    *This makes my old motor look like a toy **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's well built. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I'm very sure it will perform just fine.*

    I've had the Colorado XT for a long time and have modded it in many ways without altering the frame. I have used the heck out of it and have never had any problems with it or had to repair it in any way. I take it on big lakes and down rivers with class 1-2 rapids. It's very versatile. The best thing I have done is to reinforce the transom to take a 3 hp outboard engine. Much lighter than a trolling motor with a longer range. I love your mods.

    Ingenuity at its finest! Simply being able to invision things and make improvements is a gift itself. Also there is wood treatment stuff called Rymar that you can coat the plywood in and then after drying you can apply some sort of top cover. Cheers!

    Thanks for this video! I used a few of your trucks same as the snap on fish finder mount, even ended up getting a striker 4 as well! I didn’t go a 1/2 Mile on my maiden voyage and caught a 26” Stealhead trolling a spinner. Good times and great Raft! However I mounted my motor on the bow and that was a game changer as well! No more reach around as and cramped neck/shoulders. Seat extension will be my next improvement and dual transport wheels. Thanks again!

    Fish and Forage I do have one. What size trolling motor is that? I cant seem to find a definitive answer on the proper length. Also what thrust amount is it?

  • @FishandForage

    @FishandForage

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's 30lbs of thrust and has a 30 inch shaft. I actually have a link to the exact one I bought in the description, too! I will say it's a TINY bit short, but only an issue when I am standing on the platform and the weight is more forward, the rear end can lift a bit too high. When I'm sitting(Which I always am when the motor is running) the motor is far enough in the water no problem.

  • @APXVelkhana

    @APXVelkhana

    4 жыл бұрын

    Fish and Forage awesome. Last question: would it be bad do do a larger pedestal for the seat? 7 inches wouldn’t be terrible but I found some that are 11.5” and adjustable to even higher than that. Wasn’t sure if that would affect the weight distribution by a significant amount or not.

  • @FishandForage

    Wheels idea is great. The single wheel is a bit unstable from side to side. The single wheel also will ride in the water and create drag if placed in the up position. I rarely use wheel anymore. I purchased a very lightweight 400lb 5'x8' trailer from The Tractor Store ($750). XT fits near perfect. No more lifting toon on top of rack and dissasembly of rods etc. I just leave everything assembled, trailer, toon, rods, gear etc in garage and unhitch from 4 cylinder Sonoma truck. ( I think any passenger style 4 cyl will work. Requires a lightweight hitch system). This was a real game changer. Just pack a lunch the night before and away you go. Garage required. Most boat docks are free. If there is line of boats to launch you can always go back to wheel system and launch that way. Good luck.

  • @FishandForage

    @FishandForage

    4 жыл бұрын

    You can bet one of the first things I buy is a nice little utility trailer for this thing as soon as I get a garage :) As it stands now, I am forced to break down the pontoon each time I am off the water due to lack of space. There are a few lakes that are off the road a ways, too. The double wheel is really nice to get the toon down to those areas. I am actually setting up another one soon with the wheels wider apart. The one in this video is heaps better than a single wheel, but an even wider wheelbase will be nice. This one can still tip semi-easily.

    I realize this video is 4+ years old, but wondering if you still have this pontoon boat??? If you do, would you measure all the pieces of the fork for the wheel. I know the curved square is 1" square, but I need the length, and the length of the two flat bars. Also the distance from the ends to the bends. Classic Accessories has discontinued all of their watercraft sales and parts. Thank you. Love the ingenuity you have used in setting yours up...

    This is my favorite deck mod that I have seen so far, absolutely! Hope you don't mind but I am going to commandeer many of your mods. The only thing that I will do different is to add a piece to the front foot peg with a section of PVC pipe that I can use as a grip to help me stand up. (getting old). What size trolling motor would you recommend, 30, 40 or 50? If you don't mind me asking.

