I think the Patroits have a better chance at winning a Superbowl against the Rams since Payton and Brees' Saints have always seemed to get the better of the Pats in primetime games. Although it would be symbolic if Brady wins his last Superbowl against the Rams, like coming full circle.

I feel bad for us, the fans. Brees vs Brady would have been great. I’m not a Saints or Rams fan, but Saints should have won that game. The only way I would want to see Tom Brady in the Super Bowl again would have been against Brees. I believe Tom is the best ever period, however I’m bored with Patriots Super Bowls.

Rare moment when everyone on the panel is making a good point. -Stephen A is right to say the league is culpable for not allowing review with all the tech they have. -Max is right to say there is always give and take in officiating. -Damien is right that its inexcusable, unfair to the players. They had one job and blew it. Personally, I think officials should be removed from the field and placed in the booth. Have someone on the field to spot the ball, and that's it. The booth will provide a couple officials with a bird's eye view, replays, and multiple camera angles that are readily available and in real-time. They can signal a penalty or call for a review from there. The broadcasters and fans sitting at home have a better view of the game than the refs do. There is no reason for that.

Aaron vapes They are already overseers. That’s literally what officiating is, but their process is archaic and inefficient. What’s unhealthy for the game is watching these errors happen but doing nothing about it. Current tech makes it easier, not more complicated. No microanalysis required. All you’re doing is changing their field of view. Like a coordinator going from field to booth. The challenge system can remain the same.

Yes, it had the chance to be reviewed and the result was that it was the 'tuck rule'. I agree that this was a horrendous call too. But, in this case, it was blatant and wasn't even reviewed. I mean, the ref could have thrown the flag, spoke with the other refs and picked up if not a flag. But, the flag was not even thrown. Regarding the tuck rule, I agree it was a horrendous call that I would never be over.

I will agree the referee did a lousy job but had the other penalties been called that should have been called for the Rams that last possession for the saints might not even mattered because on one of those penalties the face mask touchdown and then all the holding on Aaron Donald the saint of the ball eventually felodipine left points for the saints and more points for the Rams I'm not trying to make excuses or anything for the Rams even though yes that is my team but throughout the whole game The saint violating the Rams with penalties not getting called. So in reality like one of the other Polo read things that sings the balance themselves out and besides if the saints were really a better team they would have made the touchdown is scored in overtime but they blew it the Patriots game was almost the same way but the Patriots had the ball at the end in overtime and they got it done when it comes down to it both teams that are in the super bowl are the teams that should be there

Yeah I watched the game at work and he was clearly hit. I figured in OT Drew Brees wpuld take over but thibgs dont always go your way. Falcons lost 2013 NFCCG almost the same way.

They also missed the blow to Brees's head on the interception in overtime. Unlike Brady's phantom roughing call, a forearm to the helmet actually fits the rule for roughing the passer and has been called all year long. The ball wasn't tipped on that play either, so the defender holding Thomas right before the interception to prevent him from locating the ball, also committed pass interference. Everyone has known for a long time that NFL officiating is a joke. There were 4 or 5 noncalls on both sides in the last 10 minutes of that game alone. There are blatant bad calls and noncalls that are obvious in real time in every game I've watched this season. There are always complaints by fans of any losing team every week, but get something that obvious on national TV when there are only two games for the media to focus on and there's going to be a lot more attention on it than normal.

