I think Omega make some really fantastic watches and you gotta buy them either pre owned or grey market or at a nice discount for it to be a decent deal. Omegas are for people that just want a really nice watch, not as an investment.

I find the Oyster Perpetual looks better with the green dots in my opinion. Adds something to the look, but i can see how it could easily turn someone off.

my choice for that shop would be 16570 & 14060M & 116400GV/non GV. They were all priced quite decently. The further u get away from tokyo, the better the price are, haha

Thanks! There was no problem with the box at exactly 26:42 (bottom left of screen) - period correct, and the pillow insert, which is how the sports models came. That's the one I got.

It looks like it's gone down from RRP over 2MM yen to 1.3MM yen in market price?Yep, I'm a Squadra World Chronograph owner too - being overhauled but was thinking of ditching and funding another Rolex. I didn't pay a crazy 2MM yen though, but if it's gone down in value, then may as well keep it. P.S. The girl at 33:53 is eyeing you :D.

Unfortunately, prices have changed quite a bit since this video was shot. But the good thing is that the Yen is pretty weak, so then exchange rate should be in your favor.

You going into the swatch store made me think, why don't you film some low end JDM only stuff? Like the casio oceanus line actually being sold retail, or an orient prestige shop , or any of the stores selling weird japanese pieces from the 90s on zenmarket. People obviously eat this up for rolex, and the only competition for lower end japanese showcase stuff is from gshockhighfashion, which he only did sparsely years ago (obviously only covering gshock). Just something to think about, not seeing many watch channel guys that live in japan and speak english, capitalize.

Thank you for these videos. Recently I’ve became really interested in watches including the histories of various brands and the technologies. Maybe because I’m nearing my 40s and it’s a sign that I’m getting old? Haha. Anyway I’d like to pick up a Rolex one of these days. I was going to pick up an Omega speedmaster professional the last time I was in Thailand for vacation but God has other plans for me and forced me to board my flight 30 minutes early unexpectedly while just going to pay for the watch while at the duty free airport shop. Should’ve seen the sad face of the clerk. Anyway thanks again for the videos. I’ve been to Japan last year and I loved my time there. Will go back again soon.

The old platinum dial YMs have the old style bracelet and clasp. They just don't live up to the current version craftsmanship and since they don't have a collectable nature the vintage versions are priced much lower.

I don't know. But that's a hard question; there're so many factors: condition, what generation Kermit, flat (fat) four or not, who's selling it. But if I were getting one, it would be as an investment/collection piece, and I wouldn't consider one without papers.

My suggestion is to look for the prices on similar year/condition and reduce about US$3000... just a rule of thumb that works for estimating what a shop would pay you.

I believe that not caring about the value now, later or in the past is part of being a true collector. I am not a fan of how these timepieces are now seen as "investments". You are a collector if you love what you own and you care about not only the material value of something but the story as well and history.

I don't see how ignoring the factor of value, or how your pieces will fare in the future, makes you any more or less of a collector. It's just one dynamic of collecting.

@@watchsymposium It is a dynamic of collecting and you are right in that considering such a factor is part of some collectors. I do not believe that it should be the primary or driving factor though. We all have our collecting journeys but for who I have seen as collectors, I do not think the investment or dollar value longterm made them the collector they are now.

Breitling resale values are abysmal. Will never own one again (and I bought one used). Rolex, AP, and PP are the only way to go. Even Omega resale is horrible.

Austin Daniels I’ve had it only 4 days now been wearing it all day and setting it down at night and we’re almost 1 minute slow. The previous owner said it was never service and is almost 15 years old.
30,000 for a steel watch I can’t justify it you actually paying for the name...
