Gilda
The legendary Rita Hayworth sizzles with sensuality and magnetism as she sings "Put the Blame on Mame" and delivers a dazzling performance as the enticing temptress Gilda. In the story of GILDA, Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford) goes to work for Ballin Mundson (George Macready), the proprietor of an illegal gambling casino in a South American city, and quickly rises to become Mundson's main man. All is well until Mundson returns from a trip with his new bride Gilda - a woman from Johnny's past. Mundson, unaware of their previous love affair, assigns Farrell the job of keeping Gilda a faithful wife. Fraught with hatred, Gilda does her best to antagonize, intimidate, and instill jealousy in Farrell- until circumstances allow him to get even.

What a coded scene! Isn’t it great the way the writers let you know the back story of these characters without getting into trouble with the censors

Coded scene??? What are they saying in code? I don’t understand, and why would they get in trouble with the censors?

@@bhavyasharma8091 Listen to what she’s saying to him about his past life The story is that he was the boy-toy of the older guy that owned the place Remember he’s living at his house and he’s his “right hand man” The Hays Production Code was in effect since the mid 1930’s and wouldn’t permit that part of the book to be put into the script so they sort of made him “Johnny” a playboy I just love the whole story! 👍🏼

After Gilda was shown,She was known only by "Rita",when you said Rita, everyone knew who you were talking about. I loved all her movies, especially the ones with Glen ford, who loved one another till they died. They were next door neighbors when Rita died,it is said Glen visited her often.😢she was a great women & mother.

What a sensual voice she had. I feel heartbroken every time Glenn Ford's character mistreates her in this movie. Unfortunately, the story of her real life was being exploited by men. Fortunately, Glenn Ford was a great friend, from the beginning to the very end.

Something that Rita Hayworth had in common with a young Madonna was that they were both beautiful, carefree & wild. I can’t imagine how it would feel to be that beautiful and make films that captured that beauty for all time. Many young people who didn’t know about Gilda were exposed to it in a clip from a Michael Jackson video. Beauty is power and Rita was the most powerful woman in the 1940’s….SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE !
