She didn't want to be see "seen as more American" cuz she was Spanish, she wanted to be "seen as white" because she was half Romani. She dyed her hair to look more white. And not to mention the whole history of the dancing. Do you know that the famous dancing she did is the traditional Romani dance? That's pretty important to her story. There's a Romani kid who puts out the REAL Romani stories. I'll find his channel and comment so you can get the real story and not this white washed watered down version.

This should be a lesson to all women, if he falls in love with your fake boobs your contoured face your fake tan and acrylic nails, hair extensions, does he love you or just the idea of you? My husband nursed me through sickness both physical and mental, saw me at my very worst. He fed me bathed me and made me smile on my most terrible days, held me when I woke up screaming covered in sweat, he sang to me and played his guitar for me, I know he loves me.

Actually Rita’s first husband was the one who started Margaritas change. He changed her name from Margarita Carmen Cansino to the shortened ‘Rita’ and her mother’s maiden name‘Hayworth’. He also had influence in changing the hair style and colour to. He then started promoting her and would send her out to nightclubs and at times encouraged her to be with other men. When she decided to divorce him he tried to sue her for her money stating ‘I created Rita Hayworth’. He was about 20 years older then her and his name was Ed Judson.

It was NEVER proven, nor did Rita or any of her family members confirm she was sexually abused. It was started as a rumour in the biography written by Barbra Leeming and used to help sell her books. Rita also willing made changes to her appearance and it was over a period of years, it was not instant. The studio may have had some say but it was her first husband Ed Judson who made the changes then when Rita went to divorce him he tried to sue her stating he ‘created Rita Hayworth’. This clip is grossly understating Rita’s history and in part is inaccurate. Her hair was naturally black but lightened to ‘Light Auburn’ so her hair was not dark red. Other then that she was blonde in the film ‘The Lady from Shanghai’. People have to realise Rita was born IN Brooklyn New York. She was American. Her father Spanish her mother American with Irish decent. Rita was naturally very fair skinned with dark hair and eye colour. She was made to appear more Spanish by her father as they danced in Mexico to earn income (which is how Rita was discovered) Rita willingly made the choices to appear more photogenic to a wider audience. By having the electrolysis’, yes it reduced an ‘ethnic’ (referred to then) appearance but it ALSO balanced the proportions of Rita’s face. Her hair was changed as there were not many Red Heads dominating at the time (exception ‘The Oomph girl Ann Sheridan) so the hair colour Red was the choice as you had other blondes and brunettes at the time. You have to take all these things and more into account when talking about past Hollywood stars that you weren’t around to see and clearly have not done much research into to gain a more educated understanding.

@@liviavallendenez I have 4 biographies. I’m educated on Rita. Yes she had to pretend to be his wife that does not mean she was sexually abused. If you can’t see if I have done research in my above comment then the failure is yours. Eduardo (Volga her mother was also aware) got Rita to pretend to be older (and his wife) as she was 13. It was illegal for her to be performing in such venues but the family needed the money they were earning to survive so Rita did things to make herself look older. Rita, nor any family member ever said she was sexually abused - you think you are the better researcher then go find proof… I actually explain WHY it was a rumour by stating NONE of Rita’s family support the RUMOURS started by Barbra Leemings book. Been researching Rita since 2001. Best you stop publishing your assumptions online and YOU do more research…

I can't believe this Narrator referred to Rita as the Infamous dance partner to Fred Astaire! Rita was the most Beautiful Angel and not involved in Crime as the Narrator here refers of her! And I notice the Narrator us repeating the Lines from Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman! Not very Original 😮

I'm sure that if Rita wanted this to be known that she would have talked about it herself during an interview. But that never really happened.... What is it with you younger people today? Ya just gotta dig into people's personal lives and seem to have absolutely no respect for their wishes or their privacy regardless of what they may have wanted while they were living.

For god sake. Rita was half Spanish, her father and his parents were Spanish. From Seville in Spain. Spain is part of Europe which is considered Caucasian - white. Her mother was American but of Irish decent. Rita enjoyed sunbathing but when she was out of the sun Rita was naturally very light skinned.

She was Spanish as were her grandparents from her fathers side - Seville Spain. Mothers background was Irish but Volga was born in America. Rita was mixed and born in America. Rita herself never faced racism. In fact she was the most famous woman of the 1940’s with many women idolising her. Her appearance changed via hair colour and the raising of her hairline was yes, to accentuate a more ‘American’ appearance to help her gain popularity, which worked very well. It wasn’t forced upon her, Rita made choices in order to become more successful. To add to that in her most famous film ‘Gilda’ she speaks Spanish. The in the title role in ‘The Loves of Carmen’ (her middle name was Carmen) she plays a Spanish woman. So Hollywood liked Rita’s Spanish background they just wanted to enhance her appearance. There were a few reasons to do that. While they felt her hairline was too low and ‘ethnic’ looking they ALSO wanted her facial proportions to balance more so she would become more photogenic. That worked, her hairline was still a low hairline but it opened up her face a little more. People need to stop picking small aspects then taking it out of context and making it bigger then it was.

@colinwilson6248 Raising of the hairline to be more "American"? The hairline matter is more an individual attribute than an ethnic one. Marilyn Monroe also raised her hairline. That had nothing to do with ethnicity. Also, Marilyn was not a natural blond and Lucille Ball was not a real redhead. Those changes had nothing to do with ethnicity. It wasn't the case for Rita Hayworth either.

I don't think Rita would have wanted to be remembered for this. Why don't you have respect for the dead and remember her for the great things that she would have wanted us to remember her for?.... Stop using her for your own personal gain or trying to insert what happened to her into your own personal struggles. Every person on this planet and their eventual road to the grave is an individual story. We are all different regardless of the similarities we may share. So stop doing this ignorant crap. Rita never would have been happy knowing that Western Civilization has become nothing but the world's gossip sheet. How anyone could put a like (👍🏻) on this truly baffles me. It just goes to show how sick the world has become.
