I remember when these things came out. Everyone was laughing at the "1 inch at 50 yards guarantee". I promise they lost at least 30% of potential sales off of that little tag rather than saying nothing.

Spend a little less to get a Savage that’s equal in performance, or spend a little more to get a Tikka/Bergara/CZ that will outperform it. The only “plus” is Rem700 pattern trigger compatibility, but that comes with the “minus” of using mags that aren’t optimal for keeping bullet noses and driving bands pristine during feeding.

@@brandonwhite6171 Exactly. The community is so picky. Why can’t this just be a good “cheap” alternative to the others. Not everyone wants to spend $5-700 on a .22 LR. My distributor is running a really good sale on this right now. I may just pick it up to try.

I have the one in sage and absolutely love it. Fired many different weights and brands with the exception of match. Augilla super extra and CCI mini mag 40gr rn gave me consistent 5/8 groups at 50. In my experience 40gr high velocity work best with 16:1 twist like this rifle and the Henry’s. Just my experience but nothing wrong with this rifle in terms of function and accuracy. Even tried the Ruger 10 round mags with no issue.

Yeah, those are the two best cheap loads in mine as well. Mini Mag HPs not so much and I wish Federal Automatch was a bit better in the Springfield but the Aguila is cheap enough. I've seen quite a few 3/8" groups @ 50 yards but .5 to 5/8s is closer to my average. I've not shot any match ammo through mine at all.

Gone are the days of the true, USA, hand made, tack driving 22. I'm thinking of the Winchester model 52B. Literally, one hole groups at 50 yards. Several guys at my range have them. Sold for less than 100.00 in the 1940's. Now, a good sample is in the thousands. This Springfield is a complete turkey. Reminds me of the Remington 504 of about 20 years ago. A beautiful classical American 22 sporter that shot 2 inch groups at 50 yards.

What I learned is acclimating the barrel to the ammunition. I began 22lr during the ammo crisis with a Ruger American Standard (with a $29 Amazon scope). I immediately began testing ammunition at 100 yds by the simple method of loading 4 mags with 10 rds of 4 different ammos. I did not know until just now that I was doing it wrong. But, my testing did give the most consistent groups with slower ammos such as CCI Standard Velocity.

  • @lynnkramer1211

What even IS acclimating the rifle? Did he clean the barrel or chamber between tests? I know that the barrel needs to be acclimated to the LUBE that is on the bullets by each manufacturer. The lube has to be spread all the way down the barrel after the barrel has been cleaned. When done correctly you get the maximum accuracy for that rifle.

I went ahead and re-crowned the barrel myself and now it is just as accurate as my Savage MKii

You talked about acclimation a bunch, but you didn't say why, so for anyone curious: Lead bullets have to be lubricated, this is why all 22 bullets are lubricated and most centerfire bullets, being copper jacketed, are not. Every company uses a different lube, some use wax, some use oil, etc, and every lube boils off/burns differently, so until the lube from the previous ammo is displaced by the new lube, you're going to get inconsistency, until the new lube reaches equilibrium.

Can explain the acclimation thing you're talking about. I've never heard of that and so I went looking online and the only thing I can find is some people (rimfire and center-fire) using that term but in their explanations they are using "acclimate" in lieu of "fouling". In other words, they said that some shooters acclimate their barrels after cleaning aka fire fouling shots. It didn't appear you were cleaning the barrel between ammo types so I'm confused. Can you go into more depth on this please and show us complete strings to see it?

Subsonic .22lr is better for precision shooting since it doesn't cross the transsonic barrier when in flight like subsonic ammo will. As far as consistency, yes the more consistant the velocity the better the groups will be. 22LR also has to contend with rim thickness (where as centerfires normally contend with COAL and seat depth) and high quality brass is usually the best for rim thickness consistency.

I mean maybe one of the factory loads just happens to be a perfect match with your particular rifle, but what are the odds? Wouldn't it be better to have a dampened barrel, or is it just assumed this rifle will be used with a tuner?

Of 10 groups three managed .5/.6 inches, three went 1/1.2 and the rest .75/.85 inches. Very mediocre in my estimation.

I believe I have watched every KZread video on the 2020 rimfire and this is the first one with any sort of accuracy. Are all the others that bad, did 22plinkster just get a good one or are all the other folks just bad shots? I was all hyped up on this rifle until I got to KZread.

Springfield doesn’t make billions of offerings, but what it does is quality. Maybe biased because of military , but am thrilled to get a good shooting 22 from them. To each their own. If I was the Company making a guarantee to the shooting public, I would problem move that back to 25 yards, and you all know why. Now what I didn’t know is a 22 needing to adapt to a barrel while changing ammo. I will be more patient when trying several brands now. Thanks

Ok I have been watching this new fad going around called the fly swatter challenge and waiting for you to put your video out shooting it. Come on step up. Just kidding, but really give it your best shot. How about some long range with the 22 like you used to do too?

As soon as I heard the Remington 700 trigger that made me worried, because I have witnessed 700's firing without having the trigger pulled. Plus I own a Norico EM 332 that shoots under 1moa at 50 yards, and it only cost me $170.

Most of the 700s self firing come from people screwing with the trigger adjustments not knowing what they're doing. My CZ457 in the manual says to be careful adjusting the trigger as it could start failing to fire or fire when closing the bolt.

My son is missing his right hand. He shoots my Rossi 22 just fine. He would prefer a bolt action rifle. We are still looking for an inexpensive bolt action. In Boy Scouts he was using a Ruger but it was not comfortable for him. Any suggestions for a right handed person that has no right hand and shoots left? Thanks.

Its good in general. A lot of people seem to over estimate their 22 rifles, and most of them cannot produce 1"/50yard. They arent centre fire rifles.

I've found a few older 22LR rifles that shot very good with cheap bulk 22LR ammo. My first 22LR was a cheap bolt action that performed well with Federal Lightning, the better thing was it was reliable in my semiautomatic 22LR rifle I bought new later. Sadly, I've bought a few later that don't hold half as good groups with anything. Part is the quality of some ammo. I've got some 22LR that was manufactured in 90s that is more accurate than some "target" grade from post 2010.
