RWANDA: REPORT FROM KIGALI CENTRAL PRISON

As the first Roman Catholic bishop ever to stand trial on charges of genocide pleads innocent in a Rwandan courtroom, APTN reports from Kigali Central Prison where thousands of prisoners make do in cramped conditions.
Many have been imprisoned for their part in the 1994 mass murder of Rwanda's Tutsis.
Kigali Central Prison was built to hold 2,000 prisoners.
It currently houses some 70,000 inmates.
Prisoners share cramped living and sleeping quarters with thousands of others.
The majority of prisoners are being held on charges relating to the massacre of Rwanda's Tutsi population in 1994.
At least 500,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed.
As in prisons all over the world, some inmates protest their innocence.

"How many people did you kill, they (journalists) don't ask? How many people did you save? And this is the first time in history that I see journalists teaming up with the government. The government that is keeping people, keeping its citizens behind bars for five years already."

Every Friday the prison guards read out the names of those eligible for family visits.
The prisoners rely on their families for food and provisions.
Wives and children are held back by prison guards armed with sticks until they are ready to receive the prisoners.
Men snatch a quick handshake with their wives before the guards separate them.
The death of Rwanda's Hutu president on April 6, 1994, triggered a killing frenzy that had been planned months in advance.
Aided by the army, Hutu militias attacked Tutsis with guns, grenades, studded clubs and machetes.
They rallied ordinary Hutus, in some cases with threats of death, to join them in the slaughter.

"I am 56 years old. My husband died. I was hiding six Tutsi children and the Interhamwe came and threatened to kill me if I didn't kill the children. So I clubbed them to death."

After the prisoners get their supplies, guards check bags and baskets and the prisoners return to their cramped existence.
The Interior Minister acknowledges that over one hundred thousand Rwandan citizens are currently being held in prison.

"Now we have got about, more than 120,000 people in prison and most of them are guilty of genocide so the justice is trying to do it's best to see that everybody is coming and being tried and if he's found guilty of course he'll be found guilty according to the law and if he's found not guilty he'll be released and a number of them of course have been released."

Some of the prison's inmates are released on medical grounds.
They are too sick and weak to remain inside.
But the majority face an indefinite time in prison and await an uncertain future if they're ever released.

You can watch the Rusesabagina trial with all its solicitude from A to Z, right on your screen anytime in the comfort of your very own home. As can anybody on the planet. That doesn’t stop Western media for hollering “Unfair!” It’s a reflex with them.

To normal prisoners this could have made me feel sympathy BUT to these ooh God that is even good place for them!put them in darkest places so they taste how it feels

la regulation et la gestion des comportements sont TOUJOURS delicat à cerner et là on a des gens qui aiment, et sont légèrement fouettés, pour les punir encore et encore de leurs méfaits, de toute facon s il y a bien un peuple qui est plus naturel que les autres c est bien les noirs et je les kiffs pour ca ....par contre ils (plutôt elles) sont loins de faire parti de mes préférences hereditaire bien que certaines filles.. ;)) mais je les kiffs quand meme en general des que j aperçois chez eux la simplicité que j aime également arboré de mon être, oui j aime pas trop me compliquer la tache j ai compris que cela était source de bcp de maux pour un moindre rendu ;)donc c est un message de PAIX comme la plupart de mes messages, sinon c est des coups de gueules, et je dis bravo et en meme temps dommage car bien des choses sont importantes au niveau CARCERALE le fait de laisser une personne seule au bord de l'eau ....c est bon ca ................le fait de donner emotionnelement et de reprendre (comme à 3.00mn ici ou comme on reprend la bouffe à un toutou comme pour le rendre plus docile) ....pis y a le fait de travailler et d accomplir des choses .....le chapitre, carcéral, est la bebete noir de l humanité actuelle .....il parait que si tout le monde sur terre pendant 40 jours ne pense jamais au meurtre, ben y en aurait plus! un rendu de la théorie de JEAN PIERRE GARNIER MALLET et en plus ....si tout le monde s interressait à monsieur GRABOVOI et bien tout le monde aurait rapidement la solution à tout leur probleme et nous devrions ainsi arriver à quelques chose de beaucoup FLUIDE quelques chose de censé de RESPECTUEUX, de PARTAGE, et de ..... ... confiance ...mouai pour ma part je me reserve la plus grosse part de méfiance possible pour moi ;) aller bon courage les mauvais et bon courage les bons de toute facon il y a un genre de famille à respecter (une gentille famille, pas les gangs and co) et ceux qui n en veulent pas savent, qu ils doivent partir, helas dans cet elan là, seul leur bravoure et leur nature feront le reste, il n y aura pas de base de respect pour ceux qui se veulent seul ou bien elle sera ponctuelle, bon des bases il y en a d autres mais le respect est assez simpatoche quand meme , parce que la crainte, le pognon, la manipulation and co c est tot ou tard dur de rendu ;)
