Chorus:
It's like the A the B to the C
It's easier than (1, 2, 3)
(He's Jam Master Jay, I'm D.M.C.)
So hit it Run!
It's time for we to cease (So what?)
So rhymers speak your peace
Why? Cause you can't touch (Jam Master Jay)
Cause he's number (1, 2, 3, 4, hit it)
(Let's dance) to the rhythm, the rhyme, the cold flow
Chance that I gave em is done I told yo
For these routines like 1983
It's just a little reminder
So those suckas is kinder
A little message from (Run-D.M.C.)

According to the RUN DMC biography, this record was a response to the changing of the guard in hip hop. When Run DMC blew, hip hop was still in its embryonic, "Hotel Motel Holiday Inn" stage, so they rhymed slow and simple. But between 86-88, MC's like Rakim, KRS, Ultramagnetic, etc..jumped on the scene with sophisticated rhyme patterns and lyrics, that made Run look ancient over night. This is Run DMC's attempt to tell the hip hop nation that they could keep up with Hip hop's advancement.

The 80's were a great time in hip-hop as it was evolving but the best era in hip hop was the 90's😁👍 From the 2000's until today it has turned into 🗑️😡👎 These new school artists are straight 🗑️ with a few exceptions. The exceptions are the ones who came from the 90's that are still around and some from the 80's too. The ones that aren't from the 80's or 90's are straight 🗑️😡👎 They all sound the same and their beats sound the same😡👎

BTW, I'm a female and alot of my friends who are all on their grown and in their late 30's to mid-40's, and professionals and some even grandparents STILL love old school hip hop because of the fun we were having when these groups were out. Nothinging will ever compare to growing up as a teen in the 80's (and maybe early 90's)!

sonically, this was easily their best song (IMO) next to Run's House and Down with the King. The Nautilus sample was really ahead of its time, and still sounds fresh. Lyrically, they punched up their rhymes a lot in response to the changing world of hip hop. They were trying to keep up with the Rakim's and Public Enemy's who had dropped following the release of their last album.

I once thought so then I heard Pop Smoke's stuff. It's some futuristic, hard shii&8. And, like the 80s and 90s, they moved more like grown men, although young. Pop Smoke stuff was evolving Hip Hop, FINALLY, in my opinion. It made this stuff sound old (I still like Run DMC, this was my favorite album). I couldn't get with the other stuff too much, didn't feel passionate and the mixing seemed off as well, especially with a lot of Drill music. Pop Smoke's work was well produced, well mixed and he rode those rhythms well.

One of the most infamous examples of sampling. That iconic sound consisting of barely a second of a long abstract, jazz piece with nothing in common between the two otherwise. A spark of genius to take such a small clip and turn it into one of the biggest hits. Later around this time "sampling" became a controversy with memorable songs like Vanilla Ice. Old clip of Tom Petty commiserating about sampling being plagiarism. Such controversy has long since been dead, but Run DMC's Beats To The Rhyme is a great classic with an interesting music history.
