ZAIRE: RWANDAN REFUGEES FEAR REPRISALS FOR 1994 GENOCIDE

50-thousand Rwandan refugees, trapped in a camp in eastern Zaire, say they are unwilling to return home because they fear reprisals for the 1994 genocide.
Many refugees at the camp - in the town of Kisese - have already died of malnutrition and related diseases.
In the capital Kinshasa, Zairian President Mobutu Sese Seko has indicated for the first time Saturday that he would be willing to meet rebel leader Laurent Kabila face to face.
The meeting has been one of the key demands of Kabila's rebels, who have captured nearly half of the country in their seven-month push to overthrow Mobutu.
This refugee camp in Kisese is known as Camp 29 because it is 29 kilometres (20 miles) from the Zairian city of Kisangani.
The camp was set up by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and various non-government organisations last Sunday.
It is now home to about 50-thousand Rwandan Hutu refugees.
The camp is surrounded by rebel-held territory and so the refugees are virtually trapped, although many still believe they are better off where they are.
The Rwandan Hutus fled to Goma in eastern Zaire following the 1994 genocide in their country.
They are unwilling to return home because they fear reprisals.
From Goma, they walked over 1-thousand kilometres (650 miles) through dense jungle to reach Tingi Tingi refugee camp.
The refugees were eventually forced out of Tingi Tingi by the Zairian rebels, led by Laurent Kabila.
They then walked another 450 kilometres (300 miles) to reach Camp 29.
Now most of the refugees are suffering from a severe lack of food.

In the camp's hospital there are about 250 patients, with practically all of them suffering from malnutrition or a disease resulting from malnutrition.
Many have already died of malaria and diarrhoea.
Cholera is also on the increase, although it has not yet reached epidemic proportions.
One Medicins Sans Frontieres worker at the camp said many were alone and dying.

Refugees are dying all the time here.
They dig their own makeshift graves to bury the dead, including children.

Most of their men in those refugee camps massacred tutsi's in 1994 ,when RPA took the country,their flee with their families because their were afraid that their will take revenge on them
The Hutus killed 800,000 Tusi in Ruwanda before they escaped to Zaire.

@@GlobalSouthObserver that number included moderate Hutus who refused to kill their Tutsi neighbors and the innocent Twa. One person killed is horrible much less over 500,000🥺
God even if some of them was murdered Tutsi in Rwanda, but this also is Big issues, they starved somuch, never again please
