Fixing Polaris's Mistakes on my XP 1000 S

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After looking over my new Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 S I have noticed a few things I need to fix before doing any serious off road riding.

Excellent video Ben. A little over 5 week and we'll be on the trails! Any update on a new trailer.

Yeah, that's interesting. I would definitely snorkel that clutch exhaust up. Do you know anyone with a 3D printer to make you an attractive "port" for you to plumb that up to? I need to order a 3D printer... The paper filter is also a strange choice, haha. Everything I've ever had has come with a cleanable filter. Looking good buddy! We're looking at our trails up here now. We still have quite a bit of snow up here on the trails, so I feel like it's not looking good for a May 1st opener unfortunately. We really need some warm temps.

Just bought a 2023 scrambler xp 1000 S. Im gonna upgrade headlights, get uni air filter, get clutch kit, slip on exhaust and get it professionally tuned. Hopefully it wakens it up.

I think the front one is relatively high but I'm not sure about the rear... better look into that, good idea!

Racing in water and mud the paper filter is better because it won't let muddy water though. A k&n and foam filter will let water though. Plus the sportsman s will funnel water up and around the air box and riding high speed in water

I've spent a decent amount of time on a sportsman S. For the most part, you'll likely never find a water hole on public land that would make the outlet height a concern. Sure, you can't ford water up to the handlebars bet It'll turn most every trail in the state into a flat parking lot.

I suppose your right, I could get in trouble in my pond but other than that it probably won't be an issue.

I have the 2022 sportsman 1000 xp s. I am going to cut the belt exhaust at about halfway, then try to snorkel it with pipe up to the handlebars at least.

Literally sunk my wheeler last night. Had to drive around in L for it to not slip. Once It came back to life, I was able to get home and replace the fluid. Filled with water.

Lol a water proof seal between the mating surfaces of the filter? If water is that high it will easily get sucked through the filter and into the engine. Will it help it slide in.. sure lol.

It's good practice to make sure dust can't leak past the seal. Water tight I think was a general expression.

You're missing the air sock that comes on top of the filter. Normally you just remove and wash the condom and the filter is fine.

dude check the uni filter number i had the same one and that’s the wrong one….. the foam on the inlet let a lot of dirt by and washed my rings. Had to rebuild the motor. Just don’t want the same to happen to you. Cost me $4500.00 to fix it.

Sounds like you did not oil the foam. Has to be oiled the same way the filter foam is. Both the inlet and the filter need oil.

Check out John Franco his KZread channel he snorkel his cvt to look stock. I did something similar to my 2021 Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 trail. It looks stock and is hidden. The same thing would work on the S. It's really the same as a normal 1000 minus some suspension changes.

Be sure to check out a prefilter for a PL-1003. You can get them on Amazon even and helps resist water getting into the filter

Belts on a sled, cold and usually dry air: good. Belts on a quad or worse, 1500 lb. UTV, hot, wet and dusty : bad. My advice? Buy a honda. When that quad is sitting behind someones garage with terminal issues. The honda will still be running. They may not be the biggest or the fastest, but they last.

Bought a 2017 Polaris Sportsman 850 SP new in 17, (2000 miles later), NO belt issues, no issues anywhere at all really! I also have 2017 sportsman 570 Power steering, 2018 Sportsman 570 SP, all bought new, only problem was a bad power steering relay on the 17 and the batteries on both are junk. Finally, I bought used, a 2010 Sportsman 550 XP power steering with over 2k miles, no issues! It's called "maintenance", it does wonders :-) Do I think they will be as trouble free as a Honda?? No, but that's what you get when you mix HP with anything, it breaks! If I want a boring ass quad that is reliable but puts me to sleep riding it, I'll go pick me up a Honda.

I wish Honda made something like this! Honestly though I'm pretty impressed with this quad otherwise. I know some of them have issues and I agree Honda makes a reliable machine but I'm pretty happy with mine!

Remember those Baja little dirt bikes from the 70's and 80's that had a lawn mower engine in them? They were belt driven and had a centrifugal clutch on the left side, man those were fun little bikes when I was a kid. I had 1 a few years ago that I put a Predator Motor from HF in, that thing was a tiny beast after that. I gave it to the neighbor kids because I buit it for fun, those Baja bikes have no shocks, they don't go very fast (unless you're a kid), but also they're pretty simple and dependable in all reality. Though better quality, a Honda ATV is 1 step above being comparable to 1 of those little bikes in the actual enjoyable experience of using them. My maintained on a schedule (by me) Polaris 850 w/ over 6,000 miles on it has had no issues as of yet. My neighbor who has a 10 year old Honda Recon w/ less mileage somehow twisted his rear axle that then mangled the rear diff all to hell and he rides like a Grandma. Is this a 1 in a million happenstance, or does it show the true inner quality of Honda's now? I don't want to depend upon something that the rear single axle twists when it's a little stressed. Rock on and be careful on your Honda, it's a hospital or morgue visit ready to happen.

If honda made something like this, I'd already have it. I agree with your statement about their reliability but they haven't evolved their ATV lineup in years and aren't making anything I really want (for their asking price). As such, I'm buying either an XP1000s or XP1000.
