LYRICS:
And then I wished you away
I lost those memories
Of the days we weren’t
Forsaken, why don’t we
Just relax our eyes
and fall into a dream
let it take my mind
Where owls know my name
And it gets colder every day
Lost in eternity’s grasp
Withdrawing further from what we have known
This mentality that we’ve built;
It’s breaking down
Still running away from it, you’re still dreaming
Still hoping that there’s something that may be worth seeking
You’ve wasted all that you have been given
Still hoping to find a way to make life worth living
Lost in eternity’s grasp
We’ll find no way to weather the storm
This mentality that we’ve built;
It’s breaking down
All the same;
Every path you take
You remain
Trapped within your shame
Go away, far away
Separate, from the shame
I’ve brought myself to this place
Where only owls would know me
This reality that I’ve built
Is an empty space

The singer got held at the border and was t able to attend but they played anyway, and the bassist sort of took lead and I truly felt without his ability to take that “lead” spot the gig would have been shit but they fucking slayed. @@luchoorn5425 In my opinion, the take home message is a form of cherful nihilism. I am particularly intruiged by the verses "You wasted all that you have been given/ still hoping to find something to make life worth living". And in my view at least, it's about not losing yourself and dedicating your whole life by pursuing an idealistic dream, and remembering that you also have to live for yourself because this is your only chance to live and this world is all you got. But this however is combined with the idea of not taking life so serious and allowing yourself to go goofy and weird from time to time if that brings you joy ( that "trapped within your shame thing")

    The beauty of being in quarantine and being an old school metal head into almost every genre of music, I finally discover Rivers of Nihil. If there was a Spotify playlist for Jazzy-Death-Djent music, Rivers of Nihil would be the foundation. My newest favorite song and band for 2020. Thank you for making my year tolerable.

    And then I wished you away I lost those memories Of the days we weren’t Forsaken, why don’t we Just relax our eyes And fall into a dream Let it take my mind Where owls know my name And it gets colder every day Lost in eternity’s grasp Withdrawing further from what we have known This mentality that we’ve built It’s breaking down Still running away from it, you’re still dreaming Still hoping that there’s something that may be worth seeking You’ve wasted all that you have been given Still hoping to find a way to make life worth living Lost in eternity’s grasp We’ll find no way to weather the storm This mentality that we’ve built It’s breaking down All the same Every path you take You remain Trapped within your shame Go away, far away Separate, from the shame I’ve brought myself to this place Where only owls would know me This reality that I’ve built Is an empty space

    Saw them first before ever hearing them opening for Killswitch and it was a night of fate I'll never forget. I love the video and how it masks the depth of this songs weight. So beautiful yet terrifying. I remember seeing the sax player and we all were like is this really happening?? Holy shit it's perfection!! We were floored.

    I'd happily pay for and watch a two hour set of these guys just playing the outro of this song.
