Ooh, I always loved this movie! It's so interesting to see the details in how makeup was set back then in Hollywood. One has to take into account that "hoofers" (dancing actresses) back then were _constantly_ dancing, do retakes, revising choreography at a moments notice..all the while under the atomic-like heat of the lighting systems. Yet never even a glistening brow did show (unless it was intended, of course). I think it's wonderful how you bring such insight and relevancy to a much beloved media of old for myself and younger generations. Simply delightful work that you do, Erin. 💗

I know women are really into the glowing look these days, but the soft, perfectly powdered look is just so beautiful. I worked with/for two older women who owned an antique store in South Texas. When I told my mom I wanted to work there, she asked... "Why would anyone buy old things, mijita?" LOL. Ruth and Helen owned the antique store (upstairs) and used bookstore (downstairs). They were best friends who had traveled the world with their military spouses. They were in their 70's in 1977. Ruth wore Shalimar and Helen wore JOY by Jean Patou (which she proudly told me was told the most expensive scent in the world at the time). They changed my life these ladies! Always dolled up, always fabulous and stylish, but also naughty in the best way! They were super progressive and that suited me so well - I was a 12 year old Mexican-American (aka Tex-Mex) girl with dreams and ideas and thoughts and passions I have no idea where they came from. But Ruth & Helen saw "me" and bolstered me and encouraged me and taught me so much about love and life and fashion and history and holding on to my power. They gave me all they had. And, they would have absolutely loved you Erin! Thank you for the joy you bring! xx
