    I fly the R22 in RL, so here are some notes what you did "wrong" or what we do different: 2:48 : Normally you turn the Alternator on, after engaging the clutch 4:50 : Don´t open the throttle, we leave it fully idle (at 5:45 when engaging the clutch we assist the engine a bit by opening the throttle slowly to stable at 55% until the clutch warning light goes off, then we go for 75% for warm up) 6:40 : Normally you start the magneto test when all engine instruments are in the green 6:55 : At this point when you´re done with the magneto test you want to check the Carb heat and look if the "CAT.TEMP" rise/drop and the RPM slightly drops. Thereafter you do the "Sprag clutch check" by turning the throttle quick to idle and see if the needles split and then again up to stay at 75% One of the last checks you would do just before takeoff is the warning horn test at 100% RPM, just pull a bit on the collective and slowly close your throttle. At about 97% RPM the horn should be sound up. For the shutdown you just go back to 75% until the "CYL.HD.TEMP." doesnt move anymore, then close your throttle (go full idle) and disengage clutch, wait 30 sec and then just pull the mixture. But over all you did a great job and a nice explanation. The notes I have are just for people who want to do it "As Real As It Gets" 😁

    Also, for realism, the yellow band on the tach at 5:45 is a special operating condition notation. For warm up this rpm range should be avoided because it adds extra wear on the tail rotor shaft do to vibration from frequency resonance

    Yeah, it’s really good. They even got the circuit breakers under the panel next to the fuel sumps right. This, with a PFT Puma and VR is the closest thing to real you can get with a home simulator right now.

    Not bad for a fixed wing pilot, not bad at all!! From memory you have about 1.5 seconds to dump the collective when the engine fails else all of your rotor RPM (NR) vanishes. When entering the autorotation you can aft cyclic to gain more valuable NR. While in the autorotation keep the NR in the green, raising collective if required. Not that anyone would mind if you overspeed the rotor head but the machine and the humans inside survive the emergency landing..

  • @janvogel9719

    @janvogel9719

    10 ай бұрын

    Yes, the POH is very much emphasizing what you said - since there is very little inertia in the rotor, it is very important to immediately bottom the collective and even practice autorotations have gone bad because the IP failed to correct a students slow response within the super short time span.

  • @Belatu42

    It sounds scary, but it’s really 1.5 secs if you try to maintain normal flight. Then you will lose rotor rpm to the point of not being able to recover…but as soon as the engine rpm slows the nose pitches forward. You really have to do the wrong things to be in trouble…

    jan, i wished there was more of a "floating" experience in x-plane. especially for helicopters that are much exposed to every tiny air flow pushing the nose around. real life feeling is sometimes like you "swim" in the air, and it's not that the tail rotor is that much in synch so you wouldn't experience some wobbling here and there. It is this float on soap that transfers the feeling of being off ground and exposed to the elements, making you more careful on your inputs and behaviour. should feel like: "You could actually die when falling from sky". Not exactly sure what the yet missing component in x-plane yet is, maybe the wind model, maybe equations on inertia. really not sure. i avoid having discussions with Austin about this actually as he'd never accept other oppinions. But we are still far from the real as long as is see planes jumping or spinning around like there was no mass and helicopters flying on rails like there were no air movements. there are so many superexperts in aviation, and that makes it so hard to have constructive discussions. i mean the smaller the plane, the slower you fly, the more inconsequent your velocity vector becomes, right? a typical experience in cessnas, robinsons, and hundreds others. Not saying things are wrong, all is say is: The simming model seems incomplete or in some matters inaccurate or too stabile. circulating airmass may easily outcalculate a cessna's prop power and play with your velocity vector, same for helicopters, the lighter the more the inconsistancy of flight path. please keep this discussing at laminar, it won't help refusing such aspects. every flight student's first flight hour expierience is the moment of first take off when they realize how much a cessna's nose actually travels sideways after leaveing ground, independant from weather, a balancing act like walking on a rope from tree to tree. i am aware of some settings in planemaker dealing with counterforces, e.g. when accelerating, but this is not exactly the point i am brining up. maybe it's as simple as giving air an actual life and not calculate it as a digit 1.? i don't know, you are the experts. maybe you find out. thanks for reading.

    Great video, I love the default R22. But there are some obvious mistakes in the way the systems work and I am surprised this hasn't been tested / mentioned by IRL pilots and corrected. The clutch light is a perfect exemple of this. It is not at all working the way it is in the video.

    nice vid! I'm also a heli fan on xp. But I have two questions, in RL, does the cyclic have centering force, like the joystick with spring on our desks? If you pitch/roll a bit with the cyclic and release your hand, does it stay where it is, or it is going back to "center position"? If the cyclic in RL heli doesn't have the centering force, do you modify your desktop joystick when you flying in xp? It's not only my hand/arm pain when holding the joystick, the spring also makes me hard to make tiny precise movements

  • @janvogel9719

    @janvogel9719

    9 ай бұрын

    I have a Virpil Controls joystick that has a centering force, but it isn´t brutal, so it is easy to hold an offset without getting tired and movement (especially around the center position) is very accurate. I believe the real helicopter has a slight centering force (otherwise the stick would just tip over when you don´t hold it), but in most helicopters (not the R22) you can reset the center position, so that the stick will now sit a bit "sideways" if you release it.

    Just updated X-Plane 12 to the latest version 06 and what a disappointment. I was under the impression 06 was to take care of lighting issues, The instrument panel is so dark on the Cessna 172 it's unusable. Talk about flying in the dark on a VFR day. Ever try changing the comm frequency from standby to active, it doesn't work. I've been waiting for the past 9 months for these issues to be corrected. A BIG disappointment Mr Myer.

    Great video congratulations! The explanations are very clear, but I never manage to take off correctly, yet I do exactly as explained in the video; It's not a hardware problem, I have good equipment including the physical pedalboard. If I understand correctly, while I increase the collective up to about 15% I give the pedal a little to the left; the helicopter oscillates a little, so I lower the collective completely and apply the pedal a little more to the left; gradually I start to give collective again and then the helicopter should rise a little to about 20%? Is there any advice for me watching this video kzread.info7Q5_jjDwuWw ? I hope the axis viewer plugin that shows how I move the commands can help.
