Always happy to watch your videos. I like the real world conditions, I am north of you in Canada. So far my go to is. CCI standard velocity for practice and SK match for the shoots we do up here (similar to a nrl22) .

Always nice to hear from our brothers up north! You are right you just can't bear CCI standard velocity. Was just out shooting a few minutes ago in the super heavy snow and it was keeping right around an inch at 90 with CCI standard velocity. Thanks for watching as always

That CCI Blazer is my go to plinking fodder. Cheap and accurate enough plus it runs reliably through all my rimfires. I always have at least a 5000 round box in inventory.

A cZ WoUlD ShOot bETter!!! A comparison to Johnny’s reloading bench is quite a compliment . You just need to say “Hey Alrite!!” when showing off good groups. Good video and I’m glad you found some ammo that rifle likes!

Corey D I know a lot of ppl who will only keep a 22 if it shoots standard velocity well. Not a bad rule honestly. The Aguila standard velocity has always shot well for me along with cci standard velocity.

I'm trying to get a 100 yard video for the rest of them but it's always so windy it's pointless

now a days thats how you have to do it. it's too expensive to buy all at once. but if you do just buy it in boxes of 50 you so won't be stuck with a bunch of stuff it shoots like crap.

Glad to see you got the same results with CCI Velocitor that I get. Set up at 50 yards and thought I had a bad scope or something because my groups were like 2"+. Then put in some Fed Auto Match Target ammo and the same rifle was shooting less than an inch. Very disappointing results for the amount they charge for the velocitors.

I shot CCI Velocitors out of a BSA Armatic on a 100yard zero, killed many foxes! Always regretted selling it!

Corey: I always your reviews. Have you tried Norma Match ,the white box. They shoot as well in my CZ 476 match as most of the Eley grades I have shot . They cost a lot less and their rim thickness and weights are quite uniform.

yea i have tried it, doesn't shoot well for me.

I've watched both parts of this ammo test and from what I'm seeing this rifle performs no different, (which I expected), than the American Rimfire Target I had. I torqued tested it, tried a world of different eley, lapua, sk and some bulk stuff, as well as had multiple shooters and the best the gun would ever do was average .75" at 50yds. Ended up selling it and buying a 10/22 Custom Shop that has proved to be quite a bit more accurate. I wish Ruger would have released this with an 18" barrel and a Bentz chamber, would have helped.

yea definitely should perform a little better for the money they charge for it.

Looking to put together a LRP .22lr rifle. The ones in the price range I can afford are Ruger American Long-Range , Ruger Precision Rimfire, Tikka 1X and CZ Pro Varmint. Scopes? So far I’ve looked at Arken and Bushnell Match Pro. I see you have a Vortex in this video. What’s your preference on the rifles I listed, and any better ones not listed in that price range? I’ll mostly be shooting at 50 and 100 yards, but may get into some longer ranges at some point.

definitely go with the tikka and either a strike eagle or an arken. arket punches way above its weight price wise. just causal browsing i've seen that most tikkas are in stock.

Like your video format...and your choice of rifles. I must have gotten lucky with my RPR it has never had a FTE. It hated the 15 round magazine it came with and had plenty of FTF, but switching to the 10 round solved that. I have found in my custom 10/22 and RPR that if I sort my ammo by weight at 100+ yard I get better groups. Especially at 200 yards in long range silhouette. Might be worth a try for you. I sorted Eley Club the other day and found 1.4 grain difference between rounds in the same box.

i'd say 1 was the bergara, 2 savage b22. could have been the rimx/proof but it was effed up.

Kind of off topic, but curious if you have ever tried hand loading .22LR? I know you can’t use it in 22NRL matches, but if you are going for a personal best at distance I don’t see much as an alternative.

i have not because the time it takes to hand load rounds wouldn't be worth the small gain in accuracy to me. take 5 hours to load 200 when you can go out and shoot that amount in about 20 minutes.

Will you be trying to get your hands on the Bergara B-14R? It claims to be completely compatible with Remington 700 stocks/triggers/bases and supposed to be very accurate out of the box. Of course it is like double the price of this Ruger though lol.

it's a good looking gun for sure just doesn't shoot all that well. sk long range has been very ok for me out of a few different rifles. i'm getting ready to go test probably today i have a box of it. going to see how my vudoo likes it.

