Got it! Just got new skins on my drift boat trailer yesterday. The spring chinook run is looking promising. 😉

I have the XT model and it comes with a detachable wheel that allows we to transport it and all my gear using the setup just like a wheelbarrow. Great tool for Fishing and getting out on the water.

That does seem handy, especially if you have some distance to get to the water. Classic Accessories sell the wheel kit for the standard Colorado as well.

I picked up a Costco 9’ pontoon boat, a copy of the Colorado one, will be looking to add more to it. Thanks for the great information 🎣

You’re welcome, good luck with it. I enjoy mine. Make sure to get an anchor and rod holders if it didn’t come with, those are the most important add ons in my opinion.

I wear my waist high breathable waders. Keeps my feet dry and cool if it's warm out. Nice little boats they are!🤙

Couple of things I think that can help is a strap on the paddle bars that you can run behind your neck to help lift/carry the boat. Also to help inflate, ryobi has a hand help power inflator/deflator. Thanks for the video.

They do break down pretty small! I did a review on the boat last year and to my surprise it’s been viewed over 10,000 times. A common question was about transport, so I filmed this on my last bass trip.

@wrench6122 I believe they are more maneuverable than a kayak, plus pontoons make the boat very stable. A kayak may go a little faster and can cut through exposed grass better, but I would use my pontoon over my kayak for fishing. When I want to go faster, I backrow like you would do with a row boat.

@wrench6122 it’s a 2012 tundra, has a bed width of 58.7 inches. Check with your state’s marine board on use of a motor, in Oregon where I live you have to register any boat in order to use a motor.

Great idea for keeping from snagging your threads. I’ve been thinking of making a pack frame of some sort to transport it a little farther or over obstacles. Has anyone tried this yet?

Not sure! That would be heavy on the back! Mainly because of the size.

I use my 2 wheel deer cart. Put it under the back and I can move it anywhere

Not using the Wheel for it? I reverse the install, start loading, then pull of the wheel. When I get to spot, I then pull out. If I need the wheel, I install again. I do use the cardboard and a piece of carpet trick in the back of the pickup. Fun to use.

Good point, yes, you could easily remove the pontoons and partially deflate them. The frame is held together with removable pins, so you can take it down as far as you need to fit it in the Forester.

I'd like to get one of these just for when I go camping and go out on the lake but the daughter does want to use it for fishing. As with anything inflatable, what are the concerns about punctures with hooks?

The pontoon covers are fairly protective, but a hook could go through them. I’ve had pontoons for 14 years and haven’t punctured one.

On a still lake does this thing paddle forward easily? Or is it a bear to paddle when there is no current?

It’s easy to paddle, they move around pretty well. However if I want to get somewhere a little quicker, I flip it around and backrow. Pontoons have a little more drag than a kayak though.

Is that summit 2 air valve or robert neckey? Just wondering what adapter i need for pump

I believe it’s a ‘Summit 2’, based on photos online. I use the adapter that comes with the pontoon. It’s not perfect, but I make it work. Now you got me thinking though!

Heading out to the garage now. I used to carry the Madison model in my 2009 Tacoma double cab. It sat slightly tilted, but it fit. I think this is the same width. I remove a little air during transport even in my Tundra.

The frame is about 56” to the outer edge, the pontoons are about an inch outside of that. So 58”.

Do you loosen the valves for inflating and then tighten when done inflating? Of do you keep the valve fully tightened during inflation?

You don’t do anything with the valve. You push and turn the inflation tube. They have a one way valve so you can pump, but not lose air. To deflate, there is a button inside you push down allowing air to escape.

@@RAGEFISHING Thanks! The "Official" video from Classic Accessories, was much more complicated, and didn't seem to work very well.

I use a float tube which works well for me on small ponds. Do you use one? Also, have been thinking about (upgrading?) to a pontoon or fishing kayak, your thoughts for a fellow Oregon angler. (Would be nice not to use waders and fins.) PS: where do you store expensive rods in a truck with bed full. Cheers

Hey Richard! I used a float tube once in one of the ponds I fish, was not a fan. Sold it and bought a pontoon. 😬 I wish I had kept it for backpacking into wilderness lakes though, since a pontoon isn’t practical. I really like the pontoons for fishing, very stable. My wife and I are looking at some angling kayaks, we will probably get some next year. I haven’t fished out of one, but we’ve rented several at Honeymon Park to see what we liked most. We decided on sit on top style for what we do. As far as rods, I carry them in my truck from home to the pond. I’m pretty careful with my rods and reels because I have an addiction to quality rods and reels 😁

@@RAGEFISHING I have many G Loomis rods and even a few EDGE rods. Did notice your collection, I’m paranoid about rod tips…. Even for other’s fine rod collections. LOL. I have been looking for a kayak, still unsure and concerned about role over, loosing gear or myself... which is not a problem with a pontoon or float tube. Also, (myodfw) has a new waterway access permit for kayaks over 10 feet. Yet another fee or future ticket. :(. PS: really enjoy your KZread channel! Following close.

