Fact about this war: Chile give intel support to british soldiers, because in Argentina around this time there was a popular cry of war that say's: "Primero las malvinas y luego las islas beagle / First the Falkland's Island's and after the Beagle island's" Territory in dispute that almost begin a war agains Chile. My father served in 2 para when he served in the falklands, if he was still alive he would have liked this I think, I’d live to hear a song about goose green ! My dad never talked about it, after he died his surviving squad mates told me stories of his service and it still makes me emotional now, love this band ! Thank you !

A bit like the notion some US Politicians floated at the time to lease the UK an Aircraft Carrier (the UK officially declined, though with appreciation for the suggestion), it was a shortage of trained crews to man them. Same reason why the two then remaining *Tiger class Cruisers* weren't taken along. Their 6" guns and palacial Helicopter facilities would have been useful, but there just wasn't the time to crew & prepare them for deployment. As it was HMS Illustrious was made ready and sent south with an airgroup, but arrived too late to take part in the fighting... but just in time to relieve her elder sister Invincible, so they could head home to a very warm welcome.

Im part Argentine, and my opinion on the matter is, the current residents are mostly British of origin, and prefer to be ruled by the British. For Argentina to control the Maldivas again, they would be going against the inhabitants will. I would prefer that Argentines peacefully coexist with those on the island, many of whom had ancestors that first moved there in the 1800s. The history of the island is actuslly quite interesting, has it has switched hands many times, with Britian being the last and current occupier.

To go against that will would be going against the people, international law, and declaring war once again. The islands are not Argentinian by right, it was a cock and bull story invented so a failing government could try to win some favour by instilling nationalistic fervour. The people are British by birth, are British by culture, and wish to remain so.
