Ruger American Rimfire Rifle Review

Overall the Ruger American Rimfire Rifle is of excellent quality and I highly recommend it. Magazine UPDATE! Ruger sent me a new 10 round magazine and it works perfectly fine. SO, I guess I received a faulty magazine, however Ruger's customer support was outstanding!

I know this video is 3 1/2 years old, but there are 3 things you should know. One is about magazines. All of the BX-1 ten round magazines are not made from the same mold and some of them will be slightly different by a ten thousandth of an inch or so. Most of the time this won't make any difference, but sometime (as you found out) it will make a difference, depending on what kind of stock you have and how tight the mag well is. The clear magazines are also slightly larger than the black ones. Two, it's really easy to get a lighter trigger pull. If you remove the trigger return spring, which is really simple, just a couple of e-clips and it's out, and replace it with a lighter spring. It will let you adjust the pull weight don't to about a pound. I've heard that some guys just take the trigger return spring out altogether, and it still works. I put the spring from a ball point pen in mine, and it's adjusted to 2 pounds. Last but not least, Three, if you didn't torque the two attaching screws to the right torque, that's why your rifle isn't grouping well. Look in the owner's manual, and you'll see that there is a lot of difference between the torque that the front and rear attaching screws need, and there is also a right and wrong sequence to tighten them. If you're not following that exactly, your rifle won't shoot up to its full potential. I have a Ruger American Rimfire that will shoot one hole five round groups at 25 yards with two or three different kinds of ammo. And less than an inch at 50 yards. It all depends on how you set it up and whether you follow the directions in the owner's manual. You're right about using standard velocity (or subsonic, if you want to call it that) ammo. The rifle shoots considerably better with standard velocity ammo than with high velocity. That's about all I've got. You've got a good rifle.

Spend hundreds of dollars on a rifle and then put a ballpoint pen spring in the trigger🤣 not safe, $20 gets you a reliable 2lb pull from m-carbo or others, don’t cut links as they are short stiff springs. Safety first. Shims help for the trigger, safety and maybe the trigger housing.

Great video. Lots of detail. Thanks. I just bought this exact model to replace a Ruger Precision 22lr that I had for a couple of years. Could never get comfortable shooting it. I like this style rifle much more. I haven’t even shot mine yet, but assume it will be good, as it’s a Ruger. Always been a Ruger fan.

My RAR 18" barrel transformation began: factory bolt handle gone - Anarchy Outdoors long handle installed; factory trigger, gone - Timney Trigger set @ 1.75 pounds; scope base, gone - Anarchy Outdoors base bubble level installed. Vortex PST FFP/MOA 5-25x EBR-7c reticle. For a cheap 22-caliber rifle, it is a shooter! Norma Tac-22 100 yards group five rounds after seasoning size: 4 rounds (.268", 5 rounds group .688"). This type of shooting is too stressful! I am 70.

I bought mine about 3 years ago. The accuracy wasn't up to my standards but they said it was within their tolerance so they wouldn't authorize return for service. So I recrowned the barrel myself. After shooting it quite a bit I am getting attached to it. Now it is almost as accurate as my Savage MK ii f or my Marlin Model 60.

Just got the 30-06 yesterday and my bolt was the same so today I took 1500 paper and polished on it some. It didn’t take long to make some improvements but it is still lacking. Will get a .22lr this week and will do the same thing.

Great review and overview of the rifle. Wondering what is the objective size on your 2x12 Hawke scope. Nice that the 1” low rise mounts gave it just the right clearance.

If you still have this rifle and the original magazine I seen a video where a gentleman tightened. The screw on on the magazine itself and it fixed his problem with the original magazine. I know. This video is old, but I still like to watch them.

Good video and review. Is the stainless steel worth the extra money? Cabelas has the blued version for around 349.99 with open sights and the stainless for 379.99 without the open sights.

I think for an extra $30 it is well worth it. SST is so easy to maintain but it all comes down to your personal preference!

I got the blued version with the varmint barrel (8334) and when I adjusted the trigger I gave the action and underside of the barrel a shot of BC Barricade before reassembly. That gives it a high degree of protection from corrosion.

Definitely could use the 10-22, it has a threaded barrel also but it isn't as quiet because it is semi auto. I bought it with the intent of pest control but honestly, I haven't had any pests lately and I have a precharged pneumatic .22 air rifle (Benjamin Marauder) that does a great job so....at this point I just plink around with the Ruger American LOL!

If you are not familiar with firearm safety, you can find hundreds of videos on KZread about the subject. I suggest doing a search. You can also download the manual for this rifle which also has all of the safe handling instructions (of which I follow off camera). In addition, if you actually purchase this rifle new, it comes with said manual. This is a rifle review video...not a safety training video.
