Rush- YYZ Reaction

If Geddy Lee is underrated, it's not by anyone who's ever heard him play.

Perzackly. LOL! It's not as if there's much musical comprehension required for realizing how much ass he kicks; just listen to him...

My thoughts exactly, well put. People who know Rush know Geddy's ability. Since she's new to Rush, I'm guessing most of the individual member praise she's seen in the comment sections have been for Neil - so the bass player is therefore 'underrated' by comparison, hehe.

Geddy once joked during their synthesizer period (late 70s to early 90s) that he was singing and had all four limbs engaged playing Bass Guitar and working the pedals on the keyboards. And that if it were possible, he'd have that 5th limb doing something useful too. :D

Alex Lifeson is the most underrated member of this band. He is a world class musician. If he had been with any other band. He would be a household name. It's not that Alex lacks talent. Just Neil and Getty got so much.
Bass player Geddy Lee is definitely NOT underrated. He's won tons of bass player awards and has been a huge influence on many next generation bass players.

This was the song that allowed me to completely understand their music. I had always liked them but this song made me realize the genius of Rush. Rush are the masters of transition. Incredible transition is displayed in all their songs, but this song, without lyrics displays their transitional skills perfectly

I was 16 years old I went to Sam The Record Man and bought the album Moving Pictures a brand new release by RUSH. I had never heard any of the songs yet but had all of the other albums by RUSH. Tom Sawyer blasted out and I was immediately over whelmed every song after that was a masterpiece. I couldn’t stop playing it and then my mother came home and told me to turn it down.

We need more Classic RUSH on this Channel.
This is the first time I've heard this song and I love it!!!
Everyone taking exception to the "Geddy is underrated line", please, let's just focus on a Rush fan in the making, experiencing their outstanding music for the first time, and being able to appreciate their music so quickly with little prior knowledge of any history or accolades they have garnered over the years. @@MrAitraining - Overdone?... I don't remember her doing it yet, and when the channel is her "Reactions" why would an otherwise popular version of a video hold any less merit when it's about the viewer's initial response? "Overdone" songs (on these channels) are done for a reason. Going into a band's "Best", most technical, or deepest efforts might not get a response from someone who hasn't processed the general feel of the group, and the LIVE version (in this case) definitely drives home the musicianship of THREE guys, unlike the edited Tom Sawyer "Studio Live" video featuring multiple clones of the band members. I don't think she realized what (or who) she was actually witnessing there.

Rush= 3 fantastic musicians. Masters of their instruments. Yes more please"working man", "subdivisions","2112","freewill","spirit of radio" so many great songs.☮️
All three are genuine masters at their craft. There will never be another band like Rush.
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto, their hometown. The inspiration for this song is the feeling of excitement they would feel when seeing the YYZ tags on their luggage at the end of a tour. It would give them a happy feeling knowing they were going home.
"Video game star trek galactical warfare with a rock music soundtrack." I love your descriptions.
It's basically lead guitar,, lead bass, and lead drums. Three of the best at their instruments, second to none.
You MUST watch this live in Rio! It's an absolute MUST! You will LOVE it!
Geddy is a machine. Saw Rush live twice and he sings, plays bass, the Moog foot pedals and keyboard. Simultaneously!
Rush is amazing. I saw them play YYZ in concert many times. It never gets old. It’s three masters of music. I enjoyed your reaction!
Exhaustingly amazing....I love your reactions. I can tell you are a musician, because you are really working your ears and tuning in to every detail, totally open and receptive to what each instrument is doing, it's really refreshing to watch..and Rush is THAT band...the one made for air-drumming, air-guitar, air-bass. Awesome!!
Working Man on the first album is a hard rock in your face sledge hammer. A must listen if you want to know Rush. Anthem would be another great listen. You Rock!

Toronto's (YYZ) Rush transitions are phenomenal. Great song and love the epic ending to it. A creative bomb and just amazing. Amazing technical prowess and Canada's greatest band ever.
I love when ya hear your lil guy laughing in the background. Makes you not just an L.A whatever dude. Shows your real ,and I appreciate that
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS
RIP Neil Peart - The man who made me a drummer. And Geddy Lee.....no words
LIME LIGHT
I was fortunate to see them live many years ago.. Three fabulously talented musicians. Top notch...
So underrated when "YES" entered the Hall of Fame, they cheered that Geddy was bassing Roundabout.
Edgar Winter - Frankenstein (The live video *"Fankenstein . Edgar Winters . Group 1973"* is probably the most entertaining version)
Geddy Lee is one of my bass influences. I've only been playing bass 38 years. 😆
Yes! My favorite RUSH song. Watching now.
Alex Lifeson is on Trailer Park Boys doing "closer to the heart". Pretty cool guy. And he did a tune with Bubbles and the shitrockers. Great guitarist.

Your reactions are priceless. Always good to see a young one appreciate music I grew up with, and found compelling to the point where I had to listened to it over and over again. Just look up Neil Peart and watch some of his drum solos over the years. The guy is, as my drum teacher used to say, "a monster." 😊
I was lucky to see them live about 20 yrs ago.. awesome performance live...
Working Man 🤘🤘🤘
Geddy Lee is NOT underrated. ALEX LIFESON is underrated. If he were in any other band he'd be a legend. In Rush, he's the Third Tenor.