It is my second time watching your video, I still haven't decided what to put money down for a 22-cartridge rifle. I'm not in a rush.

i waited and waited to find the b14r but they aren't for sale yet, at least the last time i checked. this is a nice gun but i would suggest something better for the money. buy a tikka t1x mtr.

Corey lots of work goes into your videos and we appreciate the info. I do notice a bias against the price of the $8 a box ammo. I understand if you don't want to pay that much and I guess you do not shoot matches. In NRL22 cleaning a KYL rack at 45 yards $8 a box is a good price point to constantly hit the 1/4 inch on the rack. Going through your targets it looks like the top 3 were 1) Eley Club 2) SK RM 3) Eley Force.

yea out of all my 22s eley has consistently been the best if not second best. i would love to shoot in actual matches but there isn't any close to me so i normally set up the 22nrl COF for me and my friends we do it for fun.

Hey I’m big in to rim fire too. I don’t know if you shoot 17hmr or wsm but if you want tight groups. That’s what I like. Would like to see you do some more hmr stuff.

i've had several 17s over the years and i love shooting them for sure. my only complaint about 17 is there is only a few types of ammo. if your rifle doesn't shoot the few offerings well then you're kinda screwed.

My experience with Thunderbolt is the same as yours. Velocitor as well. I do really like CCI SGB ammo and have had good results with Blaser in the 50 round boxes, but not so much the bulk cartons.

It's also been my experience that some lots of ammo shot better than other lots from the same manufacturer. Some manufacturers are more consistent than others. Btw, thanks for the video!

@@edjett2631 oh no doubt thats why i said MOST. eley force has shot really well for me out of a few guns. my b14r carbon version shot cci velocitor pretty well. Federal white box has always been a go to super sonic ammo for me

When groups open that much, take a cleaning rod to the range with you and see if a cleaning will improve how it shoots. I have seen it happen with several guns that the fouling of the bore gets weird and sometimes leading from a bad round or two causes poor performance. The rifle obviously shoots well but it doesn't hurt to experiment with the cleaning. I ran into a problem where I was giving the bore a light coat of kroil before putting the guns away. I always run a dry patch before taking the guns out. The accuracy fell off on all of them and I noticed the fouling was very hard and would catch patches more than usual. It felt crusty. Somehow the slight trace of kroil in the metal would burn off leaving carbon. I stopped doing that and went back to a light coating of rem oil and everything went back to normal. Another time I had a batch of ammo that caused leading. When I ran patches they came out with visible pieces of lead on them. Several of my rimfires did the same thing with that ammo. I always take a cleaning rod with me now and those times when the groups open for no apparent reason are soon remedied with a light cleaning on the spot. I used to wonder it the rifle was damaged or the scope was giving out at times but cleaning always brings it back. The rule of firing several hundred rounds before cleaning is BS. You might only get a good group or two, or maybe no good groups if something causes a malady in the fouling. You may be able to fire several hundred rounds with no problem but make a habit of taking the cleaning rod with you.

cleaning seems to be a sensitive subject for people on youtube regarding 22. i'm either cleaning TOO much or not enough. some people get super upset about it if you can believe that LOL

@@coreyd1474 There is no real hard and fast rule to cleaning. The big boys clean frequently. I would say do what you need to. If you want to see if fouling is causing the problems clean the barrel and see if it resolves. Don't worry if you only have a small round count downrange as sometimes the barrel will foul with some ammo quickly with negative effect. Sometimes you will shoot hundreds between cleanings and sometimes less than a half a box. Just experiment and don't worry about what others think.

@@Strutingeagle i only clean when i start to notice a significant accuracy loss. sometimes its a bore snake or depending how many rounds an actual brush. this last cleaning the barrel probably had 1.5-2k rounds before it started throwing flyers.

What range do you shoot at? I haven’t shot my rifles due to ranges are closed.

earlier today I bought 200 bricks of Eley Force for $50 a brick (that's $5 per box of 50). they are the very shiny brass casings. I understand they're best for semi automatics rather than bolt action rifles. for my matches, I use either the Eley Match or the Lapua Center X, both run just under $15 per box of 50. I HAVE heard, however, that some people are paying over $20 a box for the latter two.

i doubt it would make much of a difference for this as far as accuracy goes.