Not sure, maybe a shorter car roof rack with 2 people. I’m not sure how it would ride either. I have seen people transport just the frame on a roof rack, so they take the pontoons off, deflate them and put them inside the vehicle.

Depends on what type of water / wind situation you have where you fish. I have only been using that little 3.5 pound grapnel anchor, sometimes I don’t even put out the fingers. I just bought a 5 pound mushroom anchor which I have yet to test. I would say in most of my fishing situations, a 5 pound is all you need. If you’re dealing with heavier winds, maybe an 8 to 10 would be necessary, but I’ve never used over 5. Of course I’m mostly fishing smaller ponds.

@@percher8percher873 you should be good. You don’t want too much weight or too long of an anchor, you don’t want it dragging in the water when it’s stowed. 🎣

I believe I read this boat is like 71 lbs but watching you lift it and transport it I kinda think it’s lighter unless you are super strong. That is what is keeping me from purchasing it. I don’t want to be lugging 70 plus lbs around. I have a canoe that’s 62 lbs and it’s a pain putting it in my pickup truck. It would be nice to know the real weight of this boat. I just found your channel and I like it so I’m now a new subscriber.

Thanks Richard! I’m certainly not a power lifter and it’s manageable. They also make a wheel attachment for this model so you can wheel it down to the water. I just make a few trips like I show in this video, trying to keep the boat as light as possible. Plus I removed the trolling motor bracket which was pretty heavy! It was probably a pound or two, pretty heavy duty. Just held on by bolts.

That he can pick it up standing in the middle of the boat offers a great advantage when lifting (it's more balanced) and it also provides excellent maneuverability, which a canoe does not provide, at all.

Got one of these Colorado pontoons on the way! Already researching mods. Do you know of anyone who sells the platform? I've already got an upgraded seat with riser, battery, 46 trolling motor etc. any other tips? or links?

My only advice would be to add rod holders. It has 4 positions, so I bought 3 extra. Don’t forget an anchor, I’ve switched since that video to a 5lb mushroom anchor, the grapnel style grabs too many weeds.

I got my Colorado Classic Pontoon boat yesterday.. I got a Super deal on Amazon over the Memorial Day weekend $295.00 Free Shipping too ! Was going to take it out today but the weather here in Central Oregon doesn't realize the Rain was supposed to stop before June came around. Maybe soon !

I don't get why you'd get an inflatable pontoon just to have it carried on a back of a truck like a regular kayak or any non inflatable. I guess it does save some space in the garage, but usually there's plenty space.

Good question, I like the maneuverability of the pontoon, the anchor system and the tackle storage. I also like being able to deal with catch are release right in front of me without having to twist my torso. I use my pontoons in rivers as well, which can be back-ferried like a drift boat when navigating. You also made the last point, I can break it down and get it in my wife’s CRV if I wanted. The pond in that video is 10 minutes from my house, I was mainly trying to show how light it is to carry around. Kayaks have their place for sure, my wife and I want a few, you definitely can get around faster. Do you have any recommendations on makes or models?

How long does I take for you to build and inflate it

I would say about 45 minutes? It’s been a few years since I’ve put it together. Once you know the steps, breakdown for transportation will be faster.

The bottom portion is coated with black pvc, the top is heavy nylon. This is my second classic accessories pontoon, I’ve never had one leak. I would say they are pretty durable.

How do you get in boat without getting shoes wet?

Very carefully. 😁 I generally face the boat as I carry it, facing the back side. I put my feet on the pegs and push off with my knee in my seat, then twist around. Easier to do than explain. I have yet to get my feet wet. Hopefully that made sense, good question!

I don’t normally name small ponds or river names publicly to avoid over pressuring them. I will tell you most small ponds and lakes in the Willamette Valley hold bass. ODFW has a list of warm water ponds on their website. You should be able to find a good one close to where you live. Good luck!
