Sonetimes you just have to shut up than to insult us blacks. The narrative of white racists has been to project our leaders as bad for us and as selfish and so they instigate hatred against them hoping they the people will revolt and they impose their puppet! We Zimbabweans have become far more cleverer than that!

I used to work with an Asian guy (Indian I think, although I never asked) who was posted to Rhodesia back in the mid to late 70s as a civil servant, seconded to help out with government development using his UK civil service knowledge and experience. He spent 3 years there until 1978 or 1979, basically just before Mugabe took power. He said it was a beautiful country, very modern, well organised and efficiently ran, clean and with law and order. He loved it there and said that when his secondment ended, he and his wife were very sad to leave. He watched from afar as the country descended into a shambles and always said it was a terrible decline that should never had happened.

@@JohnDoe-tx8lq It makes YOU feel good to attack the whole project because it doesn’t fit with your “all things should be equal” worldview. Yes, it showed blacks working as nurses, administrators, gardeners and no doubt many other jobs at a certain level based on their experience and ability. Yes given that they are the majority and it was a relatively new country most of the poor will obv be black and live in black areas. It’s not that the arrival of wealthier whites MADE them poor. They’re just different. Whatever healthcare they received I have no doubt it was better than no healthcare at all living in the bush. I absolutely did not say they were capable of only subsistence agriculture, the fact they are working other jobs shows that. LOL black farmers in the uk, what has that got to do with Rhodesia? The UK is a majority white nation and always has been, Zimbabwe is not. You think that because about 5% of the UK is black they should be 50% of the farmers? I don’t think blacks who move to the UK are just that interested in farming plus given they’ve only been here a couple of generations moving from poor countries there is obv a wealth gap but yeah that is racism too. It’s all racist and you have to point it all out! It makes YOU feel good. Racism of your fellow white people is just a placeholder for you that easily fills in the gaps where people and the world don’t line up with your systematic equality theories.

"WRONG",The thing that RUIN ZIMBABWE was ( not "one" man, R Mugabe ) but, (1),The then white population played nothing but a destabilising, sabotaging role against MAJORITY RULE because they as RACIST PEOPLE could not come to terms with the fact that if Democracy was established in Zimbabwe then the Country would be Ruled (governed) By BLACK AFRICAN PEOPLE,,This to them was totally unexceptable, out of the question, so when R Mugabe came to power ALL OF THE BUSINESS (or most to all), One could say closed shop, (those businesses were owned by racist people, & from then on the European /American outlets became nonexistent to Zimbabwe.(2) the other thing that economically ruined Zimbabwe was the inability not of R.Mugabe ;but of the people themselves ; who "probably due to being kept illiterate by the people's with power" was TOTALLY unable to manage a country internally let alone internationally. These (2) Situation's alone was the blow's that ruined Zimbabwe because from then on desperation took hold & the desperate in there ignorance turned to CORRUPTION,,,. Many fine regiments were dissolved: No white soldier rebelled nor did the whites start a civil war. The Rhodesian Civil Service continued its work and supported the new country. 2.) Capitalist companies want to make profits they dont care about your colour or culture. So i doubt that international companies left Zimbabwe because they hated the new black government but maybe because the government created a hyperinflation and massivly increased taxes to fund its corrupt government. 3.) Zimbabweans quickly became one of the best educated people in Africa. The literacy rate is astonishingly high. A good leader would have used the taxes from the whites to lift black people up, to give them even better education, making Zim an African Sylicon Valley. Sadly nothing of this happened. Ironically, many of the Rhodesians who criticised South Africa for apartheid were happy to live in segregated suburbs themselves in Rhodesia; suburbs like Avondale, Braeside and Cranborne and sent their children to whites-only government schools like Queensdale, Hatfield and Nettleton. Moreover, whites born in Rhodesia were mostly born in segregated hospitals like the Lady Chancellor in Salisbury. In fact the Rhodesian govt was at times cruel and in the wrong by how they treated blacks most unfairly. Although Rhodesia was much fairer compared to apartheid South Africa. If only the Whites and Blacks worked together in Unity, Friendship, Tolerance, Loving Kindness, Compassion and Peace. What a country we could have made! A Zimbabwe where both Blacks and Whites were United and where we produced one of the most prosperous countries in Africa, let alone in the world. Despite what fascist Zanu PF and Mugabe did to our beautiful country, there is great hope for our country in the future. A nation built on Community, Love, Kindness, Compassion, Friendship, Forgiveness, Tolerance and Unity for all living Beings. The Rhodesian's big miscalculation is that they gave in to the concept of majority rule simply too late. It ultimately fuelled the rise of the militant and more extreme opposition( ZANLA etc.). You almost wonder if they had gone with the path Garfield Todd envisioned of gradually starting the integration of the black moderates in the early 60s into key government positions and effectively building a class of competent black ministers to take over ultimately. We would have black majority rule by at least the early 80s. In this scenario, you would have had a black majority government with the key competencies to effectively run the economy and country. The Rhodesians were just too racist to see the big picture; ironically, they were the architects of their demise.

