@GON they don't have to be related. Akane has had those star eyes several times throughout the manga even though she is not related to aqua and ruby. Also the boss of the lalalie theatre company has explained before that those eyes are meant to represent "deceptive eyes that have the power to make a lie look like the truth". So they aren't a feature that that gets inherited through genes, it's something that people develop (especially since ruby and aqua started out with one white star eye and now they both have two black stars)

@GON no she doesn't??? You can also see it literally in the recent episode where akane had her normal eyes one second and as soon as she blinked and got into the character of ai, she had those starry eyes. Also it's literally explained in the manga what those eyes mean, it's an art style choice that have a meaning in the story, not a feature they are born with, otherwise the twins would have had two star eyes right from the beginning. If not then shouldn't it be confusing for others why their pupils changed all of a sudden? Also if those star eyes are something people inherit then people would have immediately recognised them as ai's kids

This chapter made me realize that Aqua and Ruby did not have a loving mothers in their previous life Aqua‘s mother died when he was born and Ruby‘s mother abandoned her when she got sick so to them AI was there real mother they got reincarnated so they could also have a chance to experience a mother’s love not having a mother’s love in a child’s life is very heartbreaking so this makes losing AI even more sad AI was Aqua and Ruby‘s real and true mother😢 at this point, I just want to see Aqua and Ruby be happy. Hopefully they can find that happiness soon.

I'm feeling really bad more for Ruby than Aqua because compared to Aqua before reincarnated his mother died when giving birth to him but Ruby mom simply discarded her like that. Even at her dying breath she only had goro/Aqua by her side, poor girl.

Yeah her story is definitely one of the most tragic. Ruby had a pretty horrible life as Sarina and then had to deal with losing another mother she loved as well as realizing Goro is dead. 😥

My theory! Marina is what Miyako USED to be: only interested in her career. Her children probably work in the industry as well, and her reason for abandoning Sarina is that she was not useful to her.

it's true it's much more painful bcs Sarina / Ruby has been given love by her parents before she was abandoned, so when that love is betrayed the impact is far more terrible

I feel like apart of the reasons aqua doesn’t understand his relationship with ai is because he never understood what a mother’s love was, and wether that’s how he feels about ai or not.

I guess even at the peak of his villain arc he’s still the caring guy he we’ve seen throughout the series deep down, and honestly that’s based as fuk, to not lose sight of yourself as a person while still intending to sacrifice it all for revenge is an extremely hard thing to do

Well Ruby is going to get her "inspiration" just like Aqua got his "inspiration" to cry in the Tokyo Blade arc. At least Aqua can keep it together for the most part. Ruby on the other hand is most likely going to lose it inside and go further down the dark path when she sees her "former" mom. Sadly it's going to be in 2 weeks just like the anime. At least Aka takes his usual week break after releasing 3 chapters in a row. We get to eat good compared to other series. We get manga chapter AND an anime episode all within a couple of hours of each other in the SAME DAY.

Yeah Ruby is prolly gonna need to someone to keep her from falling apart since I don’t think she’ll have tolerance as Aqua. And getting a new chapter and episode for the anime on the day feels so good! Especially when they connect to each other. Like when the episode when Kana joined B Komachi and out the same day she left it in the manga. Aka’s timing is peak!

You could tell the exhaustion was getting to him as he was taking more breaks than usual. This time since he's only writing hopefully he won't burn himself out especially when he's doing Renai Daiko/Love Agency in the same week.

Sarina's mom is right up there with Rosa Ushiromiya as Worst Mother tbh. Even Ruby is showing the same trauma response that Maria Ushiromiya did-- she's just a different age. Poor kids

I’m going to hold off my judgment of the mom right now because I need more context on who she as a person. She could easily be a horrible mother but I could also see that the mother can’t deal with the trauma of Rubys death. I know there are lots of parent who can’t handle the death of there child especially when their young and the only way to cope is to not think of them as little as possible. Because if they do they break down crying every time. So I’ll wait and see before I judge her.

You bring up a fair point. The context for the mom does matter. She could’ve prolly just not wanted to deal with the trauma of losing a child and purposely forgot about it. If someone brings Sarina up, she might break down. She still could’ve done better as a mother, but I’d understand her choice better if it was cuz of trauma or something.

Agreed. It might seem like she's a horrible person going out partying while her sick daughter died alone in the hospital. But her alcohol problem could also be the result of having massive regret for the stupid decisions she made in the past. My bets are on the 2nd option because it seems like Ruby is gonna lose it if nothing positive happens.