I achieved the exact same results with my LRT (which I've now sold). At first is shot over the place @ 50 yds no matter what ammo I used, but it seemed to really like CCI 38gr Blazer, like yours. The up side, it's an attractive looking rifle and it feels great in the hands, but I could never get it to shoot consistently. My recently acquired CZ 457 Pro Varmint 16"- same price range as the LRT - blows it out of the water. I also had the same extraction issues you mentioned with I was using waxy ammo in below freezing ambient. I had to pry the empty casings out with a screw driver. Maddening. I'm done with Ruger.

If it only shot as good as it looks/feels it would be a great rifle! when i'm out shooting matches nrl or prs the most popular rifle on the range is the ruger precision.

W.R.T. the RPR, I have a love/hate relationship with it - the front half of the rifle feels robust, but the back half feels so cheap. I've owned three and have sold them all. I find their actions to be sloppy at best. For 22's, call me a CZ snob - I don't mind.

​@@coreyd1474 I've owned a T3X, and my CZ 457's seem better. If I handed you either one of the 457's, you'd be pleasantly surprised. Mind you, I had to clean up the laser etched serial number on the bottom of the both bolts using a scotch pad and buffing wheel. But now they are smooth as butter.

its a timney trigger. they rate it at 4 lbs down to 1.5 but i adjusted it all the way down to see how low it would go (i like light triggers) and it came all the way down to 9 ounces lol. how it sits its set at 1 pound.

I have a standard ruger american rimfire. So far Blazer, CCI standard velocity, Federal Gold Medal MAtch, and SK long range have shot the best. The federal had a SD of 7.91 on 10rnds, and the SK was at 9.02 SD. the blazer I shot did slightly better with a SD of 10.45. My gun seems to like the standard velocity the best so far, still have more testing to do.

Just picked this up today for small game especially for some bushy tail. I think 50 yards will be effective with this rifle. Try federal game shock hp works great for me

i think this gun is a little too heavy/long to lug around the woods IMO.

Say Corey.... went back and reviewed your last 3 22 purchases. Still, the Tikka is your best shooter. This Ruger is very close to the Savage TR. I love your testing of all these different rifles. My RPRF does not like cold temps. This may be an issue with Ruger steel. Hope you work up to a Voodoo. I do think the term "long range" on a Ruger is a little gimmicky. My ole Ruger Sporter with the 22 inch bbl does as well as this one. I have grown to the bolt guns. Really like the stock on this one as I tend to carry one around the farm. The RPRF is heavey and slow to get positioned quickly. Anyway dude...keep um goin.

yea the tikka is still the best performer but gotta remember thats also a 500 dollar 22 in a 350 dollar chassis. if i remember right the rprf was rated at like 7 pounds or something and this is 8 so its slightly heavier. i think you're right about the cold temps, 22 is super susceptible to temperate but its still fun to get out and see how the different ammo performs. appreciation your feed back!

I think the reason you saw the "long range" ammo out perform its 50 yard result was because it is subsonic. Supers will be more accurate to 50, subs are usually more accurate at 100 plus. If you have the time I'd be really interested in seeing some testing on the various rifles you've reviewed with a selection of the best subsonic ammo at 1, 2, and 300 yards. I don't shoot matches, but I do shoot a ridiculous amount of gophers each summer and I always love to try and stretch out as far as possible. Lots of these 22lr ammo and gun reviews sell the rifle and ammo short since they stop at 50.

it seems to be the "my 15 year old so and so shoots thunderbolt well" crowd that always talks about it. I was super surprised how awful the eley subsonic was, they have some stuff that doesn't shoot well but that was terrible i would be surprised if any rifle shoots it well.

I shoot 38grain ELEY SUBS, amazing accuracy, from CZ 455 Two days ago headshot 96 yard rabbit, 85yard Fox in the same field! My friend shoots ELEY SPORT at 50yard range comp. one hole groups of 5 shots are common, CZ again, March Scope and Timney trigger! My trigger has the Yo Dave Spring mod! Trigger quality tightens groups!

what would be nice is if you took all the Eley and compared them then all the SK.s and compared them and all the CCI ( all 40gr. subsonic) and compared them then took say the top 8 of the different ammo and compared them within the similar MOE say .6 or .7 and less @ 50 yds. Don't forget to say what rifle and barrel length you are using as that will help shooters

yea i have a brick of it for my backup winter ammo in case i run out of SKRM. out of a box of 50 the sk biathlon had a SD of 8 which is very good for 22.