A pointless war was fought where thousands of lives were lost, and quite comically, Zimbabwe ended up being run by an ideological Marxist party. My question is, was it worth it? Or, with the help of hindsight, can we say they could have taken an alternative route, such as comprising with the moderates in the 60s as they tried too little too late to do in the late 70 with Muzowera and co? Zimbabwe was meant to have a black government running a White dominated economy, the Land and all remaining under White Capital. This is what the Lancaster House Agreement was about. When the Black government pulled the rug from under the White economy by force, the Anglo Saxon Capitalists led by America imposed stringent SANCTIONS on Zimbabwe. Yes it's a fact that Zimbabwe could do a lot better with moderate, yet patriotic, clear headed leadership. We could be a better country, building our economy. These are the twin evils keeping us from achieving our full potential. We need a progressive government, firm on our entitlement to our resources and patriotic too. Critically, we MUST change our education system and focus on making our people creative and entrepreneurial. It means shifting totally from the western model which produces place holders for it's factories. We need creators of wealth and that way we can steer ourselves away from the dead end education system of creating job seekers.

English, Welsh, Irish and Scottish. In other words, we Rhodesians were British. Rhodesia also had some settlers of Greek, Italian, Portuguese and other Mediterranean heritage as well as some Afrikaans families too.

The unemployed African guy wearing the suit in the park is smart and articulate. Quite possibly an ally to a better future for whites in Rhodesia / Zimbabwe. It is a shame that degree educated Africans were not brought on board earlier in the day. Perhaps he did get seduced with Communism etc, many young people the world over are. If they had a better slice of the pie, there may well have been a better future. The statement about a poor white in UK, having a better chance is pointed. Though I would agree the British Government change of attitude between 1945 and 1960 did leave those it encouraged to settle in Africa in the lurch.

The conclusion I've come up with is that Rhodesia Europeans were correct in keeping the wealth voting system since the vast majority of residents didn't have allegiance to the state or the ideals of uniting together for the greater good of the nation and the progress for a better future. Ian Smith could have implemented a federal job guarantee run by local councils to improve the infrastructure and educational needs of the populace (check out modern monetary theory). I believe this would have improved relations with the native Zimbabweans and encourage economically integration of the whole nation. Indirectly discourage the enlisting of guruela fighters by offering a meaningful job to anyone who seeks work. Just my thoughts, please leave any comments for further intellectual discussion. After decolonization Africa reverted to a slum ruled by tribal crime gangs. Everything that has happened in South Africa since 1994 shows that apartheid was necessary for the benefit of all races. Rhodesia loved to use the merit argument to justify why it was mostly whites running the country but hardly did anything to help the "Blacks" reach the same level of merit. Like shooting someone in the knee but then complaining why they couldn't finish the race in the same time as you. White Rhodesians had no intention of integrating with the "Blacks". They didn't let them live near them, they didn't learn their languages, they didn't allow native political organizations (unless they were puppets). Nonsense. It's stated openly by those interviewed that they believe in white control. White people are superior in ability, as evidenced by formerly / presently white African nations being vastly more developed than their non - colonized neighbours. Whites were 10 % of the population, 90 % of the brains. With an already established (for the purpose ) European population, why shouldn't they have ruled? Talk about racism, dishonest defences thereof, all you like, but Rhodesia became and remained one of Africa's most prosperous nations under white rule. And at the risk of rolling out the old 'our blacks were happy' line, just ask black Zimbabweans who they preferred, Smith or Mugabe, and few will answer the latter. Your sanctimonious and over the top comment illustrates zero understanding of the situation on the ground in the Rhodesia of the 1960s and 70s

Life expectancy dropped under Mugabe. He had to leave the country for medical treatment which enabled him to have a long life. He didn't care about his people that died early deaths because of the health carethat got really bad under his rule.
