Payton did call a run play. Brees called the audible and threw the bad pass to Thomas. That one was on Brees.

So I guess the saints couldn't get over the missed call and decided to just stop playing. They allowed the Rams to tie. And then Brees throws a pick.. sounds like the Rams just wanted it more. Saints had their chances to simply just win the game outright. You stop the Rams.. you win. You score a touchdown in OT.. you win. But they couldn't do it

“They did enough to win the game.” - They clearly didn’t. The call did not decide the game. It factually did not. The Saints still took the lead. The Saints not stopping the Rams decided the game. The refs cheat everyone. The saints just got it at the worst possible time for them. Max is right in the sense of just because a missed call happens at the worst possible time, doesn't negate the other missed calls that could have swung the game themselves. You can't ignore all the other missed calls just because they were earlier but then focus in on this one. Like Max said, there shoukd have been a face mask called against the Saints on the previous drive that would have put the rams first and goal. That's a game changing missed call that everyone is ignoring simply because of when it happened. At the end of the day, thats why don't allow the refs to decide the game for you.

Saints never looked the the same after that cowboys game.

Drew had 1 TE, Josh Hill, in the game whom Littleton removed with his unflagged helmet to helmet hit that causes a concussion before the 1st Q was over. Then Robey-Coleman (even Buck and Aikman were surprised and they hate the Saints) had a PI on Ginn and instead of a dropped pass should've been 1st down!

But the player had a nice fine of $26K the next morning. Then later, 4th and 2 and the refs called first down! Look t up, it's pathetic. I was like what? Even Buck and Aikman said Sean can't dispute it cause he's out of challenges. Drew Brees did play well, and well enough to win the game that was decided by a terrible Ref decision to not call a PI. Drew Brees in that game through 2 TD, 249 yards passing, and a completion percentage of 65%. Stats don't lie. He could not throw the ball down field because the WR were not as open to get them the ball. The bottom line is the Saints played well enough to win and the game was decided on a lack of PI call. Period. Stats don't lie.

I agree with you, not only do they keep saying it was the game, which I do agree to a certain extent, because I do think it was a horrible missed call, but if we're going to do that we need to add points for the missed facemask on Goff and subtract points when the saints ran that play with no time on the play clock. So no the game wasn't solely on the Refs because at the end of three day the saints had a chance in overtime and they blew it.

You can’t got 6/14 42% on 3rd downs and expect on of the leagues best offenses not to eventually punch in a Touchdown or 2! as much as I hate it drew missed some throws like thomas in the end zone and ted on 3rd and 20+ and the field goals in the 1st quarter man you got to execute every time when your in the red zone and we got the coin flip so we had a chance to win it but drew shouldn't of have thrown it he knew he was going to get hit but we did have a good season we just didnt take the final step

The pass interference was one play but you have to it mitt Drew Brees did not play well and his wide receivers did not help

Will just butthurt. Had they played better in OT, they still could’ve won. They had every opportunity in OT to settle it. I get it that it’s one of the most horrible missed call in all of football, but you can’t say that’s the reason why the Saints lost. The Saints lost because Drew Brees threw an INT and the Rams capitalized. Point, blank, simple. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a horrible call in the playoffs of any sport so let’s not act like it’s the deciding factor every time.

So glad Max is bringing up the face mask only one in the media doing it

As a Rams fan, first yes it was a terrible call and a horrible outcome if you’re a Saints fan. Secondly, there are hundreds of plays during a game that change or do not change the outcome. New Orleans simply did not take advantage of red zone opportunities early in the game, left points on the board, mismanaged the clock and didn’t put the game away. You cannot rely on the referees in any sport. It’s sad but true. The Rams have been on the other end during the Super Bowl against the Steelers. It was a great game that the referees messed up. But the Saints had their chances even after that call. Don’t diminish what the Rams did.

Yup. The Saints did so well throughout 2018 with RPO's and Play-Action. The Rams SOLD-OUT to stop the run, and New Orleans didn't utilize more cut-throat passing schemes. Also, on the Brees INT, that was a 1st Down Play. Brees should've just taken the 3 or 4 yard Sack. Brees forced too many bad pass plays from the 4th qtr onward, took the game into his own hands in selfish fashion, and cost his team.

First Take is spot on with this conversation because when I watch this game and saw that I'm like "Dude, Where's The Flag????" You miss both calls on pass interference plus helmet to helmet, If I'm Coach Peyton and the Saints staff, I wouldn't rest this matter until the NFL league officials clear this mess because both games shouldn't been in OT and both games in general were extremely robbed/rip off. I hope the officials would sleep tonight on this because the officials will have a cold day in hell on this. Understanding that it won't change nothing, but you will cost football games and Superbowl opportunities if you don't get it right. Not a big fan of First Take but I totally agree on this matter. Chiefs and Saints will protest on these bogus calls because I never ever seen a derogation situation like this. Totally unacceptable. 😣.

if you don't think the refs handed them the game you are an idiot. they run out the clock and kick the game winner with no time. the league wanted the rams in the superbowl and they put them there and today all the announcers being paid by the NFL are trying to convince you the Rams are worthy when they were handed the game. NFL should be a shame of themselves but they got what they wanted. the league started tweeting right after the game how they were happy the Rams made it. well you put them there so I am sure they are happy. #RAMSDONTBELONGINTHEBOWL

The Saints had the ball first in overtime and Brees threw an interception and then Goff got us in field goal range. I'm tired of hearing about this one call because there were a few penalties that weren't called especially the face mask on Goff that would of set us up 1st and goal but you don't hear us crying. Only losers complain about the refs. We started the Patriots dynasty and we're gonna end it. Go Rams!!