    I'd look into how those kayak guys make their dollys honestly. It may be a bit weird to adapt it to a pontoon, though. I'd bet you could make something out of PVC and/or plywood that the pontoon could strap to or rest on easy enough. Sucks that the mount isn't there! They sell the replacement wheels on the Classic Accessories site. That'd be the easiest way...

    Glad you enjoyed! I'd definitely recommend the XT or the Wilderness. They are both great! And this does actually have the swivel seat. I've seen some folks tie on straps and attach them to the motor so when they turn the seat, the motor turns, too. This thing rides pretty shallow. I haven't had any situations where I couldn't get someplace I wanted to go because of water or structure depth.

    Fantastic video! Mods are excellent. Question: I likely wont require a transducer mod, and since I wont need one, do you think it's worth creating the standing platform/board that reaches to the rear frame behind the seat? The thought was then to place/secure the battery on the actual platform, under the seat (pedestal swivel seat), evening the weight to the center of the pontoon? interested to hear your thoughts on that...

  • @FishandForage

    @FishandForage

    3 жыл бұрын

    That is actually one of the things I plan on doing when I need to revisit the standing platform. I think having it extend all the way back to the basket would be suuuper helpful and would have saved some fallen tackle more than once! I don't think the extra weight would be much of a problem, either. Plywood isn't too heavy IMO. The one downside for me at least is that it'd be bulkier to store. Not an issue if you have a garage or storage shed, ect. :)

  • @frankko1235

    @frankko1235

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@FishandForage Thanks for your reply. I've re-viewed your video, and though you didn't mention the thickness of your plywood, I believe it's 3/4" thick. I'm planning on having 2 pieces of a standing platform made, where, in addition to your front platform (that reaches the front bar of the seat frame), the second platform piece would be from the rear platform frame (from the rear cord tube guide is) to the rear bar of the seat frame. so, essentially, the 2 plywood boards would meet at the center of the seat frame (one mounted from rear, and the other from the front)? However, i think the rear plywood platform needs to be a permanent fix, since the rear steel frame does not come apart. Likely will need to cut a slot on the T-joint PVC in order to slide PVC into steele frame under basket area.

    You are correct, it's 3/4 inch plywood. Your ideas sound pretty solid. You should take some pics when you're done! I'd love to see how it turns out. I hadn't thought about splitting the platform into two. Could offer some opportunity to still keep the transducer mount in the same place!

Might be stronger. Minn kota recomends 12" min from top of motor to water line to keep water disturbance and no cavitation etc. Good Luck ps watch a drift boat guide trip do a river run on youtube. Toons operate and fish just like guided double-ended drift boats on river runs. Strip your xt back to stock, gets some fins, use them oars, and go on a river run fishing trip. I'd imagine it would just be a bit less stable the more weight you have on there. I doubt it'd sink or anything unless there was a LOT of extra weight. I'd bet they have those limits posted on there for liability reasons so if something goes wrong and you got hurt, the company would just say "Well you weren't supposed to put that much weight on there! I fit it into the back of my CRV, and I've heard of folks fitting it into a normal trunk. Definitely don't need a pickup when it's all broken down. The extra pvc on the frame makes it a bit more bulky, but it should fit in the SUV no problem. As for assembly/disassembly time, it probably takes 20 or 30 minutes to unpack, put together, inflate, and gear up before getting on the water. I'm generally not in a hurry tho, so that could probably be cut down a bit if you hustle!

    You won't be disappointed! I've seen many awesome mods to put the motor in the front and I don't doubt how nice it'd be in some situations. I am not too terribly bothered by turning around halfway to steer, and I am rarely looking to move and fish at the same time(Minus trolling, which I normally just row backwards to do). The weight distribution is a tiny bit back-heavy, but when standing and fishing it balances out well. My main concern would be when fly fishing. The foot pegs and pontoons themselves can often tangle with the extra fly line, so having a whole motor and mount would make things even worse. If I add a front mount, it'll have to follow the same vein as the other mounts and be completely removable and pack-able. I'd just use the back mount on fly fishing days and the front mount other times. Hope this was helpful!
