Roy Orbison & Johnny Cash: "Oh, Pretty Woman" Live on The Johnny Cash Show 1969

Музыка

Johnny Cash joins Roy Orbison on the song "Oh, Pretty Woman" for Johnny's TV show! The two met in 1955 on Roy's radio show. Both were on Sun Records in Memphis and in the band the "Class of '55" with Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis.

It's become a time of computer-generated music(?), with groups fronted by people who can't sing. Country music was one of the few holdouts, but now we are beginning to see Country-rap with the younger generation, so I'm afraid it's only a matter of time. Truly sad.

And this was filmed around a year after the fire. From what I've read, Johnny was a great help during that period in Roy's life. He bought the land the house used to be on and planted an orchard there. I think John Carter Cash married Roy Jr. and his wife, too.

@@bradhuskers Elvis certainly did not destroy Roy in any musical way. Roy had a much higher range and wrote many of his own songs. In fact, there is a famous story in which he was offered an Orbison style song and admitted that Roy could cover the notes better. Not to say that one is better than the other, as that is plain foolish in any form of art, but very few had Orbison's range... period. I think the song in question may have been "In Dreams." Listen to that song... I mean, really... listen to that song. Although, I certainly will give Presley a nod for the end of Maria's Her Name!"

@@robertpierson8206 Stop embarrassing yourself. In 1960, Roy was on his way to record "only the lonely", but stopped to offer the song to elvis, because at this time in elvis's career, his power and range were equal with Roy's. Elvis's "it's now or never" "surrender" etc...showcased his strong vocals in the early 60's. Roy knew this and thought that his song would be perfect for elvis. But it wasn't meant to be due to scheduling conflicts. Point being? Is that your low IQ caused you to display your stupidity in here. Elvis presley actually arranged several of his critically acclaimed gospel recording studio sessions. That alone speaks volumes about elvis's artistry. Here's another fact lost on a low IQ weak minded sheep like you. Roy lived decades longer than elvis, yet failed to equal the tremendous amount of critically acclaimed recordings as elvis. In a very very short career, elvis's critically acclaimed body of work in the recording studio, DWARFED Roy's. Despite Roy living longer. Elvis's body of work was in more genres of music as well. Elvis was light years more diverse than Roy. Just the sheer soul depth and diversity of elvis destroys Roy. At the end of the day, roy lived longer and still failed to match the sheer magnitude of critically acclaimed recordings. That speaks volumes. Ella Fitzgerald is another example of an artist far greater than Roy was. Ella Fitzgerald didn't write lyrics. Yet like a true iconic artist, she created masterpieces in the recording studio. Your low IQ prevents you from getting that reality. You are one poorly educated sheep.

@@robertpierson8206 I laughed at your first low IQ comment. Quote, Elvis certainly did not destroy Roy in any musical way" End quote. LMFAO LMFAO I laughed hard. Then felt sorry for your parents and kids. Two iconic artists come to mind. Ella Fitzgerald Elvis presley. Neither wrote lyrics. Yet BOTH destroyed Roy when it. Came to their critically acclaimed bodies of work in the recording studio. The sheer magnitude of their recordings, DWARFS Roy's Ella Fitzgerald's interpretations of the great American songbooks, are critically acclaimed masterpieces. The writers of those songs could NEVER equal the level of artistry that Ella brought to life in the recording studio. Not even close. Jerry lieber and mike stoller, two Jewish boys from NY, NEVER could've brought the artistry to the lyrics they put down. Had Roy's schedule lined up with elvis's in 1960, Roy would've handed elvis another blockbuster hit. In 1960, elvis's vocals were as strong as anyone's in the music industry at that time. And "only the lonely" would've been knocked out of the park! But it wasn't meant to be. However, your notion that elvis couldn't handle Roy's songs? IS STUPIDITY on your part, at a level seldom seen. You are very poorly educated.

I love Cash.....but it's clear Roy has an unbelievably fantastic voice. Cash is like Dylan....excellent writing material but not such spectacular voices. But it can be overlooked because the songs they wrote and their ability to combine that with playing good instrumentals was legendary. Not saying they couldn't sing at all, but compared to others...there's just no comparison. Orbison could do all 3 and that's just fantastic.

Love this performance. It shows two amazing artists at the height of their careers singing a great song. And it's not the 'wrong key', it's just a different one. How can it be that wrong if it's Roy's song with him singing it. Anyway, I don't really consider this a full performance, I like to think of it of an 'unplugged' session between two of the greatest singers the world has ever known, just enjoying performing and each other's company!
