@Yellow Joe negative! PRIME Roy Jones Jr. is the most advanced boxer to this date. Just was never meant to be a heavyweight. He maxes his body out. That's why he said he would never advise anyone to do that again. This man transcended like 4-5 weight classes. The body ain't meant to be manipulated that way. It can only take so much. He was really legit 50-0 technically

Thank you. 100% accurate summation. Roy was pure talent. Never fundamentally or technically sound but he was the most naturally gifted boxer whos ever lived
He just said the most important thing in boxing that coaches don't even tell you. The guy controlling the distance by moving back and around the opponent is the one dictating when exchanges happen or don't
@scraw3

You guys are right. This is the movement I implement for defense when I spar. If you use your feet to control the distance then you ultimately end up controlling the outcome of the fight. This I also learned from my Jeet kune do footwork training in the 90's

Wondering if they know how truly great this man was?
Have you ever noticed the most gifted and successful athletes of their respective sport never become great trainers/coaches/managers? Many times, you can't teach what comes naturally to a gifted athlete to the masses, which is why there's the GOATS, and then there's everyone else...

@@georgeejones6581 nope you move the back foot first when moving back and the front foot first when moving forward. But in moving the back foot back you are of course pushing the floor with thr front foot. Backwards running is amazing training for such, especially using the hip flexors.

Roy Jones, Jr gives his tips on defense. Tip 1: be the fastest man alive inside the ring
Lol funny enough, around year 3 of my 19 year boxing journey. I learned what Roy mentioned here by playing 2D fighting games. There’s typically a dash forward and backwards In games like street fighter and even tekken. I used to use that a lot to create openings after opponents attacks. I thought to myself “ I wonder if this would work in the ring” and the rest was history.
Jones is soo smart. Learning from anyone who he can. Top mind.
It’s so humbling to watch those young men soak up that knowledge. 👊🏾
That shit was DOPE n they was LISTENING u can tell

This is solid instruction from one of the greatest to ever do it. There are a lot of other factors involved, but boxing is basically a chess match between the feet.
They are all in a trance as they get a boxing lesson from a boxing Legend
Even now, the way he moves @0:50 is otherworldly, like it's sped up footage... These lads are in the presence of a true great and it shows.
Roy Jones Jr was 1 of the greatest. He just loved Boxing more than himself & hence why He refused 2retire. His Ego got the Best of him. We all thought we were gonna Live Forever at 1pt in time or another and then along comes Antonio Tarver.
No one beat Roy jones jr but himself he accomplished so much not just in one weight class but multiple. Crowned king in multiple weights just shoulda of retired but his love for the sport kept him in it and no one including Roy is going to avoid Father Time. Truly a wonder to see this man fight

@@csjs74 you don’t block punches with your feet. you move your feet to get out of range
Roy one of the best to ever do it
Word.he's right. And if you can punch out of that you get some of Roy Jones's highlights. Real punchers will punch through your guard up top. Look at all of Mike Tyson's victims. . Your hands can be up there but some guys knock you out through your own hands. But if you can slip in counter even big punchers can't find you to hit. And every time they try they get touched up.

Facts!!
The same rules apply to basketball players with great ball handling ability. It’s not the hand or foot speed that make them hard to guard it’s their mastery of footwork. In essence, Champ is speaking on the mastery of the basics and fundamentals of boxing defense, but it applies to any sport.

"Y'all musta Forgot"!
Professor Jones 🙂...
He’s partially right. A young man loses his legs in his 30’s and if he doesn’t have great head movement he’ll struggle in his later years. This is why Jones spent most of his fights on the canvas in his later years and guys like Mayweather, Tony, and Hopkins fought well in their later years due to having great head movement.
@kingbucketz182
11 ай бұрын
You fight for as long as those guys fought, you start understanding safe zones and punch probably based on position. In other words… you’re able to easily predict what punches will come out based on what position you’re sitting in. Veterans live off stuff like that and they can, because someone like a prime Roy was a complete anomaly. Bernard Hopkins went the rest of his whole career without ever facing anything close to the speed and athletic ability of Roy. Yeah great hand speed will dominate head movement all day, but there aren’t many guys with that level of hand speed.
True for the small movements, but when Roy, Ali, Sugar Ray. And every other great mover, use the front foot first to move backwards. It's something that they naturally do when they have to move very fast and also helps you move further from your opponent. Go and watch there footwork. For all you skeptics.
@periechontology

Yes we know that (basic Boxing) but your back leg is your rudder in a fight
@kingbucketz182
10 ай бұрын
Push off the front foot, but the back foot always moves first. Otherwise you’ll just be walking backwards.
Bad boy
Великий боксер!
Idk, they're ALL defense to me. Moving the feet, slipping, bobbing & weaving, feints, changing angles. Also isn't it easier to turn defense into offense (counter-punch) by slipping & bobbing vs back pedalling? Back pedalling gets u out of range, but then u also can't reach your opponent. 🤷🏾♂️
Been watching boxing for years and he's the best iv ever seen
É a lenda falou ta falado
Да!... как же он порхал в своë время. эх, были времена! 💪😎
He is saying to fight off of the back foot, a term that was common even to a TV audience in decades past. Of course, that means that you are really pushing off the front foot to go backwards.
Professor Jones
This is like Michael Jordan trying to teach people how to jump. His talent was just out of this world 🌎
As Basic it is it is "The Footwork" and Stance ...that Bruce Lee and Ali Remembering was by the Way Realy Remarkable ...Both are the Key Holders of a Superior Style ... G.O.A.T
Funny how pro fighters keep giving props to Bruce Lee while KZread armchair experts are always dissing him and calling him an actor. Nobody is even asking Roy about Lee, he just randomly brings him up while teaching young upcoming boxers about defense.
I hope they picked up what the Legend was putting down!!!!!!!!!!!
