Dad and I floated in our inflatable pontoon boats from Shady Cove down to Tou Velle Park. It's about a sixteen mile run. We put in at about 9 am and got done at about 4:30pm.

Thank you for the comment. Wish I had even more time. I hear the river is full of winter run steel-head right now, but we're supposed to have snow this weekend. Gonna have to break out the Drift boat, and propane heater instead I think.

Actually both started out as "Osprey's" by "Rivendell". I bought one, and when Dad saw it, he had to have one too, but he had to make his better than mine. That's an unwritten rule in our household. They were purchased from a local store here in Oregon called Bi-Mart, and at the time were selling for $199 regularly, but I got mine on sale for $149. They would still be a bargain for regular price.

like this video - I've been wanting to do some Steelhead Fishing up on the Pere Marquette in Michigan but I'm not as healthy as I use to be - But this could be the answer for me - Float downstream for a while, then get out and cast, then drift some more Thanks for the video

No punctures yet, but I suppose you could puncture anything if you try hard enough. They are pretty tough, but I do wear a inflatable life vest just in case.

How those pontoons hold up against rocks? Do they puncture when banging against rocks?

What a great video. Thanks for sharing!! Love the father/son bonding experience. Dads should also make things bigger and better, that's what makes Dad so awesome, strong, and respected. I'm looking for a good 1-person pontoon boat for a gift. Thanks for the info.

I am very fortunate to have an awesome dad that is also my best friend, hunting and fishing buddy, loan officer at times, employer, fellow deacon at church, etc etc etc. Thank you for watching and hope you find the perfect boat. I got mine at a store called Bi-Mart, and as of today, they still have them in stock.

Hey, Roy I’ve recently bought a Colorado XT pontoon and really want to get it in the river. My question is do you think it’ll be able to handle the rogue? And would it be a good idea to use a 40lb thrust motor on the river or should I just stick with the oars for more control?
@royb8s
3 жыл бұрын
That is a tough question to answer. I have no idea how much experience or skill you have, or if you can even swim. My guess is you don't have a lot of experience or you wouldn't be asking this question. I do not recommend a motor of any kind. I also don't recommend oars that are two piece. Also if you do not row very well, then go to a lake and learn that first. The river is very unforgiving. The only time you have any control is if you are going faster or slower than the speed of the river. In other words if you are traveling at the same speed as the river, you have no control and are at the mercy of the river. ALSO, WEAR A LIFE JACKET!!!!! It is colder than you think and you can cramp very easily and then drown. The river changes drastically from the upper river to the lower river, so get to know the river, and maybe go with a group of people.

scarney19 They are called an Osprey, and we got them fairly cheap at Bi-Mart. Dad had a special frame build for his by a guy that ownes a boat shop. He wanted something that he could pull crab pots up thru the middle when he goes over to the coast to go crabbing. he can also put a little outboard motor on his.

We both purchased longer one piece oars because I don't think the shorter two piece oars were suitable for river use. I also built the read seat rack with anchor drop myself. This has been an awesome boat for the price. My dad had a custom built frame made by a local boat maker. He wanted something to mount his Merc 4 horse to, and he also made it wider so he could pull Crab pots up thru the bottom when crabbing at the coast. He has used his at lakes and rivers all across this country.

What does whitewater pontoon float fishing have in common with mowing the lawn? - Neither promote the presence of children and both will bite you if you ain't paying real close attention to ones surroundings.
