What are the 2 boxers he mentioned? Ali and someone else
Boxing at his best
Damn I love that explanation.
Cool
Roy jones need to sit down somewhere, he was not that good to me. I bet in his mind he thinks he's was as good as sugar ray or marvin hagler. He's sadly mistaken.
Bruh, not gonna lie. This dude be speaking fast and doesn't sound all that articulate sometimes so I was skeptical haha I already know he's a legend but most aren't good teachers. I've seen like 3 little 30 sec videos over the past week of him teaching and no lie it has helped my game SO much! That one video where he's talking about your defense is your back foot was exactly what I needed!
Roy Jones Jr was 1 of the greatest. He just loved Boxing more than himself & hence why He refused 2retire. His Ego got the Best of him. We all thought we were gonna Live Forever at 1pt in time or another and then along comes Antonio Tarver.
This is solid instruction from one of the greatest to ever do it. There are a lot of other factors involved, but boxing is basically a chess match between the feet.
Roy been KOd too many times to reach defense lol
Real
Roy's dropping gems on that young boy. Great defense is all about the footwork.
Roy Jones talking to NPCs. In all fairness id be silently staring and listening to him as well.
Idk what it is but it’s something about his Voice and Tone that makes it sound so Satisfying to listen to

I remember 21 years ago begging my grandmum to let me eneter her bedroom at 5am (Polish time zone) on the weekend and let me watch and record Roy's fight on vhs so I can have some materials to studdy boxing. Internet through modems was fu***g expansive back then. All the best to everyone!🙂
Jones is soo smart. Learning from anyone who he can. Top mind.
Lol funny enough, around year 3 of my 19 year boxing journey. I learned what Roy mentioned here by playing 2D fighting games. There’s typically a dash forward and backwards In games like street fighter and even tekken. I used to use that a lot to create openings after opponents attacks. I thought to myself “ I wonder if this would work in the ring” and the rest was history.
He’s partially right. A young man loses his legs in his 30’s and if he doesn’t have great head movement he’ll struggle in his later years. This is why Jones spent most of his fights on the canvas in his later years and guys like Mayweather, Tony, and Hopkins fought well in their later years due to having great head movement.
You fight for as long as those guys fought, you start understanding safe zones and punch probably based on position. In other words… you’re able to easily predict what punches will come out based on what position you’re sitting in. Veterans live off stuff like that and they can, because someone like a prime Roy was a complete anomaly. Bernard Hopkins went the rest of his whole career without ever facing anything close to the speed and athletic ability of Roy. Yeah great hand speed will dominate head movement all day, but there aren’t many guys with that level of hand speed.
Слушайте внимательно, ребята! Пока легенды ходят среди нас! И делится с нами опытом
Uhm, defense was never Jones' Jr's thing.. he was supremely gifted as an athlete, his defense was his biggest flaw and it showed when he began to age and lose that athletic ability
Roy always spot on
Elite level stuff. This goes over 99% of watchers' heads. This is TRUE boxing greatness - who has the most setups in their library. And this guy invented some against the best guy in the biz at the time. This is what truly unlocked his confidence.
This nigga wouldn't know.
GREAT JEWELS DROP!! wish I could see the whole view look like only buddy in the black bubble jac was soaking it in!!
Hope these kids recognize they’ve been blessed by a living legend. This is something to tell to the grandkids. They’ll say grandpa is senile and lying and order you to take a nap. But you got the videotape for posterity’s sake. Roy Jones, Jr, one of the greatest of all time. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
The same rules apply to basketball players with great ball handling ability. It’s not the hand or foot speed that make them hard to guard it’s their mastery of footwork. In essence, Champ is speaking on the mastery of the basics and fundamentals of boxing defense, but it applies to any sport.
I wish I could hear this one better. Back foot is defense?
Man Roy be droppin jewels on em! 💎
Absolute masterclass from a ring general!
Thats the kind of defense Marvin Cook talks about. Also hes says youre slipping, ducking leaning, your body is still there. Dont be there.
Idk, they're ALL defense to me. Moving the feet, slipping, bobbing & weaving, feints, changing angles. Also isn't it easier to turn defense into offense (counter-punch) by slipping & bobbing vs back pedalling? Back pedalling gets u out of range, but then u also can't reach your opponent. 🤷🏾♂️
Man definitely knows his shit he’s been on of my favorite boxers of all times. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙏🏽❤
He genuinely loves what he does.
Foot work is the key
Roy in his prime was on Demon mode 👊🏾🔥
Funny how pro fighters keep giving props to Bruce Lee while KZread armchair experts are always dissing him and calling him an actor. Nobody is even asking Roy about Lee, he just randomly brings him up while teaching young upcoming boxers about defense.
Roy Was Amazing!!!🥊🤩💪🏾
Definitely better listen to this man here, I’m tellin U! Salute! 🫡
Couldn't argue against him being the best ever. He seems to drop off a bit when they were able to test for that steroid he was on though.
English people are like “Anyone understand him?” Lol
..this lesson really was the good stuff Roy Jones forever😅
Sugar Ray Leonard and Mayweather mastered that step back defense. Shakur Stevenson is now mastering this defense as well. Gives you time to gauge and measure your opponent's movement and offense👍🏾
Amateur superwelter '88 Olympics finalist...from middle to heavyweight world champion as a pro. I remember him climbing the ring with 6/7 belts to defend. Legend.
Can someone explain ?
Roy Jones is such a cool guy
Roy is in the top 5 best ever lived boxers imho at this point in time 2023
Roy Jones Jr. Is The G.O.A.T And One Of The BEST FIGHTERS EVER! Hands Down! 👍🏾🥊
