She did her makeup similar, except she would use her lipstick both on her lips & as her rouge (lol), and then use an eye pencil with some mascara to bring out her eyes. Ooh, I always loved this movie! It's so interesting to see the details in how makeup was set back then in Hollywood. One has to take into account that "hoofers" (dancing actresses) back then were _constantly_ dancing, do retakes, revising choreography at a moments notice..all the while under the atomic-like heat of the lighting systems. Yet never even a glistening brow did show (unless it was intended, of course). I think it's wonderful how you bring such insight and relevancy to a much beloved media of old for myself and younger generations. Simply delightful work that you do, Erin. 💗

You've answered a question I've had for at least a few decades! Mom went to church with a woman who's make-up looked very different from hers. It looked very soft. I think she'd worked as an opera singer or in theatre years before, which sort of makes sense with this look/method. Thank you so much!

I know women are really into the glowing look these days, but the soft, perfectly powdered look is just so beautiful. I know that look might be more difficult for an older woman to pull off as powder can accentuate lines, but it seems like if you have the right type of powder, it actually blurs them out a bit. I am absolutely addicted to your channel. It's so relaxing, I am very interested in all things history and it's such an enjoyment to watch your videos. You are definitely an amazing make up artist.

I’m a 25 year old fan of films from this era and Rita is one of my favorites! She was such a fabulous dancer, like her feet didn’t touch the ground. Fred Astaire said she was his favorite dance partner. Now that’s saying something because he also danced with Ginger Rogers! The brushing off of the powder looked kind of painful! I wonder if that brush he used was rough or soft. I definitely want to try this 💕💕 Erin, I looove your videos 🌺🌺

I worked with/for two older women who owned an antique store in South Texas. When I told my mom I wanted to work there, she asked... "Why would anyone buy old things, mijita?" LOL. Ruth and Helen owned the antique store (upstairs) and used bookstore (downstairs). They were best friends who had traveled the world with their military spouses. They were in their 70's in 1977. Ruth wore Shalimar and Helen wore JOY by Jean Patou (which she proudly told me was told the most expensive scent in the world at the time). They changed my life these ladies! Always dolled up, always fabulous and stylish, but also naughty in the best way! They were super progressive and that suited me so well - I was a 12 year old Mexican-American (aka Tex-Mex) girl with dreams and ideas and thoughts and passions I have no idea where they came from. But Ruth & Helen saw "me" and bolstered me and encouraged me and taught me so much about love and life and fashion and history and holding on to my power. They gave me all they had. And, they would have absolutely loved you Erin! Thank you for the joy you bring! xx
