Native Watercraft

Native Watercraft

There's nothing like the view from the water. It's not a bad gig, designing and building kayaks, hybrids and accessories that get people out in the natural world.
As busy and crowded as the world seems, there are still tranquil places to explore, wildlife to encounter, moments to photograph, fish to stalk, catch and release. These places often exist in our own back yards. And there's no better way to discover them than in a Native Watercraft.

    Great question - It can hold up to 50lbs of added weight to the kayak. So the kayak plus 50 pounds of gear. Hope this helps!

    Can you put the Xi3 on a TitanX 10.5 and still use the pedal drive while the motor is in the up position? I know that some of the other 10ft Natives you cannot because there is not enough room between the pedal and and the motor head when it is up.

    Yes this was very helpful, I feel pretty confident I could fully disassemble the entire thing and re-assemble it now. Yesterday I had to use a 3 foot pipe on my spanner wrench to get it to even budge and I had to continue to use the pipe while removing the side cap until I got it almost out (1.5 rotations). It had some white crusty gunk on it that made the removal process very challenging. I had to use so much pressure that the cap its self now has slightly elongated wrench holes. I believe it is still usable but nearly impossible to remove. In hindsight I had thought about using heat and probably should have but was a little concerned about how that would effect the rubber gasket ring. I'm a pretty mechanical guy so this stuff doesn't intimidate me but not a lot of people would use a 3 or 4 foot pipe and practically jump on it to remove a cap. Not sure what you were using to keep them from loosening up but it seems overkill in hindsight, lol.

    does the bow mounted motor make the nose of the kayak heavy?

  • @NativeWatercraft
    @NativeWatercraft2 ай бұрын

    The bow mounted motor makes the nose of the kayak heavier but this was accounted for in the design process as we expected a motor to be mounted here. We added additional buoyancy to the hull up at the bow so the TitanX would still perform well with the motor. I hope this helps!

    Why the mineral oil?

  • @NativeWatercraft
    @NativeWatercraft3 ай бұрын

    The mineral oil is used to lube the lower fairing O-ring prior to installation. The O-ring comes in the kit dry. If you don't have mineral oil, you can use any oil that would be safe and not break down the rubber ring.

    Hello. I’m a lubrication specialist and a millwright for US steel. So I know gears and lube. So there’s absolutely nothing special about finish line grease. Literally any good marine or white lithium grease is fine. No water get in the drive anyway. But there’s tons of good options at your local stores. We pay a lot for these kayaks and I think it’s poor service just because you have some deal with finish line or something you would actually void our warranty for not using it is just horrible.

  • @NativeWatercraft
    @NativeWatercraft3 ай бұрын

    Thank you for your observations and comments. Finish Line is a grease we found works on our gears, so we apply this particular grease to our gears during assembly. In an effort to keep maintenance simple, we are recommending that customers use the same grease. Our understanding is that it can be a mistake to mix greases on the gear because it can lead to a breakdown of the gear surface. To change the grease brand would mean that customers would have to completely remove the original grease off of the gears prior to applying a new brand. We do offer Finish Line grease on our website as a convenience for our customers since we recommend use of this product. This is simply an effort to keep maintenance requirements clear and simple.

  • @NativeWatercraft
    @NativeWatercraft3 ай бұрын

    You would likely have the 501 series Propel Drive. The 501 series is addressed in the video as well. Two differences while working with the 501: you would use two bearings when replacing the lower or upper fairing gears. Also, in the 501 there is a damper/plastic gasket between the fin and the fairing. Hope this helps and thank you for watching!

    Do you have a video installing the Xi3 on the 10.5 yet? Saw the 12.5 example but the location of the power panel is on the hatch on the 10.5 The through hull on the release cable cant really be mounted in the same spot as the 12.5. do you recommend mounting it next to the hatch hindge?

  • @NativeWatercraft
    @NativeWatercraft2 ай бұрын

    Yes, that is what we would recommend. The Mounting location would be to the left of the hinge on the hatch. The Reason why we mount on the left side is because the release mechanism for the xi3 pedal is also located on that side.
