I could just talk forever about what makes this whole album work so well. I realized another thing today on another listen. Perhaps the nicest thing is nobody in the band is ever over-playing any single part, each section in each song is purely efficient. The guitars knows when to step back to let a good lyric through or let the drums hammer down and the drums know when to step back and let the richness of the song just have its moment. Really thoughtful compositions.

Favorite album of all time for me at this point, its all i listen to. and I've listened to a lot! i own almost 500 CDs and came across this band during my massive music journey back in June. hard to believe its only been 3 months since i found this band and they changed my life, this album is everything to me

Progressive Death Metal masterpiece.

I remember seeing these guys in Reading back in 2011 when nobody knew who they were. Makes me really happy to see how far they've come and how much they've progressed.

andy brinks Yeah, man, it’s a killer album, and I agree: sax in metal is awesome. Ageless Oblivion, The Faceless, Cephalic Carnage, and lots of others have used sax well. Totally adds to the emotion of the music. Check out Tentacle Brains if you want lots of crazy saxophone.

Yeah, there's a few spots on the album where the kick drum editing (or timing correction, etc) is overbearing, the really fast parts at the end. It annoyed me at first (but almost ALL metal bands do it), but then I heard the live version. He's actually not that far off from being able to play it for real, live. He might have been damned close in the studio.

The clean vocals complement the harsh vocals so well, and the new drummer is absolutely kicking it! I also hope they keep the saxophone, too. That shit was what draw me into River of Nihil in the first place. Heavy with a nice little bit o' sax here and there really makes these guys stand out so well!

Coma Noir cannot be compared to Rivers Of Nihil, with Coma Noir you go through a whole 2 minutes of drudgery to hit a crescendo that never hits the spot, theres not alot of pay off listening to them.

I’ve been a death metal fan for years. This just made death metal beautiful. Game changing.

This whole album is a portal to another realm , "a sanctuary" if you will. #RiversOfNihil

This song totally satisfited my progresive death metal needs

Holy hell. This is insane. Amazing song structure, songwriting, technique and execution.

Sickest Drummer of 2018 for me so far!!! 4:20 onwards got me jizzin everywhere.

Did not expect the more audible screams in this. Especially the really good cleans right after. These guys have never made a bad note.

Always pushing the boundaries, this is a beautiful song.

Glad I revisited this. It's incredible. Definitely need to buy a cd before they're all gone

Hands down one of the best metal albums of all time. I legit can't get over the..everything, but the fucking sax. Goosebumps throughout the entire album. I'm showing this to everyone.

This song is as profound and deep as the whole album. For me, it was a song about the rupture of a relationship, but it has so much to offer if you put subtext and intelligence into it.

Gotta love a band when everybody’s somehow outdoing each other simultaneously.
