I find that when people comment on how big my girl is, I reply with "to me she is a normal size dog, most other dogs are just small or ridiculously tiny like handbag dogs"

I think it's an unspoken rule that Dane owners must great other owners and their Danes with that level of enthusiasm

I do! I show Levi that I'm just as happy to see him as he is to see me.

I get a lot of comments and compliments when I walk my black Dane, but it usually only happens AFTER people have passed us. Too scared to comment while they are too close to us. "That's not a dog, that's a horse" is a very common one. When somebody looks sketchy, I usually say, "Wanna come say hello? He's hungry."

I love my baby boy!! He'll be 7 yrs this year and have had him since he was 6 weeks.

We always get the, how much does that"thing" eat? with our sweet harlequin. We always reply, only 1-2 strangers per day! Have a Great Day Gus!!

We get... "that's a big dog" "You should put a saddle on that and ride it" "That's not a dog that's a horse" "Bet that costs a fortune to feed" "You're beautiful 🤩" and otherwise talking to the Dane and not the owner. Letting their smaller dog bark at mine and other things that that would be unacceptable for a big dog to do. "Who's walking who?" When my dog is walking nicely!

I always get the small dog barking wildly at mine too, what don't small dog owners get about keeping them well mannered? Should I let my Dane be a maniac around the neighbourhood? I'd have the authorities at my door in no time if I let her do this.

@@VixOfAllTrades Amen! Also, I find that small dog owners tend to leave their dogs miniature poops on the ground. Imagine if we Dane owners left our dogs mess on the ground? I carry rolls of poop sacks ready to hand them out to these owners when I see it happen - disgusting, I wonder how messed up their homes are????

My fawn is extra tall so I hear lots of comments of the horse variety and Scooby-Doo/Marmaduke. Sometime I'm questioned why his ears are cropped. His original owner showed him so cropping is common.

Hey hi 👋 I've recently subscribed to your channel too. It's so true what you say, about the horse, when I initially saw the thumb nail, I thought I was going to watch a horse video in a shopping mall, pleasantly surprised to see a Great Dane instead .🤗

I’d say this was accurate. Igby is a harlequin and even at his size everyone assumes he’s a Dalmatian. 🤦‍♂️

I've heard them ALL, even a few new ones. I had a bride and her groom getting their pictures taken at the lake I was out just taking him for walk and they wanted to get pics of my Dane standing between them, one with her kissing him on the nose and one of him standing on the side of their white limo...so others could get the "real feel" of how big he is.

I've gotten most of the comments in your video. I have a 165 lb. Harlequin Great Dane and I get dumb comments about him being a cow or horse instead of a dog. Most people that have seen him before love him though. He's very friendly, well socialized, and loves the attention. 👍

I have heard so many of these already and our pup is only 5 months old! "So nice of him to take you for a walk today!" - every time I take my pup for a walk. "What kind of dog is that?" "A dane" "Ohhhh.... haha he's going to be big! Just look at those paws!" - Yeah, I know, that's why I got a Dane.

I just got Nyx two days ago and I've never been more in love. I've always wanted a "Scooby Doo Dog" and I literally cried I am so happy! Looking forward to all of this 😂😂

I’ve been taking my 8month old GD to a few local stores and just out with walks and I’ve gotten a lot of these. Hilarious. Most of the fedex workers see him in the front yard and just go “wooooaaaahhhh, can you meet me out here?!” Even though he’s on leash or tied up. Most my GD would do is get slobber on someone.

You can definitely tell which people are comfortable around big dogs and which are not!

The Dalmatian joke about my Harley...I used to tell sure but I had a lift kit installed. When they passed couldn’t face,that again so now I have a Shiloh Shepard.

Food, poop, and riding are the three I get the most. Funny thing is, she is a little below average size. 100lbs and a little shorter too. I usually tell people, you should see them when they are big.

It's so tempting to respond sarcastically, but I try to remind myself that people just don't realize how repetitive their comments are...

This should be a series!

I have a sweet 7 month old pup that is a Blue Merle. I get the "Is that a mixed blue heeler?" or "That's a big Dalmatian!" When they find out it's a Great Dane I always get shocked expressions! Then they argue with me that I'm wrong. Finally I convince them that yes... this is a Great Dane I get "Well, I never knew they could be that color. Must be a mutation." Are you kidding me? -lol- I get this almost every time we venture beyond our home! Crazy people!