Test from Ruger American rimfire too same ammo. Best for me SK biathlon SK rifle match SK standard CCI stand vel. Eley club Bad result Eley sport CCI velocitor Lapua center x Test, to be continue. Have to much other ammo.

I had mine for less than a week, PROFOUNDLY disappointed in trigger, no front sling swivel stud for my harris bi-pod, am average size 5' 10" male and found stock ergonomics not quite right, tried the usual Eley, SK, Norma Target and Match ammo and found the accuracy/performance to be mediocre, traded it in at my local Gunshop for a CZ 547 MDT.

i dont really recall the factory trigger that well but know it was poor enough where i replaced it pretty quickly. decent gun for about 300 is all it should be worth.

Awe man why did it have to be the force that shoots good. Thats what my kidd loves. I better stock up before all you guys buy it out.

yea my rprf shot force well also. too bad its like 65/brick and not subsonic

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. Haven't shot it yet but, mounted a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40 with Leupold rings and installed a Timney 640R. Fuck. I thought it would be a better performer out of the box but, from what I've been reading, performance does improve with use. So I'm having some buyers remorse and thinking I should've opted for a Tikka T1x instead.

yea if you would have asked me before you bought i would have said tikka hands down. but you may get lucky and it be just fine.

@@coreyd1474 Well, my curiosity got the better of me and I took it out to the range this afternoon with some Wolf Match Extra, Eley Club and Geco Match (high velocity) and I'm forced to conclude that you're dead wrong about this rifle. Sorry. I'll be glad to upload/e-mail you pics of my 50 yard groups if you'd like to see them? It one-holes the Geco and Wolf. Shoots the Eley Club right at MOA. Shooting conditions today were probably a lot better than yours: Overcast, 60 degrees, 88% humidity, zero wind. One thing you were absolutely right about, though: it's a different rifle with the Timney trigger. I have my set @ 2 lbs. Considering it has been 25 years since I sat at a bench to shoot groups with a .22 rifle, I couldn't be happier.

@@kingschultz3770 i'm glad yours shoots well! but you can't say i'm "dead wrong" about MY rifle when you can see the results its shooting and they're not that good. 22s can be totally different from one to the other so it looks like ours are on opposite ends of the shooting spectrum

There's really no sense in testing the SK Long Range, CCI Velocitor or those marked for long range at 50 yds. In my experience they don't perform until they get out to 200+.. Thanks for the effort man.

i've had good luck with eley force and federal white box, the cheap stuff thats like 15 bucks for 330 or whatever. very good stuff.

Corey D One of my 10/22s with a heavy taper Kidd barrel consistently shoots the WWB 555 bulk ammo better than CCI SV and both MT and ME Wolf. It makes me scratch my head, but love her for being such a cheap date!!

I have watched a ton of videos 22-cartridge/rifle combination taking a lot of assorted brands of ammo just to find one/two brands that will shoot good enough; the 22-cartridge is to me an unimpressive round. So, if you are going to buy one bolt action is the real way to go; it gives you something else to do other than pull the trigger semi-auto guns.

That SK long-range match may be a little expensive. £117 thousand but it so much better that everything iv tried so far and SD s are the lowest iv seen had one string of 25 with a sd of. 4.79😱 iv posted a couple of videos

its not worked well for me out of anything at 50 yards. seems to shoot ok at 200. you're right its a bit expensive.

federal white box is probably my all time favorite 22 ammo

If this will allow me to I will attach a photo of a 0.35" 5 shot group at 25 yards indoors. Not bad but the interesting thing is that it was shot from a Henry lever action 22 with 4X scope and the ammo that you told your viewers to never buy, Eley Subsonic HP. I think you have proof of what does and does not work in your rifle and cannot honestly attest to what results others will find for accuracy. Apparently I can't post the pic....

which state do you think will be the most beneficial for you?

As a rimfire competition shooter, none of the ammo you had was "expensive". The reason you want subsonic ammo for precision rimfire is that as it goes transonic around 75 yards it will lose stability and negatively affect accuracy. Even the people shooting 400+ yards with a 22 will generally still use subsonic ammo. My best 200 yard 5 shot group out of my hall action is 1.88" i believe that was with sk pistol match. I need to retry 200 with the lot of midas+ i currently have.

that whole transonic stuff is a myth. have you every personally tried to use super ammo at distance vs subs? i have and there is no difference. all impacts were square, no tumbling. mark and sam after work have a good video talking about it you should check it out.

