Nice demonstration thanks for sharing!!! I'll like to ask something else since the same steering wheel system has and my kayak.... I load my kayak on the roof of my car alone and the weight of the vessel is 40 Kgr about ... first I lift up the "nose" of the kayak and the most of the weight goes the fin back!!! I think that destroy the regulation(s) of the steering wheel. Do you have any suggestion(s)??? Have good time every time!!! Best regards from Hellas (Greece)!!!

Thank you for reaching out! We would recommend considering a hull lift assist for a roof rack like this: www.thule.com/en-us/water-racks/kayak-and-canoe-racks/thule-hullavator-pro-_-1685448 OR this: yakima.com/products/showdown?_ga=2.1533622.666848354.1699279944-1050424523.1698936893 . Hope this helps!

Why is it that my titan 10.5 come with a slayer rudder cap instead of a titan rudder cap when I bought it?

This is great for your kayak because the steering control is mounted on top of the sideboard. However, how do you do this for an Ultimate FX 13? My steering cable, and control pulley, run UNDER the side board! It is a royal pain to get to the pulley under the side board. I am going to attempt to do this today.

Really like the Native Propel setup compared to the Nucanoe propel setup. Can any body tell me how far down the rudder is beneath the actual kayak ? Since I’ll be fishing some pretty shallow rivers

The rudder does NOT go below the little "KEEL" in front of it, therefore protecting it from damage (stumps, rocks, etc.).

@@fishingva9946 I fish a lot of creeks and shallow water, and the lake I go to is "Notorious" for lots of sub-surface stumps (Outboard repair guys just LOVE the business that lake gives them!). I never slide the aft "clip" over the unit, as it lets it swivel up when I hit a stump or bottom. In as little as 5 seconds, you can go from powering by Propel, or raising it up and using the paddles. That simple...(And, its shallow draft is easy to navigate in as little as 6 inches of water!). I like stand-up paddling, watching for stumps, sighting fish, and watching everything. I don't have very good balance (lost hearing in one ear 25 years ago), but stand-up casting or paddling is a "Dream" in the Titan. In ankle-deep water, I just put down the wheels... Go where I WANT to go. (Great for taking your Kayak up the bank or across "the Shallows", on those little "excursions to nowhere"!). Haha!

@@fishingva9946 If you drag anything over rocks, well...! The rudder is made of a very resilent plastic, but it will bend, some.... I plan on making a rudder from a 18-Wheeler Mud Flap and an aluminum bar (machined to fit the top plate), so I can replace anything if damaged. (I might even post when I get done, on here!).

Is this supposed to do the same thing as the Berley Pro upgrade, with the better turning radius? I'm considering going the Berley route unless this works the same.

  • @Akumahito

Native's description is extremely thin, but I'd imagine if it was an upgrade to standard throw they'd mention it. So now you have to ask yourself, is Berley worth an extra $90 just for an upgrade to turn radius or do you just want the strength of the braided line.

  • @Akumahito

At 9 minutes you can see him moving the rudder handle, and although he's not saying if its going over max or not, it seems to be the standard amount of throw and not the almost 180 Berley gives.

This kit, while providing improvement, obviously does not approach Berleypro's near 180 degree range. I love my 2016 Slayer Propel 16 and happen to think that it's possibly the most durable (and internally dry) hull in its class! That being said, I've never understood why Native has taken so long to make needed innovations like steering improvements, longer rudders, weed guards, and redesign of the top plate that supports the rudder handle!

all this does is replace the cable with corded rubber, the B Pro gives much tighter turning than the stock Native setup and when you add a better rudder it really turns tight. but it all costs money. I also find myself having to adjust the steering a lot more with cord as versus cable.

What a nightmare this kayak has been for me. The steering system is an absolute joke. If you’re reading this and thinking about getting a Native I am telling you right now, look some where else. I wanted this kayak for two years. Waited to get the 2020 with all the new upgrades and it has been a freaking nightmare of a kayak. Had problems with the drive after only one year. Internals completely stripped, constantly messing with the steering. Absolutely hate this kayak.