I'm the one who pets them crazy and says I used to have one. Literally makes my day.

Pretty much!

We hadn't had Lurch long and we live up a holler with only one or two people above us, all family. One day he was down in the road because he was getting a drink from the creek and my uncle came up the road from work and he just stopped dead because Lurch was just standing there in front of him looking at him through the windshield and he yells, "Is this your horse!?" It was then that I realized the jokes were probably never going to stop.

The horse comments are the worst 😖

I can only imagine the “big” comments. We have a 75 pound (and still growing) Bouvier and she looks rather big because they’re such a fluffy breed. I constantly get comments about how big she is. My response is always that she’s the size of a male golden retriever. I guess bc she’s not a common breed it seems more impressive? I also get comments asking if she’s good with kids, only ever asked when one of my kids is standing next to her. My youngest is 4, barely taller than her, and likes to stand with her hand on our dog’s back. No, not good with kids at all. 🙄 😂 The horse comments comments would drive me crazy. People really think they’re the only one making that joke. 😳

😂😂 the first question was so funny. Our Dane puppy we just got is also blue and one of the first things my in-laws said was that he looked like a weimaraner (sp?)

I have have two fawn Danes. When we meet a barking small dog, I always hear "they'll eat you in one bite". My dogs just stand back and let the little dog bark. I just inherited a mini dachshund. Wonder how the comments will roll with the three of them. Take care Dane owners!!

Ooof I'd be livid if they called Ruby a mutt. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but she's a beautiful pure bred Great Dane, no more no less.

The over-pet was the best.

Love the video we love our two Great Danes we just recently made a KZread channel with our Danes just a bunch of training and info videos

My Dane is 9 months old and people can tell he is a still a puppy because of the goofy way he acts. Since he is already 145# and 34" tall I get often "wow that puppy is huge, how big is that thing going to get?" (Thing!) The horse, food, and poop are regular remarks too. I find it really amusing how many people tell me my dog is big,. Do they think I haven't noticed?

I have a great dane he is 8 months old and weighs 110 lbs he is a big boy and he is the sweetest.

Them: What kind of dog is it? Me: A Great Dane. Them: Did you know it would get this big? Me: Given the name, not a big surprise really!

People with small dogs - "What does she eat?" Me - "Small dogs - sorry I meant sausages"

It's surprising how many people are wary of large dogs. I see people cross the road or avoid coming near me, even parcel delivery guys are shocked when she comes to the door next to me. Personally, tiny aggressive doge are more intimidating to me and I love dogs.

I have two great dane's and the question I always hear is : "do they sleep in de garage" ? Me answering : "No of course they don't sleep in the garage" 🙄. They have their own couch in my living room😂

I have a 8 week old Great Dane and everyone is like you know how big she’s going to get right? Like duh 😂

I had a harlequin and people used to always say of nice Dalmatian 🤦‍♀️. I now have a black Dane. Can’t take him out in public yet as he’s hasn’t had all his vaccinations but I’m sure when I can I’ll get plenty of comments lol

Lol this was great! ..people I’m sure think my dog is a mix because he’s tan point color which is super rare for the breed but I saw part of the litter and met the parents ..I’ve heard Doberman mix and online I’ve seen people think that any tan point color Great Dane must be a mix but nope! Mine’s definitely a Dane!

I get "oh my friend has a lab too". My baby is black with white and will be 1 on Feb 10th, but very small thanks to a vet causing vaccine HOD. Hes only 96lbs and the size of a 6 month old dane.

Brilliant video! you covered most of them, I can only add you must have a huge house for that horse. And you dont let them sleep on the bed do you? Bet they dont let you use the couch. and last but not least, bet your house never gets broken in to 🙂

I have 3 and the rough petting/pounding on our danes sides makes me crazy. I usually ask 'why are you hitting my dog????' To which they say Uh, sorry and quickly exit🤣

Mine is scooby doo colored and I've had tons of people tell me they've never seen one that color.

Often when I am out with my harlequin, Jester Blue, people ask, "is that a Dalmatian?" "No, it's a Great Dane." "Are you sure it isn't a Dalmatian?"
