    Roy jones need to sit down somewhere, he was not that good to me. I bet in his mind he thinks he's was as good as sugar ray or marvin hagler. He's sadly mistaken.

    Bruh, not gonna lie. This dude be speaking fast and doesn't sound all that articulate sometimes so I was skeptical haha I already know he's a legend but most aren't good teachers. I've seen like 3 little 30 sec videos over the past week of him teaching and no lie it has helped my game SO much! That one video where he's talking about your defense is your back foot was exactly what I needed!

    Roy Jones Jr was 1 of the greatest. He just loved Boxing more than himself & hence why He refused 2retire. His Ego got the Best of him. We all thought we were gonna Live Forever at 1pt in time or another and then along comes Antonio Tarver.

    This is solid instruction from one of the greatest to ever do it. There are a lot of other factors involved, but boxing is basically a chess match between the feet.

    I remember 21 years ago begging my grandmum to let me eneter her bedroom at 5am (Polish time zone) on the weekend and let me watch and record Roy's fight on vhs so I can have some materials to studdy boxing. Internet through modems was fu***g expansive back then. All the best to everyone!🙂

    Lol funny enough, around year 3 of my 19 year boxing journey. I learned what Roy mentioned here by playing 2D fighting games. There’s typically a dash forward and backwards In games like street fighter and even tekken. I used to use that a lot to create openings after opponents attacks. I thought to myself “ I wonder if this would work in the ring” and the rest was history.

    He’s partially right. A young man loses his legs in his 30’s and if he doesn’t have great head movement he’ll struggle in his later years. This is why Jones spent most of his fights on the canvas in his later years and guys like Mayweather, Tony, and Hopkins fought well in their later years due to having great head movement.

  • @kingbucketz182
    @kingbucketz182 Жыл бұрын

    You fight for as long as those guys fought, you start understanding safe zones and punch probably based on position. In other words… you’re able to easily predict what punches will come out based on what position you’re sitting in. Veterans live off stuff like that and they can, because someone like a prime Roy was a complete anomaly. Bernard Hopkins went the rest of his whole career without ever facing anything close to the speed and athletic ability of Roy. Yeah great hand speed will dominate head movement all day, but there aren’t many guys with that level of hand speed.

    The same rules apply to basketball players with great ball handling ability. It’s not the hand or foot speed that make them hard to guard it’s their mastery of footwork. In essence, Champ is speaking on the mastery of the basics and fundamentals of boxing defense, but it applies to any sport.

    Idk, they're ALL defense to me. Moving the feet, slipping, bobbing & weaving, feints, changing angles. Also isn't it easier to turn defense into offense (counter-punch) by slipping & bobbing vs back pedalling? Back pedalling gets u out of range, but then u also can't reach your opponent. 🤷🏾‍♂️

    Funny how pro fighters keep giving props to Bruce Lee while KZread armchair experts are always dissing him and calling him an actor. Nobody is even asking Roy about Lee, he just randomly brings him up while teaching young upcoming boxers about defense.
