can keep up with providing video content while doing your sea trials... don't you ever sleep? lol! Sailing vicariously through you guys has definitely given me the 'bug' and I've received my own plans for a sailboat. May you have fair winds and following seas.

I build guitars. Every now and then, I get to see a really great player playing one of my guitars on stage, and it's just the best feeling in the whole damn world. Watching you guys taking that tack, and the power and movement coming from those sails; I got just a bit of that same feeling, and I can easily imagine how it feels for you guys. Congratulations.

Gabriel, I play guitar. Really I play anything with frets. I did a little digging and I think I found examples of your dads guitars and some of your electric guitar builds. I just had to tell you what I saw was stunningly beautiful sir. There is a black electric guitar with gold hardware (neck through) on a website that is quite possible the most attractive instrument I’ve seen. Well done. Are you still building?

@@larrimos Dad's pretty much retired, but I have taken over the shop and am building the acoustic guitars these days. The electrics weren't really stylistically in vogue while I was making them, and between acoustics and repair work I don't really have time for them any more. But yes, absolutely still building. I'll be at the Fretboard Summit in Chicago next month, if you are in the area.

I am itching for you to sail the hardest you can on Rediviva, just to give her a real test. Then just suddenly it made so much more sense to get into her rhythm gradually, to slowly learn how she behaves, how the gear holds up, and to quietly gain confidence in your creation. Loving what you two are doing!

First - Congratulations!! First real sail under all sails. Seven years in the making. I have to say that I binged watched the first 200 episodes. Took about a month. Then had to wait for this one. Total withdrawal pains. 😉😉I applauded you strength and fortitude. I only wish I had been aware of you and your project at the start. Many times you said you were hampered by a lack of knowledge or skill. But what you both possess is good common sense and a keen sense for problem solving. Keep on keeping on and may your sails be full. Thanks for sharing you adventure with this old man. ❤️❤️

Rediviva is showing the comfort benefits of a relatively heavy displacement vessel. The proof for me was how she remained so steady and upright in those big swells and at other times also. You will thank her for that in the years ahead! The boat is so together that I'm hard pressed to think of any ideas to offer you. I do have one small suggestion of only small aesthetic value which is actually an old idea I thought of several episodes ago. I notice that you are securing both the main and mizzen sails to their masts with ropes wound around the masts and it occurred to me that perhaps the traditional wooden hoops could add to the ambience of the boat. I'm sure Garrett will know what I am talking about. Hoops are still in use today on historical and traditional yachts thanks, I suspect, to the old sea salts of yesteryear. Heritage values are something I'm very passionate about! Happy sailing you two, and leave the world's problems far astern!

When you have put your heart and soul into her for the last 5 years its completely understandable to take a more conservative approach to the initial sea trial. Also, you needed to understand how she performs and reacts to the wind, tides and weather, and listen to her speak to you and work out the minor rigging issues. My heart leaped for joy to see what first started out as some planks and concrete turn into a magnificent sailing vessel moving through the sea with such yar. I cant wait to see Rediviva tacking against a 20 knot wind and beating her heart out as she pitches and crashes through the waves, and the two of you at the helm manning the tiller, what a sight that will be. I do admit I was looking for the wind vane, auto pilot and depth sounder, lol. Had a chuckle when I saw the makeshift digital sounder device being being dipped into the water to determine the depth for anchoring. At first I thought you were useing a special measuring stick with a line attached or something, lol. But then recalled this is a true to form sailing vessel built by hand from the ground up to sail as seaman of old used to sail her. A finger in the air to determine wind direction , feeling the air whisk across your cheek for wind speed, and its all done by feeling the boat respond to the elements. I recall as a young lad out on the Narraganset bay under 20-30 knots on a 16 foot sailboat, with no other indicators other than my own intuition and feel for the boat. Feeling the power and strength of the wind heel us over and the sea running over the gunwale's was thrill for sure and something every seaman never forgets. However, I still wish there was some sort of bench or chair to sit on while at the helm, but I am sure you two young kids can surely handle the effort with barely a struggle or creak in your backs, lol.

I think it would be a good idea to move the anchor roller down to the deck, instead of the bowsprit. The way it’s now I am afraid it might cause some dangerous situations when you get wind combined with waves. There will be some serious forces going through the anchor roller.
