========= Aces in Exile LYRICS ==========
In the skies above the isle, Aces in exile prevail
From near and far they arrived, joined the force
Ready to serve the allied command
Sent into training, though they already earned their wings
They were ready to fly, they were fit for the fight
Once in the air, the battle begins
They have proven their worth, now they fly for revenge
Fighter pilots in exile fly over foreign land
Let their story be heard, tell of 303rd
Fighter pilots from Poland in the Battle of Britain
Guarding the skies of the isle
Even at night shadows cover the ground
And the fighting goes on from dusk until dawn
With the claw of the Reich with the claw of the eagle
They were ready to fly, they were ready to die
Up in the air the battle goes on
They have proven their worth, now they have their revenge
Fighter pilots in exile fly over foreign land
Tell their story again, tell of 310
Men from Czechoslovakia in the Battle of Britain
Guarding the skies of the isle
Over the battlefield brave men long way from home
few are the chosen ones sent to the sky to die
Fly, it echoes in history
Turning the tide in the heavens above
Fighter pilots in exile fly over foreign land
When the battle has been won, tell of 401
Fighter pilots from Canada in the Battle of Britain
Guarding the skies of the isle
On wings of history they turned from home to live eternally skybound they roam
In all of history, never before was more owed to so few
Fighter pilots in exile!
========= Historic Fact ==========

Fun facts about the 303rd : -first victory was during training, and won with no bullets fired. The polish pilot managed to gently ram and push the german to fly lower and lower, until he hit a tree. -one polish pilot was shot down above a mansion, he parachuted and landed right on the tennis court, were a game was been played. He was invited to join. He won.

0:08 When I first discovered this song I was playing war thunder and that exact moment was when I was taking off in realistic mode - it sounded like the pistons of the Spitfire I was flying. It was going to click anyway, since I already started liking the band more and more, but that moment was D-I-V-I-N-E The dogfights were like nothing I ever experienced before, and since I was never actually a fan of WW2 gameplay I was usually very neutral to the propeller aircraft, but because of that instrumental I actually fell in love with the idea of World War 2 air combat. "On wings of history they turned from home, to live eternally, skybound they roam." Still gives me the chills after almost 10 years. I love you guys, I owe you my life!

I wonder when we can get the tale of Piorun sang as well? Piorun is a Polish Destroyer (or maybe Light Cruiser) that went ahead of the hunting party for Bismarck, engaging Bismarck in a 1v1 until the bigger guns get the range and the guns aimed. Throughout the engagement, Piorun was flickering (if I remember correct) "I am a Pole!" using its communication lights as it goes in guns blazing

The Battle of Britain is honestly one of the most inspiring events in human history and Sabaton really did it justice. A small island against a seemingly-unstoppable juggernaut made of hatred and honest-to-God *evil.* No one knows what the Eagle to the West or the Bear to the East will do, but so far it hasn't been much. But even if the state is alone, the nation is not, since--as the song shows--individuals from all over the world come to do what they can against impossible odds. That line at the end "On wings of history, they turn from home/ To live eternally, Sky Bound they roam" that goes into the Churchill quote just gives me chills.

When I first heard this song, I was thrilled to hear them mention Canada, by name! Also, am I the only one who gets folk-dance feelings from the chorus? I can picture this song being sung at a massive family gathering by an older man - probably someone who fought in this battle, or their direct son - and, as soon as they hit the chorus, everyone just starts dancing together. And as soon as the chorus ends, they get back to listening to the story. Am I the only one?

Thats probably why they're last while Poles and Czechs were named first. Canada wasn't an exile but "when the battle's been won, tell of 401". This was the first time Canada mustered her own airforce squadron to fight in the BoB, and they are in the top 4 in sending volunteers to Britain. New Zealand was also a commonwealth country that lent her efforts but this battle was momentous for Canada's newly mustered airforce.

Even (probably) the commanding officer of these fighter pilets was not British. Air Chief Marshal Sir Kieth Park, who commanded of the No. 11th group that protected London and was Dowding's second in command, was a New Zealander that fought as a flying ace in the RAF during WW1 as well as pilot instructor before being given his commands before and in WW2. He is also likely one of the main reasons many of the pilots that survived their time did. This is because he was the one that determined that non-essential data should be filtered out on radar (against the rest of air command's belief) and managed to get it accepted by presenting the result of unsanctioned tests he conducted to Dowding, which greatly improved radar as a tool for the pilots and ensured they received the information they needed to fight without being overwhelmed by too many potential targets (that mostly were not the enemy).

When the Polish pilots first arrived in Britain, they were treated as though they were incompetent. It took some lobbying before the Poles were formed into the RAF (Royal Air Force) 303 squadron. The result of this was dozens of German bombers and fighters getting turned into scrap metal.

Keep it going Sabaton and keep telling those untold stories. P.S.
