Back in 1999 I bought a brand new 500 sportsman , It was four wheeler of the year in the magazines, my son and I set out to buy a four wheeler , we looked at all the brands and settled on the Polaris 500 because it was the only brand that was designed with Rear Independent Suspension and true four wheel drive not limited slip also something called EBS , which stands for ,Engine Braking System , Great for going down hills , not much use of the brakes needed the engine did most of it , Kids are grown and moved away now , But I still have it , Now its just a plow machine , Winter is the only time I use it , The engine is a very easy starting powerhouse , Never had a problem , but this new 1000 is quite the awesome looking machine , Great job again Polaris !

When we got our sports and scramblers in 15 we put the offset wheels on them witch set them out to 55” creating the best trail machine handling at the time ground clearance has been an issue with around 9” it might finally be time to do some upgrading in the garage.

Beautiful machine...after doing the rebuild on the 2017 Sportsman...it was a tough choice on going with the 2020 Sportsman or Scrambler. Ended up going with the Scrambler and patiently awaiting the rebuild to be finished to see just how it performs in the mud. First testing will take place in Canada to boot! Best all around terrain for a solid testing. I honestly feel Polaris has truly put themselves in a totally different league with this 2020 lineup...like literally. Who is going to touch this?

Very good review, we have newer atvs and use them in the winter and we are planing for tracks. Hmm maybe this might be a trade in opinion before we get tracks. Only thing some trails have barricades to allow only 50 inches and this may limit our adventure options. I wonder if they make the 55 width in a 2-up? I’ll have to look. Being a women, I find myself taking passengers who are new to ATVing, I like the 2-ups.

So I bought a 2020 Outlander XMR 1000 and removed the mud tires and added trail tires instead. Kept the 30” factory size though. I’m using it exactly as described in this video, just a massive trail buster. It has over 13” of ground clearance, 48” wide stance and the 2up extended chassis. It has surprised me around every turn. The extra length and width is so stable and surprisingly comfortable. I can drive over objects I used to have to avoid or fight. Having this setup, I can totally see where someone might want a setup like this. Also, this customer will be like me in the sense that they want SXS capability but don’t want to lose the thrill of riding an atv!

@@jessecameron7268 The suspension travel Is limited to maintain the ride height. I aired down the 30” tires and it helps soften the ride. There is very limited adjustment on suspension because it’s a “mud bike”. I may look at aftermarket shocks eventually.

I am contemplating going to the new Sportsman S from my XP 1000. What shock settings did y’all find overall best on the Walker Evans Suspension? I’ve heard the Scrambler’s settings are different and most people like them better than the Sportsman. I have heard the Sportsman’s stock setting are too soft and can be responsible for some nose dive and rear end push in hard braking and cornering. There’s not much information out there on this that I can find.

After many years of riding ATV's I can totally understand the advantage the changes in this ATV are all excellent for an improved handling experience. I have since switched to SXS's having now owned three and I do enjoy the improved comfort. Now for my big question, what about the 50 inch trails? Some Federal forest lands have more 50 inch trails than anything else.In fact, Wisconsin National forests are all 50 inch. We own a 50 trail SXS so we can ride those trails. The gates at these trail heads are no more than 53 inches. So there is a new ATV that looks exciting, but it will be relegated to 60 inch plus trails. I am just not sure how that is going to work.

5 additional inches isnt bad, the fact that it's the first ATV to crack the one thousand pound barrier is, but if it gets the 110hp RZR base engine it may just justify the cost, now that they've gone this far, put the engine to match and let it be a niche product, would be sweet with that engine and 30's all around indeed.

My take is this.... 20 years ago ATVs werr physically smaller, and there were no sxs vehicles. Hence trails were narrow. When ATVs got wider, trails did too. When sxs vehicles took off, many trails got wider again. If the 55 inch platform moves to smaller engines and cheaper platforms to the point it becomes a real thing, the trials will quickly adapt.

Looks like a money pit to me. At 17 999$ bone stock plus tax 20 964$ Canadian (if paid cash) otherwise add the costs of borrowing. I will not mind paying this kind of money on a product that will last 25 plus years and requires minimal maintenance costs.

Look at all the private selling platforms, Facebook Market Place, Craigslist, Letgo etc. Flooded with used Polaris's, not even 5 years old. People dump them because they become money pits. The dealers are jam packed with service jobs, you have to wait 3 weeks before they can look at your machine. Half the time they don't even cover the warranty work due to negligence on your part, so they claim. If you want to buy this, make sure you get the extended transferable warranty. Easier to sell privately at the last year of your warranty.

All 1000 quads will go 55 inch I think. They need a size increase to handle more robust drive lines. The reliability problem is the engines are to big and powerful for the drive line. It’s like putting a V8 in a Volkswagen. I suspect Yamaha and Kawasaki will offer a 1000 soon and it will be a 55. I think it’s a great move. Perhaps reliable 1000cc quads will be available due to the size increase and bring Japan into the game. A bigger front and rear diff will make a great improvement and handle the power better I’m waiting for a Kawasaki Brute Force 1000 with 55 inches 👍🏼😎

I'm perfectly happy with the chassis/power combo on my base 1000XP. Also for 15k it should come with the new LED headlights. I paid $9999 for my base 1000xp so the S would need to be discounted significantly for me to accept the compromises it has and really consider it. Also I don't like how they took even more of the front storage space away for the upper shock mounts.

it is a great machine, but it is close to 180 pounds heavier than a regular sportsman 1000 xp. i own a 2021 sportsman 1000 xp. but i d'ont doubt its capabilities and i think it is the best looking atv on the market. but close to a thousand pounds is insane. i guess acceleration is not as good as my sportsman 1000 xp.

Can Am Outlander or Renegade. They are lighter and have a more powerful engine. Polaris has always been known for poor reliability. Don’t get suckered in by all the smoke and mirrors. Take it from someone who has raced both brands for years in the gncc series.

"ALL NEW" ...... same engine, same trans, same diffs, same garbage. the airbox boots will crack just like on every other polaris twin engine. and the motor will grenade with the slightest ingestion of dust. not impressed. stop charging us 20 grand for lipstick on a pig. redesign the drivetrain. give us a real V-twin. give us something that is easy to repair. the only thing half decent about the prostar is that it can turn the wheels. rebuilding them is almost just as expensive as buying an entire engine. i will never buy another polaris again.
