Ronald Reagan: Small Government a Smoke Screen for Racism and Smashing Unions - Host, Paul Jay 4/5

One of Reagan's geniuses was to convince people to vote against their own self-interest. In the name of lower taxes and the Cold War, he expanded investment in "defense" systems that benefited the oligarchs who brought him to power. Matt Tyrnauer, director of “The Reagans” on Showtime, joins Paul Jay on theAnalysis.news. This interview was originally published on February 17, 2021.

Chomsky explained it effectively a long time ago: "small government" is a synonym, for small democracy, small citizen involvement, but big oligarchy, because the "defect" of public institutions is they tend to impose nasty constraints on the powerful, like having to stand in elections, hold hearings, disclose their activities to the public, etc , which then runs the risk of the public objecting and trying to change or stop them. But corporate oligarchies are free from all or most such "defects".

One of the best books I read about reagan was Sleep Walking Through History by the late Haynes Johnson. Very telling!!!!!!!

The sight of that creep always turned my stomach. He was a meat puppet for the oligarchs.

Never watched it, but here again you can see how TV messes people up. People are enamored by such figures and forget it's all just a show and mostly fiction, yet.... I quit watching TV over 15 years ago, I haven't missed it for a second.

I still regularly run into nut jobs who think Reagan was the greatest thing for the country since sliced bread.

@~12:00 Unfun fact: During his 1980 presidential campaign, Reagan said he supported PATCO's, the air traffic controller union, desire for increased wages and better working conditions. In turn, PATCO endorsed Reagan's campaign. Excruciating suffering from Alzheimer's was better than Reagan deserved. Solidarity forever ✊

Alzheimer's is no fun, have seen it destroy many people. But I agree, he should have had it way harder and way worse. Similar, I can't understand why henry k. made it to over 100, he should have never been 85 years ago...

He seems to think Clinton was working for the people and I think that most of what Clinton did was for the corptocracy. I blame Reagan and Clinton for most of the problems we now live with ftheir re-regulation.@@oscarwilde5473