That call wasn’t missed, it was IGNORED plain and simple. 2 refs were literally staring down the 2 players from 2 different angles from less than 4 yards away......you would be an idiot to think that the call was just missed. There’s no excuse for it and I’m done with this shitty league until made or missed penalties can either be challenged or reviewed. I don’t care who is on the field missed calls like that cannot happen. (“But the Rams still won in OT!”) Yeah there shouldn’t have even been an OT that’s the point. DragonSlayerJDB as a falcons fan, saints have always shot down the multiple missed calls in super bowl 51 favoring pats to let them come back, not to mention that the final touchdown by James White wasn’t even a touchdown because his knee was down before he crossed the plane,(clear video evidence) so I don’t feel bad for the saints or sympathize when they call nfl rigged because they were saying the opposite after that horrendous game. Truth is that nfl just wants pats to win another super bowl and the saints had the best chance to beat the pats, so they had to be taken out. Now Brady is gonna waltz in and get another undeserved ring. I mean did anyone see that “roughing the passer” when the chiefs literally only hit his shoulder? Because using the refs is the only way they can influence the game to be steered towards the outcome they want. And u know what they want this yr. Tom Brady winning another SB. Saints would have had a better chance of beating NE plus with the Rams in the SB it generates more interest and $ for them in LA. I wouldn't b surprised if Brady, Belicheck and Gronk all retire after winning it this yr. I also believe they wanted NE to win it last yr but my Eagles stole it from them. I think the only solution is to hold higher accountability and standards towards refs. NFL refs make more than the average college educated middle class worker. They should be fined, suspended or face employment termination for making clear/blantant mistakes (if this already isn't being done). And there should be higher requirements/qualifications for one to become an NFL ref or maintain the status of one. We see some old dudes officiating games. When the Referee's don't call a penalty in the first, second, or third quarter it usually isn't a big deal, but when there is less than two minutes left in the 4th quarter, in the NFC Championship game of all things, the missed or ignored penalty means everything, the Saints got fucked, but the Refs don't care because its just the Saints, the same thing would not have happened to the Patriots their the sweethearts of the NFL.

The same thing happened when Dallas cowboys beat the Detroit lions in the playoffs a few years ago was the same thing so to say it's the worst call ever is just flat out false cuz it happens every year to every team. And there's no facts that say the game would have been over had the call been made cuz it's a game and things happen so people are basing their opinions on their emotions. Bad calls are made and it's a part of sports and life so get over it cuz there was a bad call that went against the rams the first time they played when it was obvious to see that the refs made a bad call and didn't give the rams a first down on a fake punt so it goes both ways in regards to bad calls being made. These commentators are just mad cuz they all picked the saints to win and they lost the same way they won the regular season match up a missed call, so get over it. Time to move on..

I, like most of us, agree with Stephen A here. But as a Cowboys fan his pain pleases me😊.

I knew it would come down to something like this to change the rule which I've been saying for years now you have to challenge interference calls because a lot of times they just throw the ball up hoping to get a bad call

The N.F.L. commissioner should be fired or resign. This will perhaps allow whatever integrity is left in the N.ow F.ake L.eague to remain. Miss facemask calls happen very frequent in football and are often hard to catch by the refs - especially at the line of scrimmage where it is crowded with humongous men. However, dude this was in the wide open field i.e. one on one. Saints fans could have accepted losing the game if a ram's offensive lineman's face mask was grabed by a defensive lineman on that play or by any other infraction that was not so blantantly visible. Comparing the two infractions is like comparing "apples and oranges". This is no time for political correctness. The "beastmode" incident a few years back in the superbowl - and now this. Steven A. is on point e.g. "highway robbery"! . ( period )

What makes this an issue, is that the PI was sooooo egregious. If it had simply been your "run of the mill" PI, where there's a lot of contact involved, and the refs let it go, it would have been no big deal. But in this case, the receiver was hit so early, and so HARD, that he was sent flying 4 yards out of bounds.

Not only that, the hit was, as Max said, *Helmet to Helmet* In College, that play *would have been reviewed* not for Pass Interference, but for *Targeting* Since this is the NFL, it doesn't meet the rule. But, if this was a College game, Robey-Coleman would have been *Ejected* for that hit! EDIT: Either way, Stephen A. is right that this is on the Front Office.

I’m a saints fan but don’t live in Louisiana any more. Pro football is not a game like your kid playing in high school. This cost the players , the team and the city a lot of $money. Just incompetence at the highest level for a sports event.It puts a stain on a great rams season and it wasn’t there fault. The ref closet to the infraction didn’t pull his flag. He froze. The level of the moment and possible even the noise had his brain frozen. So no other ref in that stadium couldn’t pull there flag and make the call?? I think they can?. Everyone saw it.