@@coreyd1474 ...I thought the transonic transition was important @100+ yards but after watching the same Mark&Sam video, it doesn't seem to be. If you can get Eley Action in 42grn in 50 or bulk 500 give them a try, you might be surprised, I was!

@@littledaddynesbit4193 yea i personally have shot sub sonic 22 out to 500 yards. thats pushing 22lr fairly hard even tho some people have got 1k out of it but thats using a prism. eley force worked pretty well for me long range and thats a super sonic round. but just goes to my original statement i have shot a LOT of long range 22 and never once seen a bullet tumble or destabilize. at least not that got an impact on steel to see.

@@coreyd1474 ... I guess if your target was at the exact distance the bullet goes transonic then you might see groups open up, but the odds of that are slim. I've not shot much HV ammo but I know I prefer standard subsonic, using my 10/22 Target Tactical is allows me to focus on the next shot faster...but some shooters like a round a bit more "punchy"?

it sounds like your heart is into 22lr tell me corey what are you doing to your rifle and your ammo before you go out to your range , maybe i can help you be more consistent love donna.

@@coreyd1474 if you are looking for tight groups their some things you might want to try first buy a rim gage head spacing is important. two, buy a real good scale way all your ammo into groups time consuming but fun, three you won't like this clean the bore every couple groups, we don't load 22lr so you really don't know what's inside from a bench rest shooter i think 22lr is the hardest to master at the hundred even if you spend two or three thousand for your rifle and dont do these things it will still shoot the same love donna

I was expecting more accuracy with some of the ammo you tested...will pass on this gun based on your results. Thanks for the review.

@@coreyd1474 yah rules this gun out...I'm torn between the T1x and the CZ 457 Pro Varmint...leaning toward the Tikka because I have about 7 Tikka centerfires in the safe that have been great guns. Just wish the T1x had a larger diameter barrel profile. Any advice is appreciated.

I've never seen a rifle shoot well with Remington Thunderbolt, Remington Cyclone, or Remington Mohawk.

so.... for the velociter, that is NOT acceptable hunting accuracy at 50yds. At 50yds every round should be on the orange if you wanted to use it for small game.

@@coreyd1474 yes but for small game, squirrel in particular, I shoot head shot. About a 2in target. Instant lights out and no ruined meat. A group like those is liable to miss the head and either hit the body ruining a lot of meat, or go sailing off into the distsnce if your shooting up into a tree

Ive still never seen a rifle shoot thunderbolt what i could call good with my own eyes. Some people have different standards, and some people just talk straight bullshit.

Got a quote from my FFL last night at $475 OTD. I've also been considering the CZ 457 ProVarmint with threaded barrel to add to my collection. I also have a RPRF but my best shooter is... a custom built 10/22 that I put together with a TacSol fluted barrel, Magpul Hunter X22 stock, BXtrigger, KIDD pins, ejector, mag release lever and Leupold glass. I've got $1100 in that 10/22 but it was worth it. It loves Gemtech and CCI SV. It's a "dbl tap" single hole at 50 yards rifle and is my 14yr old daughter's favorite rifle to shoot. All I gotta say to her is I'm shooting the 10/22 today and she's right at the bench with me! :)

save your money on the cz. lots of people saying they don't shoot well. buy a 455

I regret buying my American Rimfire. The center line of the magazine does not line up with the center line of the chamber so consequently the ammunition gets hung-up when the nose of the bullets hit the left side of the chamber. Ruger refuses to fix it. Garbage company!

@@coreyd1474 I see nothing good in a rifle that will not feed ammunition. The center line of the magazine is off in comparison to the bore's center line. It's at a gunsmith's shop now, and after examination they are putting a new stock on it at my expense of course. Ruger won't fix it.

You have two videos filled with testing of cheap ammo. If you want to show how a gun can shoot you have to use a few boxes of match ammo like Lapua Center X, Lapua Midas Plus, RWS 50, RWS 100 or any other quality match ammo. Stop showing all bad groups. If you want to show a few good groups you have to use good ammo and your videos will be more interesting.

the point of my videos isn't to pack them with 20/dollar a box ammo people can't afford to shoot. the idea of them is to get cheap to somewhat expensive stuff to see how it performs. sorry my videos don't please you but they're intended for weekend shooters who want to find the performance/cost ratio.
