Learning to control your shoulder blades and strengthen them in the proper position will help reverse the rounded posture most people live with. Work out with purpose, don’t just go through the motions. If you are spending the time to strengthen, take a few extra minutes to connect your mind to your position and technique. You will get more bang for your buck strengthening in an optimal position.
Start the row by standing there and getting your feet engaged, pelvis neutral, glutes engaged, ribs pulled down and core aligned, shoulder blades pulled down and armpits pressed forward, and top of the head reaching upward. Once you have everything engaged, slowly walk your feet forward to decrease the angle of your body. The farther you walk, the more difficult the row will be. Make sure that your blades are locked down and gently pulled back BEFORE you pull with your arms. As you pull with the arms, keep the elbows from flaring out to the sides like wings. Bring the rings as far back as you can without letting your shoulders SHRUG upward. As you let the arms relax, keep the shoulders down and the core/glutes/shoulders tight.
