She's been dead for more than half a century now and this looks like it was shot yesterday. Some actors surpass their era and their medium and she's definetly one of them. What a presence, what a charisma!

You can tell all that from a silent film of a lady feeding a fish to a pelican. . You are well ahead of your time. Frankly, I thought the pelican gave a stronger performance as did the piano player.

This reinforces how wonderful she was in her natural acting she didn’t overdo it she acted very naturally which was so different from many of her counterparts of that era

I agree. Clara Bow's acting was remarkably natural and realistic. She stood out from her contemporaries. In an interview that can be seen on You Tube, Louise Brooks spoke highly of Clara Bow and I think she did also in the autobiographical book "Lulu in Hollywood".

One can only hope. Even today some of these lost films are being found and sometimes in surprisingly good condition. What's appalling is that the studios themselves chose not to archive them, presuming them not works of art but just something whose money-making potential had been exhausted and therefore now garbage to be thrown out.

Clara became a muse of mine when I was just a teenager. I was entranced by her and her lovely “sad” down turned eye shape allowed me to love my own 💖

I wonder if Betty Boop was based on her. Certainly a resemblance there.

Sad that so many of the films of the silent era are lost. They were usually destroyed by the studios themselves just a few years after they were made. Once a film was no longer considered to be a revenue generator, it was not kept around. It was like a department store getting rid of last year's clothing inventory so they can focus on selling this year's fashions. Many of the films that did survive made it only because the people in charge of destroying them secretly kept them instead.

While you are absolutely correct about a large number of 'missing' films, it also needs to be mentioned that before 1950 all motion pictures were made on nitrate stock which was extremely flammable to the degree that it can literally burn underwater and, if the films hadn't been transferred, often would degenerate into a gooey mess over time! Yet, despite the odds of deliberate destruction and volatile stock, there HAVE been films from that era that somehow survived and have been rediscovered in recent years still intact- and maybe somewhere there's more footage of this early color movie that could be found and restored!

actually there was two two main reasons to destroy old acetate film, storage is expensive, and fim studios are money makers. Theres another big issue, acetate is self destroying and worst, is highly flamable, which made those storage facilities dangerous.

She was adorable. It's easy to see why she was such a sensation.

Wow, what a cutie Clara was! Such a beautiful young lady. Thank Heaven that, at least, we do have this short bit of two-strip technicolor film of her.

I am curious as to how one would thank someone “numerously”. 🤔

I think she did maybe 57 films (I know that most were, by today's standards considered "independent"), and ended up in a quiet little small suburban house in CA. She was a spark, a comet, a flash of gold to so many. A women that many men wanted, and so many women wanted to be! Love her.

There is a similarity between Betty Boop & Clara Bow. Animator Grim Natwick design Bimbo the dog's love interest based on singer Helen Kane. Some of Betty Boop's Looks is based on actress on Clara Bow .

It's a shame it was lost. It feels like a very witty comedy.

Red and green Technicolor. Looks like the 2-strip cemented process, which practically meant one-light (rather than timed shot-by-shot) prints. It was inferior, but had it's pleasing aspects. Clara Bow looks good.

This clip is such a treasure, to be able to see her incredible hair in color. I’m forever smitten with ms bow.

One of the most gorgeous ladies in Hollywood ever. The "It"' girl x 100.

Technicolor Type II, 2-color generally did a pretty bad job rendering the sky any sort of blue color and turquoise is usually what one ended up with. However, there was a way to trick the eye into thinking it was seeing the sort of blue we see in this clip. I cannot remember the details, so my apologies. This is a wonderful clip.

1928 was basically the Year of Clara Bow, when she was the hottest-ticket star on the screen, so it’s especially sad that all of her films from that year are lost.

Clara bow was a early jazz age star 1920-1925 more so than a late 1920s sensation. Her hair is also reminsicent of the 1922-1924 time period, whereas another silent actress would have a bob cut most certainly. Beautiful star but more early 1920s than late 1920s.

Shot in process 3 "two strip" technicolor. Notice the green fringing at the left of the frame and red at the right. The ability to render blue was somewhat improved over process 1 and 2. Compare the color here to The Toll of the Seas (1922). But the red-green systems could never fully render the darker blues or violets, and could not give neutral whites and true blacks. Replaced by full color technicolor in 1931.

What most don't know is those suits were unconstructed cotton or wool blend. Another words when they got wet, they were a wet t-shirt.

*I remember them saying in one of the documentaries about her, that they initially rejected her because she was too short and too fat. Wft? She was as cute as a button, and very far from fat. No wonder women have bad views about their bodies. We women are like varied types of chocolate: different but just as sweet. I myself am only 5'1 with an hourglass figure. I have NO intention of being skinny and looking like a boy at my height. If someone doesn't like the way I look, they can point their eyeballs elsewhere lol*

She's just left her earth body. I am sure such a dear person is with Jesus. She suffered a painful life and was, like in this film short, an innocent soul. Compare her to the plastic young women of today.

Interesting. Shot in 2-strip Technicolor (3-strip would first be used 4 years later in 1932). Too bad, Clara Bow is definitely forgotten today,. She had a natural acting ability.

Remember that in 1928 this would likely have been shot on 2 colour Technicolor, using red and cyan-green colour filters. If you look at the top left of the frame you can see both colours coming slightly out of alignment. The colour will not be terribly accurate, although compared to black and white it would have been considered 'pleasing'.

Very pleasing, you wouldn't understand that they dressed just like what people saw leaving the theatre, the scenes are all average life at the time with added dramatics or story. This is what they saw leaving the theatre outside. The movies are just the same as real life with added dramatics and story. People saw color so it wasn't insane to watch a black and white movie without any color. This is still color, cyan green and red filtering was not fake color, it is correctly representing every shade though with a focal point of green cycan and omni red.

@@WitchKing-Of-Angmar Two colour Technicolor was not true colour. Kalmus, Comstock and the others at Technicolor knew it was a milestone on the way to the real thing. However it was some sort of colour and that made it stand out against the regular black and white offerings of the time. Its imperfections had to be carefully managed with wardrobe, set and makeup testing. Some colours would deviate so much from the original that they could not be used. The first 3 colour Technicolor films were Disney cartoons shot with rostrum cameras modified to she RGB sequential triplets. Look up Edward Raymond Turner and his colour process. With the help of modern tech, the films he made in about 1902 look amazingly good.

This is remarkable. The woman that was the screenwriter of the Red Hair movie lived to be 111.

I have a daughter named Clara. When she was born my mum started calling my daughter Clara Bow, what she thought was just a random name she pulled from nowhere, because it sounded like it went nice together for a nickname. Out of curiosity I googled it to find out that she's a 1920s actress. How strange!

Most of the lost silent films burned up in tragic fires. MGM had one. Another studio too. Nitrite films were self combustible when stored in the wrong conditions.

Her facial expressions are very "modern" as odd as that sounds. I feel like I'm watching what a 20 something year old woman would act like today, not in the 1920s, when I watch her

She really didn't deserve all the abuse and hate 😢 It must have been so awful for her to segregate herself from her family right up to her tragic death. Them poor kids and Poor carla 😞
