Review of book "Elvis and Kathy" by Kathy Westmoreland

I was so pleased to borrow this rare book from a dear fellow Elvis fan, to read for myself, then tape a review. I am not willing to pay A$1000 for it, but would love to own a copy one day, as it is well worth reading again. A very sensitive insight into Elvis the man by the lady who worked and played with him for seven years, and provided company for him when he was at his lowest ebb in his final days.

Aw, Gina, thank you so much for doing this review! Kathy Westmordland imo is one of the most underrated figures in Elvis' life. Why? I feel because she is grateful and humble about what she was gifted to experience, very realist, too. And she never urged herself into the spotlight like so many others. This book is a real gem, I love it, too. Got it a few years ago after searching for it an eternity! Kathy herself is a gem, too, imo. She knew Elvis very very well, I think they really clicked, their souls did, I'm sure. Her reserved and classy attitude strongly reminds me of Ann-Margret's. Love them singing together (for example in You Asked Me To). I could go on ...🙆 About re-publishing, I read Kathy wanted to correct, maybe add a few things before doing that, obiously she never came round to do that. She is still alive, but sadly not doing fine I've heard. Thanks again!! Best wishes from the other side of the globe, Bavaria🙋🏻

Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate your comments. I agree with you that Kathy has class like Ann-Margret...they are the only two professional female entertainers that Elvis ever dated for a prolonged period of time, and like you, I believe Elvis had a much closer connection to them than his other women through their shared loved of music. (Anita Wood was a singer too, but she wasn't world class like the other two.)

@@Patracat Music is such a strong connector! In general, but especially for Elvis who was living it and feeling it in every fibre of his body 🎶! Yes, Anita Wood had a beautiful voice, too, and was a proud and classy lady who made that fateful choice for Elvis and left because of Priscilla.

So glad that you got your hands on this rarity and were able to read it. I have many of the second rate books, that you referred to including the most trashiest of all, and they are..."interesting". It is great that Kathy always portrayed Elvis in a positive light.

Tyvm for the review Gina! I’m from Brazil, 56yo and have been a fan since 1973 - while watching Aloha from Hawaii! Have been to Graceland a lot of times and got a huge collection but sometimes I’m afraid it will be all homeless after I’m gone you know? I have that book and also many other rarities (not only books, but autographs from ppl related to Elvis, collectors editions, rare imported CDs from Europe and Japan, etc… If anyone is interested on Kathy’s book pls let me know, I’d take in consideration an offer that express the rarity and unique value of that book!

Hi jfulmo, thanks for viewing my channel and leaving a positive comment. Brazil! I am always fascinated to see where everyone who visits this channel come from. Sounds like you have a great collection of Elvis memorabilia. May I suggest that you include a clause in your will that you want all your Elvis gear to be auctioned or sold to Elvis fans, so it doesn't end up at the tip. I have a couple of friends living nearby who are also Elvis fans, and 20 years younger than me. I have specified in my will that all my Elvis gear is given to them to sort out between themselves.

Kathy goes into a lot of detail that I didn't have time to read out. She knew Elvis was married and did not want to become emotionally involved with him, but as they became closer working together, and she saw how unhappy and how sick he was, she reached out to comfort him, and one thing led to another as it does.
