As the world watched Thursday night, President Biden held his first solo press conference this year, after hosting a NATO conference in which he accidentally referred to Ukrainian President Zelensky as Russian President Putin before quickly correcting himself. While speaking with reporters, Biden defended his record and vowed to “finish the job,” but at one point referred to Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.” As more Democrats continue to call for him to step aside, we host a roundtable discussion on Biden and Trump and the 2024 race, and the impact on U.S. foreign policy, with American Prospect executive editor David Dayen; longtime labor, racial justice and international activist Bill Fletcher Jr., co-founder of the Ukrainian Solidarity Network; and CodePink co-founder Medea Benjamin, co-author of the books NATO: What You Need to Know and War in Ukraine: Making Sense of a Senseless Conflict.

For the time being, I would stay away from index funds, mutual funds, and particular stocks. The best option available at the moment is a five percent fixed income. Set aside funds for when the market begins to recover significantly.

His cognition seems to get worse the older he becomes; which is a real puzzle to me, since the elderly are not known for their forgetfulness. People in their 80s are sharp, quick-witted and wise. If someone in their 80s cannot think as well as someone thirty years younger, then there must be something wrong. Everybody knows this.

Biden caught himself right away on Putin and even saying Trump, when he clearly meant Harris was evident in the rest of his response. I call my kids by each others names all the time. I know which one I'm talking to.

Of course they saw it. The only difference between now and before the debate is that their sense of self-importance has been thwarted by the removal of the mask of deniability which Biden committed at the debate. That's why they're so hellbent on getting him out of the campaign: he dared to show the world just how old he in fact was, refusing to play this game of pretending to be something the entire world knows and has always known. The media are clutching their pearls and trying to deny the will of the Democratic Party voter base because their sense of their viability has been wounded. The debate was less a haunting reveal of Biden's age than of a haunting reveal of the media's gaslighting campaign *about* his age that, after the debate, they could no longer uphold. Has anyone in the media apologized for the gaslighting? Of course not: they're too busy pretending that all of sudden Biden's age has been made apparent. But it's always been apparent. What's apparent now that wasn't before is the extent to which the media was willing to gaslight voters about Biden's age and now willing to completely disregard their will about the candidate they have already chosen knowing full well who they were voting for, which was the man we all saw at the debate. The voters have always known how old and ineffectual and compromised he is. Nothing has changed for them.

Reagan went on from there to win in 1984 (525 - 13) over Mondale, biggest landslide since FDR 2nd term when he won 523 -8. He served for almost 4.5 more years and gave the "Mr Gorbachev tear down this wall" speech. He died in 2004.

Comparing the president from early this year to now, I would have to say he had a serious health event, and almost nobody could complain about him getting behind Harris. My family has a family history of medical issues, most of which are one time events that either kill or debilitate. If a stroke or similar happens, I would hand off operation of our family business, or my family would remove me. We have done so before. Staying in when you are not at top form, when your job is caring for a small business, is one thing. Being the person who truly could get that mythical "3 AM phone call" saying Americans died is even beyond that.

He's the incumbent and has the best chance to beat the other guy. Why did the republicans nominate a guy who might be sentenced to prison in September? As for the 4 months, that's all he actually has to last. If he lasts to Nov 6 and wins then the VP can take over and we don't have a theocracy with a lunatic behind the pulpit.

Delighted? Putin is worried that the America's inept leadership is going to escalate into a nuclear war over Ukraine (on Russia's doorstep and 6 thousand miles away from the US). And the other reply was spot on, Putin would prefer a more stable far sighted leader he could work with to restore peace.

Medea Benjamin spoke very well here, particularly around the role of NATO. It's hard for me not to imagine that what is motivating Putin acting in this manner, is that he feels threatened by NATO encroachment and American militarism.

Putin in my opinion is no moral figure for emulation but I think it's important to weigh the policies and speeches aimed at him and any other leader who doesn't align with "American interest" and "democracy" to understand the kind of paranoia that they are operating from. I imagine Putin looks at Gaddafi and sees himself as next In line, we need to apply some accountability to how this country behaves under the reigns of both parties in respect to the countries we are meddling and making boogey men of.