Can't get much more highly-rated than Geddy Lee. Definitely one of the greatest, and my inspiration for becoming a bassist.
This is me when I was first listening to them. Still holds up.
Rush....Spirit of radio
Scribe Believe me that they are awesome live! Rush rocked this song during the Time Machine tour in West Palm Beach. But Rock in Rio, Brazilian audience gotten into this song. Rush is awesome in live concerts!
ok there is a story behind this song. The band is in flight and approaching Pearson International Airport Toronto, Ontario Canada the bands home town. They all have cockpit headsets on and are conversing with the pilot and as they approach the airport they hear this unique sound over the radio. They immediately thought it was a cool sound and asked the pilot what that sound was. The pilot explained that all airports have call letters and its sending us a message in Morse code that we are approaching Pearson International airport. They decided right then to make a song using that sound thus the very beginning of the song Alex is recreating the Morse code for the airport on his guitar. The call letters for the Toronto airport is YYZ. Obviously the song is an instrumental unless of course you are from Rio de Janeiro Brazil were those crazy kids at that concert were singing along with the song. (yyz live in rio).
That is Neil Peart. Pure talent, no trap programmed and press play. Pure talent.

Has been one of my favorite songs for almost 30 years. I always play this tune first in a new car. 🏁👍😘
So glad to see that you found the music performed by Rush, before the death of drummer Neil Peart on January 7th of 2020. Your reaction that I see here is what I feel every time I listen to the song the first time and every time since this album came out 40 years ago was it? I'm so glad to know that I have so much more in common with you than the things that society would pinpoint about the differences between us.
Rush is the band that everyone should listen to if they really want to be a well rounded musician...
Saw them 10 Times in Montreal! What You need to know is that Rush is a live band,That’s what music is all about!Where everything make sens!😃
I'm so happy that you get Rush.
MORE RUSH!!
Heavy improvisational jazz influences in this one.
LOL!!! Yes, all our minds were blown when we heard it the first time, too. And to see them play it live multiple times - I’m a lucky man 👍🏻😎. The Spirit of Radio - gets my vote for next. Then maybe something older and longer - Xanadu - Live 1981 - would be my suggestion.
It's amazing it's only 3 guys, truly master musicians rush rocks!!!!!
Cash, love Rush!! Welcome to the rabbit hole! Rush has soooo many great songs, your ears will love their music! I think the next classic song you should rock to is - “2112” it’s epic!! Also, another GREAT rock band you should dive into is.. Pantera! You need to start off with their live performance from 1991 tour. The song, “Domination” Rock on!!!
Rush (only 3 guys) plays this exactly the same Live. When Geddy is focusing on bass, he plays keyboard and synth notes using foot pedals. When he is focusing on keyboard, he plays simple bass lines using foot pedals.
I like how much you enjoy Rush!!!
Ty for reacting to my favorite band ScribeCash!
I'm amazed that you of many KZread channels , have been giving your response or take on songs and , yes comedy. I'd like to just thank you for not being narrow minded , as some folks are. Keep on what your doing. My genre of music is most all , but up to 2010.
Great. You should react to "Rush in Rio" version of this song. The crowd is insane. "Whow do your hands move that fast? " it's Neil Peart!
The absolute best part are the facial expressions at the beginning. Funny. I think most of us did that when this first dropped.
Rush! One of the top 3 all time bands
This is three guys. 3. What's amazing is that they can reproduce studio version live. Both Alex the guitarist and Geddy the bass player, play synthesizer parts with their feet on synthesizer pedals on the floor so they can reproduce the music Live. One of the best examples is the live version of Xanadu, exit stage left. You would think there is no way three guys could perform this life and be true to the studio version
Another bit you might find interesting is the seed of what started this song. Being that they flew around a lot they got to hear the Morse code identifier for their home airport TACAN signal and they loved the beat that it made and that is where it all began. More aeronautical geekiness the YYZ name isn't accidental either but the three letter identifier for that station. :)
You have to hear YYZ live in Rio! It's a must! Great reaction!
Well done..... you identified the significant parts of the song.... Watch YYZ in RIO. 80,000 people jumping in rhythm is something to watch
Geddy Lee is the GOAT when it comes to rock bass players. Never underrated.
Many of your questions can be answered by just watching yyz Live in Rio- the audience actually sings along with this instrumental! btw there are only 3 musicians in this band... can you say power trio?
This song is fire and I could tell by your reaction you feel it
This song is legendary!!!!
i remember learning guitar as a teenager, then finally learning how to play with other musicians. this song was the pinnacle!! it was the ultimate example of endless possibilities. check out la villa strangiato from the live album exit stage left.
Rush is the one band where, if you have the option, always watch/listen to the live versions of their songs! 3 people making music on stage, that sounds as good or better, than their studio version.
Great Live Band. Saw Every Tour From Hemispheres To Roll The Bones.
