I had a former co-worker who sent out emails with right-wing lies. I'd reply with evidence to disprove them. One day he wrote, "Yeah but it sounds true." The was a revelation to me. He (and they) don't want to hear the truth, they _want_ to be lied to. Look at the flak Fox caught for calling Arizona for Biden. Our country is in deep trouble when we have to debate facts.

As a sinner I know one simple fact. Christians ask God for forgiveness. Roger Stone instead asked trump for a pardon.

I’m so offended as a human being that I am assumed to be “Godless” because I am liberal. That I am assumed to be a communist or a Marxist or fascist simply because I am progressive. That I am not patriotic and that I “hate” our country because I don’t buy into the hate campaign and culture. I got baptized last year. It was a moving and beautiful experience in my life. It’s so hard for me to stay strong and not feel depressed and overwhelmed by this rhetoric. Praying pretty hard right now.

I’m a Christian but I believe that freedom of religion includes freedom from religion. Without judgment or persecution. Dem/Atheist here 👋 and you are absolutely right, Rev. This post did not "drive me crazy". But what DOES drive me crazy is the havoc/damage christo-fascists are causing. Even though I am an anti-theist as well, and I fight against (and am vehemently opposed to) religious priviledge/imposition, at the end of the day, as a Democrat, I WANT LIFE TO BE GOOD FOR EVERYBODY not just for me or my "team", and I vote accordingly! That's the freaking difference between us! But it seems that these "followers of christ" take pleasure in hurting (or think they are hurting) the other side. What a disgrace!

Ah, yes, that lovely scene with the preacher in the megachurch. Broadcast. "God asked me to give you a message." Preacher mugs for the audience. "A message? For me? The LORD... has a MESSAGE... FOR ME!"

The truth does often make people angry. That doesn't mean whatever makes people angry is the truth.

I can really feel your frustration Reverend Ed. As I prayed about my own frustration at this bold LIE, I could almost hear the voice of a strong Christian woman I once knew down in Houston. Ms Betty, as I knew her, would have said, "Don't worry your heart Ms Amy, he ain't nothin' but the devil." And that old fashioned phrase reduces this problem to the size of a roach we can squash on the floor of our minds. "He ain't nothin' but the devil" means he and his words are small, insignificant, in the face of our Lord, who is infinitely huge, all wise and all powerful. These words came from a lady who had faced down a lot of hate, much of it life-threatening. But anyways, she whispered those words to me when I prayed about it. Thank you Rev Ed, for standing up against this horrible man.

I am 74. Your story about Ms Betty captures the spirit of religious folk from the previous generation, that I knew. But also, my wife of 37 years passed away seven days ago , and her name was Betty she was a very christian woman. Some called her 'Miss Betty' as well. Your words helped me to release the tears needed to wash my heart. So I give thanks to you, and bless you, and your own loved ones as well!

I am the wife of an active duty military chaplain for 30 years and as a Christ follower, I am one of those who are being driven crazy by these sacrireligious things done by Trump and his supporters. I have been prayerfully seeking to find myself more in step with His presence and peace as I feel that I have lost much in this political battle. Clearly this was just performative as a mask to wear to play to the evangelical Christians T***p relies on for support. The sad part is, it does work (although not to the extent that he thinks it does). T***p violated all kinds of norms as well as laws in his tenure as president, and he definitely abused his pardon power by letting that sad excuse for a human being out of prison.

What makes me weep is the enormous number of American Christians who will be OK with this, who believe that DJT is God's annointed, sent to put "Godless liberals" in their place. 🙏

In my job (I'm now retired) I worked with a fairly prolific software developer who, in our last "catch-up, saying hi" conversation we got a bit into political topics a bit, and he mentioned how he knew Roger Stone fairly well and how he was a misunderstood fella and not a bad guy as the media makes him out to be. I've seen the documentary "Get me Roger Stone" and have seen many of his media interviews. I held the software developer in high regard... until that conversation occurred.

The funniest thing I have found as a Christian. If we follow Christ's words and love everyone that God does and the way his son taught us we will be happy no matter our lot in life. When you treat others with love and kindness without expecting a return you live a life of joy in his light. Any kindness returned is a gift and any rudeness ignored. I the amount of energy I wasted on getting the gratitude of others and was angered when it didn't come. I have found out that doing anything nice for another gives me joy. God bless everyone.

I find it mighty bold to use the lord that way. I personally would be a little worried that the lord will frown on things like that. They're so many things going on in this world and to think God is worried about U.S politics is crazy. And the only ones who will be driven crazy by what he says is people in his mind.

Ex president Trump's bad behavior is what brought me closer to Jesus. Watching how one man could stir up so much hate, bigotry, racism, and downright evil are the reasons I seek out the loving embrace of the Lord. I do not except how so many Christians chose to back a person who is the total opposite of Christianity. I am truly not a perfect Christian person, but with the loving embrace of the Lord and wonderful Christians such as yourself and this wonderful community, I feel blessed and accepted. 😊

That kind of advertising drives non-Christians "crazy" only to the extent that they believe that it will inspire people to support Trump. The "divine right of kings" used to be a thing... but it's not the same kind of thing as this. I'd be happy to see God's "endorsement" of Trump... with an appropriate-sized rubber stamp.

It saddens me to see how easily so many of God's followers can be manipulated by appeals to their darker emotions of selfish pride, spiteful envy, and vengeful wrath as their path to the promised land.