A missed call for one team doesn't mean they owe the other team a free one. I agree with Stephen A on this one they need a system in place where someone up in the booth can call down and say, "Hey guys this call is too obvious and it should be this way." Phantom hands to the face on Brady was another one that comes to mind.

If you want to use one of them on a play where you thought a penalty was committed, fine. Go for it. That said, yes, a missed call doesn't mean the refs "owe" the other team. But it does mean that the Rams should have benefitted in the same way the Saints should have. If the game is 24-20, how do you know this pass interference play happens? You don't. But you owe it to both the players and the fans to find out. The Rams should have been able to challenge the face mask, and the Saints should have been able to challenge the pass interference. Can you imagine if the Saints had a 1st and goal, down 24-20 with less than 2 minutes on the clock? Does the Rams defense come up with a huge stop and carry them to the Super Bowl? Or does Drew Brees add to his legacy with another amazing win? You're talking about potentially one of the most exciting endings in NFL history. That's what we should have seen. But instead, we got some flubbed up, bastardized version because both teams got screwed.

The Superbowl Matchup is a Joke this year. I'm ready for the NBA but then again the Warriors still exist.

With seven officials on the field, I cannot fathom not one was watching the ball. I am beyond angry. At 56yo, I have grown up with the Saints, and I am beyond livid. We took the ribbing as the league’s whipping boy for nearly 40yrs. I watched every possible game and had season tickets for a while during that time and continuing to the present. Our first year with a +.500 season made many in the city have emotional breakdowns. Our owner died this year, I guess this is how the NFL (not for ladies) intends to deal with his widow. It will go down in history as the most pathetic missed call in history. Think how much money that call will cost this city. Our main industry is tourism and getting our name out there is important. To me, it is an element of having a team that pays more than most realize. To have just heard “New England v New Orleans” for two weeks is invaluable missed advertising. I hear there is a plan to have a parade for the Saints begin at kickoff of the Super Bowl. Who Dat, forever!

I've seen so many calls made, especially pass interference, where the receiver was illegally touched or disturbed and the call wasn't made until after the receiver cried foul and here comes laundry. It was never too late to make that call as it's done so often for the Patriots.

Even the rams player who did the pass interference was looking around to see A FLAG. PROOF THAT HE DID DO A INTERFERENCE.

I used to enjoy watching the news and the NFL, but now I can't watch either of them anymore because the people in charge can't be trusted.

They knew what they were doing. All it took was 1 ref to throw the flag..... 1 ref! Think about that and tell me that NFL games are not being manipulated.

I agree. Been watching for 35 years and didn't believe it was rigged. But, after what I saw on that one play it changed my entire mindset on the NFL being rigged. There is NO other reason that could happen. At a min, the ref would throw the flag if there was even a bit of doubt so it could be reviewed and he, who threw the flag, would be proven right or wrong. But, by not throwing the flag it made the play not reviewable. THAT is how you know it was fixed.

Just about one minute or more in... I agree totally, Mr. Smith; human error is understandable, for the most part, in many places. However, when you have a situation where fans come to see a professional-caliber sporting event(viz: NOT the WWE, or other such "entertainment" entities), and to see that it's being played, and officiated, in a straight-up and honest manner... then it behooves those in the officiating role to be sure they make the right call, at the right time, and when the reason presents itself. What happened here is a disgrace, and needs to be remedied *RIGHT AWAY.* If that means get the courts involved, because here we have people involved in a business enterprise that failed to ensure its workmanship was up to acceptable standard at a critical point, then get the courts involved. Maybe it'll make the NFL(and other sports leagues) sit up, take notice, and start geting the calls RIGHT more often! The technology has been there all this time; *USE IT, DAMMIT!*

Saints won the real game, The Rams won the rigged one....

People always still say “it doesn’t matter the saints still blew it in ot” that doesn’t matter. It wouldn’t of gone to ot if this was called, and on brees’s interception in ot, there was a clear hit to the head that caused the interception, so that’s two missed calls costing us a fricking SUPER BOWL!
