I've watched this video a few times now, and I just realized that the original title of your grimoire, "Why the Tree Loves the Ax," is super ironic, because in the process of "ruining" (improving) that book, you've given new life to the tree almost by proxy. Suck on that, ax.

my first grimoire was made by me with recycled paper made by me. it has information in it to do with correspondances, rune info, sabats, info on the Norse Pantheon. I have pasted over mistakes, scribbled them out, put crossed out lines through them, and ripped pages out and added pages. Its all part of the story of my book. It makes it as personal as me. its dotted with art all over the place,... mainly drawings.

Molly, I found you about 2 years ago. Every time I feel unsure of creating my book of shadows/grimoire or book of mirrors I rewatch this video. I have now watched it at least 3 or 4 times. I just love you and you make everything better. You make it okay to not do things “the right”way. I have been trying to find my way and my path for years now. And I’m still unsure and self doubting about if I’m doing things “right”. I just performed my very first uncrossing bath and I am in the midst of some candle magic to help in that area as well. I am trying not to think I didn’t do it right and remember that everyone practices differently and that it is a learning experience. I just really hope it works and this will help set me on the right path and to help me stay positive and have this year continue to be great and magical. I feel like there is s weight on me, I loose interest in things I love and I get frustrated and angry a lot. I have been working on fixing this for years now, and am just now at a point that I can feel like I am actively trying and exploring my true self and my purpose in this life. So thank you Molly, thank you for reminding me that nothing has to be done “right and perfect” I will find my way, I will break whatever negative spiral that I am in (and possibly my family is in) I will be happy and find my purpose and spirituality and true and authentic self.

baby witch here, i'm sure plenty of people already do this but what i plan to do is start mine in a big sketchbook. i have this big leather tree of life embossed book cover that i've had for years. i attempted to start my spiritual practice back then but i had no idea how to go about it and no one around me was exactly safe to ask about such things. i began reading tarot at the start of the pandemic which is where my interest was rekindled and now i have a small altar filled with trinkets and tools and crystals, and even if i haven't offically started my spell craft, i have at least created a space that is sacred, and i have solved the issue of fancy book fear, at least for myself. the dollar store is a great place to start for cheap stationary, theres lots of art supplies, notepad, and coloured pens, so go crazy

Whenever I feel stuck and as if there is no hope for me and the world it just revives my soul to be able to watch Molly talking especially in this one. I think it is just the most beautiful thing that firstly a person like her even exists but secondly she decided to share her light with us on this platform. So much inspiration she gives to me and probably many other persons. I hope she REALLY knows how much she just being herself means to a lot of people or at least myself! Ok enough cheesyness haha I just had to write that now at my 20th time watching this video in 2020 lol

i had to change my grimoire to a notebook, because I just couldn't write on my fancy book, as you said. I was totally overwhelmed by the importance of the object itself. after I changed it to a simpler version, I've felt so much closer to it! all this ~old witch of the woods~ aesthetic is something that I felt almost obligated to follow, but it has nothing to do with my path -- I'm totally urban. once I realized it was not clicking for me, my witchcraft improved so much... you are an inspiration for me, cause I feel you don't buy this witch aesthetic too, and this is something so rare to find haha keep rocking, girl :*

This is definitely one of my favourite videos on KZread, so creative and inspirational but most of all is made by a very creative and confident person giving very interesting tips for those who want to make a grimoire/book of shadows or just an art book but afraid to mess things up. Eventually the only limit is what we put during a creative process. But most of all I love Molly's confidence and energy. There are plenty of good videos out there about many topics but only a few people have the ability to "captivate" the viewer. 🙏🏼💟💁‍♀️🔥🌈