I don't want to defende this woman because what she did to Sarina was unforgivable, leaving her sick in a hospital in the middle of nowhere and didn't even show up when she was on the death bed. Really an awful mother. But there is still a few things to considerate. Marina is now 54, but back then, when Sarina born, she was only 20. So probably it was really difficult even for her to take care of Sarina (maybe had a hard time to find a job? who knows). Also if Sarina was still alive she would be 34 years old. Her siblings looks in their 20 approx. It could also be that Marina, after Sarina's death, started drinking (so now she's a alcoholic) and maybe she changed because she doesn't want to make the same mistake. If we have some more information about those siblings and about Sarina's former family it could be better, because if the siblings are like 25 it means that Marina gave birth WHEN Sarina was in the hospital and living her life with a healthy baby and forget about the sick one (if this is the case I hope Aka will do JUSTICE for Ruby).

Yeah it really depends on when her other children were born. It’s still bad either way, but if she had justifiable reason to leave Sarina back then and had more children after she passed, then it won’t be as bad. Otherwise, she’ll deserve Ruby’s wrath.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but there should really be no excuse for not coming to see your daughter when they're on their literal deathbed... Maybe the mum did change and become better as a parent, since it seems like she's had 2 more kids since Sarina passed away...although, we don't even know if she had them after Sarina died or not.

Yeah, Marina might’ve changed and become a better parent. Maybe she even tries to forget about Sarina to avoid the trauma, which is understandable, but it still doesn’t really excuse from her abandoning her own daughter in such a vulnerable state. It does seem like the other kids r younger than Sarina too since she’d be in like her late 20s if she were still alive.

This was the saddest chapter for me. 😢😢😢

That is a good point you brought up. We’ve seen him be cold and calculated in the recent chapters, but we see more of his humanity and caring nature for Sarina in this one.

Yeah a lot of anime/manga have characters with tragic backstories and stuff but OnK is one of the few where a lot of them can be relatable due to being in a modern setting. Have to give props to Aka for being able to handle these types of topics well enough in their writing.

They are the same age. Both have POS mothers. Mother is in show biz. Maybe the mother hates Sarina because she gave up the wrong twin. They could only afford one more kid Really make the mother more hated. It's really too convoluted to happen now. But with crow girl anything is possible. Hey maybe crow girl was an triplet sister...um. that was aborted before birth. Also it looks like the mom had another daughter after Sarina's death. What if that daughter name is also Sarina. Like a replacement. That would really make that mom the top villian. EDIT: Also if Ai was Sarina's twin that would make the Sarina's mom the grandmother of Ruby and Aqua.

@@ZephyrRetro not to mention in chapter 2 in that glimpse of the future where ruby was interviewed she expressed that she's happy since she has the person she trusts the most by her side during the movie and proceeds to say "right, aqua?". But right now these two are on difficult terms with each other so it's hard to see how ruby would actually begin to trust aqua again. The only way that could happen in my opinion is if ruby finds out who aqua was and that whole situation offers a good opportunity to reveal their identities especially since that future interview should happen during the current arc

We don't really know how Sarina's mom feels, there isn't enough to say that the mom doesn't regret anything. Why would she bring up a painful past to Aqua? She's like 60, it would be supremely socially inept to fish for condolences for a 20y old tragedy that doesn't involve the listener. The topic of family was brought up and she's happy to have a (seemingly) untied and healthy family. Do you bring up your past traumas that you're ashamed of or do you show off something you're dearly grateful for? This is probably a dramatic red herring for Aqua's character development. As a particularly grumpy god said to his disappointed but also, at-the-time, insolenting son (paraphrasing)"we all grieve in different ways. Don't presume I did not love her [mom/wife] as much as you did because I do so in silence."

You’re right in that it could very well be a red herring. She could’ve just not wanted to bring up past trauma. But on the other hand, the way the info was displayed in this chapter made it seem like Sarina’s previous life was hell. Could be there to throw us off but idk if those thoughts would’ve been written if there was nothing to it.

Comments like those I thought were overly harsh and hasty/premature, so I meant to push back against that, but it came out like I was replying directly only to the video content (understandably. my bad) I appreciate the reply, and you covering oshi no ko content

im now curious that why ruby never try to find her parents after she reincarnated. I think its reasonable to look for your family when you live a lie like that, even though she wont talk to them or anything, Is she just too content with her current life? or has she been battling all those thoughts that she decided to leave her old family

Wouldn’t be surprised Aqua did become someone he hates tbh. He’s already going down a similar path to as Hikaru and pushing everyone away. He’ll do anything for the people cares about, even if it means sacrificing himself.

It’s crazy how goro/aqua was more of a parent to sarina in there old life

She was my oshi since the start of the series. And after chapter 75, I am always worried about her

We know very little about sarinas parents and what we know is not good at all, with the knowledge we have added to the words marina said it only makes that family look very hypocritical. We could try and assume they did grieve but we only know the suffering of a child left to rot in a remote hospital while her parents worked in the city. This just make her and the family look horrible
