@o o Most of all, you must be interested in music to do interesting reactions. I guess you're thinking of reality tv, but that's a whole different story. They have a big production team and a lot of money to dramatize it. How do people know you're not fake, just another bitter troll?

Musicians though are in a particular spot of being able to sell art to the masses with a special freedom of expression. There may be the look of artistic character, of noble intention, but often it's easier for a group to create some false profundity, fake depth if you will. Selling out in their eyes seems to be compromising one's morals for something fleeting like money.

It sums a lot of stars up, not all but many.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about this song is that it was a hit that got radio play, even though the lyrics are about how fundamentally corrupt radio is.

Not a magical drumset, but a magical drummer, Mr. Neil Peart, aka the Professor. Great tune.
still remember the feeling of hearing this open so so so many Rush Concerts GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME
This is a tribute to "Radio" which is something us older folks grew up on. It was really a magical thing for us.
They ALWAYS know how to play their instruments!! Their transitions are epic. Plus they are just really really nice guys!
"2112" or "La Villa Strangiato" by Rush
The whole album kicks ass ! Masterpiece.
Rip Neil Peart. An amazing drummer that will be missed. Thanks for the music!
You literally had me laughing out loud. "Ol' boy got a magic drum set" too funny. Well, I know what I'm going to listen to on the way home from work today. Thanks Scribe! Love your channel. Keep up the great work!
Yeah! Well done! This song introduce to Power Trio, back in 1982, and since then this band became the soundtrack of my life. "This is for sure a morning song" Totally agree!
I love watching people discover RUSH for the first time. The three greatest musicians on their respective instruments in musical history IMHO.
I feel it is so important for this music to live on and be appreciated by generation after generation. There will never be the level of innovation and raw musical talent from musicians from the 60s, 70s and 80s ever again.
Rush was the first band my wife and I saw together on a date in Lakeland Florida on September 20, 1980. That was 40 years ago and we're still together, still rocking and Rush's music still kicks ass!
I love the way you FEEL the music, it's beautiful.
This is helping me heal. Thank you.

I just love seeing first reactions to Rush..I smile knowing what is coming up.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your face, your moves and your feel for this. You just speak to me when you move and you know good music! I also love Rush! You are just sooo much fun to watch!! I feel your every move!!
Your reactions are awesome. Never saw anyone so happy jammin' to Rush as you were right before the 'reggae' transition.
The dancer slows her frantic pace In pain and desperation Her aching limbs and downcast face Aglow with perspiration Stiff as wire, her lungs on fire With just the briefest pause The flooding through her memory The echoes of old applause She limps across the floor And closes her bedroom door The writer stares with glassy eyes Defies the empty page His beard is white, his face is lined And streaked with tears of rage Thirty years ago, how the words would flow With passion and precision But now his mind is dark and dulled By sickness and indecision And he stares out the kitchen door Where the sun will rise no more
This is how everybody reacts the first time they hear Rush! The goats of classic rock!!
"One likes to believe in the freedom of music, but glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity." Such a powerful lyric, one of my favorites by Mr. Peart. That man drops little bombs like these in many Rush songs. Cheers!
Magical drum set, that's the greatest drummer to ever pick up a pair of sticks R.I.P Neil!
Great reaction. Love your energy and enthusiasm! Rest in Peace, Neil Peart.
It’s great that you give props to the transitions. Frequent time signature changes, complex instrumental layering, and poetic lyrics are all hallmarks of progressive rock. It was bands like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Rush, etc. that provided me with what became my favorite genre of rock music.
RIP to your favorite drummer's favorite drummer
Rush has roped Scribe into being another big fan. Way to go Scribe!!! Glad you could join us Rush heads. There is soooo much more to discover about Rush. Thanks for this video.
She is proof positive that it IS possible to dance to Rush's music! Jam it up girl!
This song is a tribute to the Toronto radio station CFNY 102.1 back in 1980 when it was cool and embodied “The Spirit of [FM] Radio”, but became a an anthem to all rebel radio that played new experimental rock and pop music.
Celtic, rock, folk, reggae, etc. Welcome to the world of Rush.
Did you know Neil the drummer wrote the lyrics of most of the songs>?

Ahhh, another juicy cut of Classic, Vintage 70's - 80's RUSH.
Great reaction! Love your enthusiasm. Rush were always pushing, looking for new sounds, and grooves. In late 1979, the Police (band) were getting huge, and they had a reggae'ish sound. The Police had excellent musicians (Sting for one), but drummer Stuart Copeland was someone who Rush's drummer was very impressed with. Check out the Police some time, they are excellent.

Give her a break guys, she is right, it is "like one song". Technical specifics are interesting to musicians. To listeners, her description was accurate enough.
I’m 17 and gonna have to replace my steering wheel soon every time I hear this song on the radio. I’ve been listening to them and all the other classic rock guys on the radio for a few years now.
This a song slamming the radio business Rush was so technically perfect in their sound they didn’t really seem like they were really playing the instruments....until I saw them live and they sounded just as clear ROCK GREATNESS
You’ve got it!!!! You cannot listen to Rush without air drumming. Love it!!!
The reggae bit was inspired by Rush's appreciation for another 3-piece rock group, THE POLICE, which had a number of tunes with a reggae beat.

(7:31) The transitions in The Spirit of Radio are simulating the changing of radio stations on an analog radio dial. The transition marked at this junction is rather cleverly done. If you turned the tuning dial quickly, then many radio stations would broadcast like a blur to your ears.
That big transition to the reggae and big riff at the end of the song was them imitating cruising around the dial for some music.
Rush - natural science