I frequently return to this video because I love everything you talk about with grimoires. It's actually because of this video that I call my own book my "grimoire". One thing that I think this video really did for me was cement my understanding of my magic. I am an illustrator and an author. (Not published yet! Just now finishing school and shopping around!) And I do a lot of intentional spell work in the kitchen and in my garden and warding around my home and workplace. But here's some nutty thing I never considered: My art is perhaps my strongest form of magic! It's amazing that never occurred to me. The two things that made me believe in magic were thus, I have some kind of future sight. Not deja vu, oh no. Not like that. I have dreams of things that will happen. I record them in my dream journal, with my other dreams, which I use for my writings, and sometimes, the stuff I dream about is too real. And it's weird; it sticks out to me once I've written it that it doesn't belong. Could be days later, could be a month or several years... but that thing WILL HAPPEN _exactly_ as I dreamt it, unless I change it. The best way I can describe that feeling is staring at a still pond and intentionally dropping my hand or a stone into a very specific place and disrupting the whole flow. And I feel it change, kinda like sticking your head underwater and discovering you could breathe this new atmosphere of water. This distinct feeling that you have changed something and cannot go back to how it was before. It's not scary, but it's... a singular physical and spiritual feeling. This has, on occasion, saved a friendship and even a friend's life once. The other thing was that I met a ghost. Which proved to me that energy is real. That there is strange things in this world science can't explain. So when I watched your video something sort of clicked to me. I should keep all my magic in one book and it's not a silly toy or performative, it's like a diary, like a reminder of self-rituals which help me keep my life on track. It's like a sketchbook! Which I always seem to treat with both flippant humor and a spiritual adoration. So I am taking an old book I've had for a very long time on botany and I am gessoing over the pages and starting my grimoire. My dreams, my self-rituals, my sketches that are only for my well-being, my recipes for "get-well-soon" food and New Year's good luck dishes, my written wards against people who might want to hurt me, my plants and their growing seasons and my personal uses for them... all these things that I kept track of separately that I realized are _part of my magic and I just never noticed._ So, thank you so much.

I carry your advice with me. It has been so liberating to give myself permission to fuck up. I still do my best, but I no longer dread the idea that I might mess up. Ok. I do, but it doesn't stop me. Because I will mess up sometimes. And not everything is as easy to fix as my journal. I can't glue a new picture over everything. But so much of the mistakes that I make in life can be remedied. And that is reassuring. So thanks.

There is a part of me that wants to binge all of your content immediately and another part that wants to slowly savor them one a day. I've literally had this one opened and paused for almost an hour now while I drink the hot tea and eat dark chocolate I was going to have while watching. I have to tell myself that I CAN watch it again. And I probably will. 🤩

Such a kick ass video!! Thank you for inspiring me! The last Book of Shadows I created was when I was 11 and I still have it. Back then I had that childlike energy and wonder, which put so much magic and love into that book. It still has herbs and dried flowers all over in it and smells like incense. After watching your video I have all kinds of awesome ideas running through my mind, I'm going to dig out my old book and get myself back in that state of yummy creativity and magic! Thanks love!

".....you're afraid to fuck up your scrapbook"! Genius woman :-). Got to admit, I'm particularly bad at this - totally anal about books and therefore everything has to be perfect. From the first mark of the pen, to the way the book looks, feels, smells....honestly it's a very real problem! lol! Terrific video Molly - thank you. :-)

I have watched this video countless times now! This is the video that really helped me be able to start my grimoire! Old and spooky is not so much my personal creative style, and this sparked the fire that I needed to start creating again. I shared this video on my Tumblr a few weeks ago because I figured if it helped me that much, surely others need to see it too, and apparently they did because it has become my most reblogged and liked post on my blog! So THANK YOU for all of the inspiration and originality you have brought to this!!

I'm someone who has always struggled with pristine blank books with beautiful covers, whether for drawing or journals. People like myself are very silly to care so much about ruining a hardback book because we can't undo it and move pages around and reorganize it. Thank you for this video, you pull out all those silly hangups and poke fun, which some of us really need. I feel confident about going forward with my own book. You are right, it isn't just a record, it should serve as inspiration. It should be there to help us work things out, be a companion, reveal truths to us as we put into it what we need to. It is alive as we are alive, and flawed as we are flawed.

Your BOS and art in general are amazing! I find myself not able to be as "free" with my art as I used to be, I do more realistic sketches now and less found object/mixed media art. I would love to see you do more videos on this subject, including your BOS, candles, altar creations, and would REALLY love if you had ideas for prompts that you could post periodically. I hope everything is going great for you and looking forward to every video!