MX Dude rams has the best Offense+Defense combo in the league the fact that we were down where we were at to begin with is good enough yes the Saints are good and their offense is good but at the end of the day the Rams have a insanely good defense you can’t expect nobody to just march down there in score all over again just because we started off with the ball... we were there to begin with and the refs blew it that’s why we lost the game period point blank🤷🏿‍♂️ What he saying is basically y’all had the ball y’all could’ve won and by saying that he is literally taking every good thing about the Rams defense away It’s not easy to just go score on a good Defense especially in OT But we were there at the end AND GOT FUCKING SCREWED 🦓🦓🦓🦓🦓

Look I’m a big Saints Fan, But this loss was on Sean Payton (New Orleans Head Coach). You can’t go up 20-10 and not put the opposing team away. You can’t got 6/14 42% on 3rd downs and expect on of the leagues best offenses not to eventually punch in a Touchdown or 2! You can’t drop-back 40times a game and only give Mark Ingram 8 rushes or Alvin Kamara 9 rushes. Like where the balance? The man completely forgot that he has 2, not 1 but 2 pro-bowl running backs in the backfield! You froze in the moment showing no creativity, everything the Saints ran was so Generic! No screens play, no motions, no crossing routes, no double move routes, no roll outs, no QB bootlegs, no shovel passes, no end-er-rounds, no jet sweeps, no RPO’s! Hell they barley even ran play action!Everything just Generic, they also punt entirely too much just giving the Rams more and more opportunities. I even recall he Saint getting and INT off of a Todd Gurley drop pass on the the 15yard line... still couldn’t score a TD! Like really bruh? Couldn't believe Payton calling that pass play to Thomas on 1st down. And earlier in the game taking Brees out of the play for 3 or 4 plays in the NFL championship is ridiculous. Aikman echoed my screams to the tv about that.

I’m a diehard OBJECTIVE Saints fan. Drew hasn’t been throwing the ball as crisp and accurate as he had since the 1st Eagles game. And he hasn’t thrown the deep ball well the past 2 seasons tbh. If you know Drew, you can see this. That’s why teams force us to throw the deep ball now. I LOVE my QB, but this is facts. With that being said, he still is a top tier QB cause he is still accurate short to mid range. But that one play is the sole reason we lost. It was clear cut in real time and if the call was made, we head to Atlanta. Simple.

BULL!!!! I am not a fan of either team, but the ref that didn't throw the flag on a most obvious pass interferance call is the one that put the Rams in the Super Bowl. That is wrong and America Knows its wrong. You say they were letting them play. Letting who play, the defense? sertainly not the Wide recievers. We can sit here and say Drew Brees did not play well, but the fact the matter is Drew Brees did play well, just not the typical Drew Breez great. Everybody saw it, everyone agrees that this was PI. Even the DB himself on youtube admitted it. If the correct obvious call was made, the Saints win this game.

There was 2 missed calls for the clock running out. The clock was on zero twice and Drew still had the ball in his hand. NO CALL.

Will Cain is incorrect. New Orleans couldn't run out the clock even if the pass interference penalty was called. The Rams still had one timeout and would've had about 20 seconds at least to try to tie it up.

A call is a call!

Don't let this distract you from the fact that Adrian Broner thinks he won.

That no call made a world of difference, Believe that.

I hate when people blame a referee for a loss. The thing is this, never allow yourself to be in a situation where you are placing the game on one call. You also must run the ball. Too often we want quarterbacks to get all glory in a high profile game. With a lead, you need to learn how to run the ball and trust your defense. Force the opposing team to use up those timeouts. You give them a free timeout with the incomplete pass and risk a turnover. This is common sense. Don't help the other team beat you.

I like how people keep saying that call was the game. Unless you can see the future, you don't know. Alvin could have fumbled, Brees could have had a bad snap exchange between him and the center. There are a million more things that could have gone wrong.

It was a horribly officiating game all around and there were multiple no-calls by the ref's towards the Saints, especially two delay-of-game penalties that weren't called when the clock was at zero for a second or two before Brees even got the ball. One was in the 2nd with 2:06 left when they were on their own 23 yardline and the other in the 3rd quarter when they were on the Rams 2 yard line with 8:41 left.

People won't remember yet another missed call

I can agree with Max. Drew Brees was not his best. The first two drives should’ve been touchdowns and then the saints would’ve been up 14-0 but we didn’t play like we normally do in the dome. We couldn’t knock the rams out in the first quarter. We had some chances to push the lead but we let the rams hang around. There was a third down where they put the ball in Taysom Hill hands and not drew hands. There were some calls Sean that had me scratching my head
