    For $300 less than NAIM's streaming player, the Cambridge EVO-150, ( "150" referring to the 150 Watts into 8 ohms) is a better bargain for sure!! I've had the Bluesound PowerNode 2i in my system and for the money it may still be the best bargain going if you don't have a speaker system that demands a bit more wattage. It drove my KLH Kendall's pleasantly, but still lacked enough power to bring out the best in those outstanding 4 Speaker, 3-Way Towers rated down to 25kh. I replaced the Powernode with a Yamaha A-S801 and added the BlueSound Node2i. The Yamaha's High Current Output of 100wats into 8 Ohms is simply magnificent in taking advantage of such a speaker system. Which is why for the extra $750 bucks, I'd choose the EVO-150. If you are driving a 2 Driver system the EVO-75 may be all you need. In fact unlike the 60watt PowerNode2i, the EVO 75 (75 Watts) is a good choice of power to run a set of Towers. One of the things I absolutley could not get used to was having to pick up my Tablet or Phone to simple turn the volume up on the PowerNode21. The included Remote here will be much more welcome than you might realize as well. Having a screen displaying the information is a very nice feature and should be included at this price range. Also with a "pre-out" stage, something the PowerNode does not have, the possibility for using a different Amplifier is also a plus. With the evolution of Reference Standard Streaming, "All In Ones" make sense!! Just ask any wife who doesn't want a whole bunch of Cables running around her living room!! My Yamaha Intergrated Amplifier (A-S 801) cost $900. But it has no HDMIarc input, and no Pre-outs. The Node2i cost $550, with no screen and no HDMI input. But this combination for the money sounds fantastic, through the KLH Kendall's (A true Bargain in the Loaud Speaker World...$1299 a pair)...all of it too available at World Wide. But if you can afford the premium price, knowing Cambridge's Sonic Heritage, the higher continuous Output (EVO-150) besting even the NAD M10 (100watts), its simply gorgeous design, the on-board buttons, its very intuitive interface, and a physical remote, this may be the new King for an "All in One" Music Steaming Device! I would love to see a review specifically on the APPS used for the top five streaming devices.

    You put a lot out there and I agree the All-In-One players being released are increasing the quality of sound and the design is attractive and made for a living space. While testing the EVO I auditioned it with my living room TV which sits on furniture that traditional audio equipment doesn’t fit in well and doesn’t have the space for the peripherals I’d need to add to get the streaming I wanted. The EVO was a great solution piece because it fit the space, added the streaming I wanted, added the enhanced TV audio with the ARC, and most importantly looked great there. The EVO also didn’t change the functionality of my system while it was setup there because the ARC used HDMI-CEC for volume attenuation and power so I didn’t have to change my control setup with the temporary connection. As for the APP comparison, what would you say the top five are?

    @@RafaelGrigorian I wouldn’t say it’s disappointing. I’d say there is a product for everyone. It’s hard to say one is better than the other because you are comparing a class A/B amp vs. a class D amplifier amp. Also size is a factor for where it can do, and the additional streaming capabilities make the biggest difference.

    Competition for the Naim Uniti Atom?

  • @briansowdenable

    @briansowdenable

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'd say it's good competition for the Naim Uniti Atom. The EVO150 will have more connections like the XLR inputs, a phono stage, and a USB input to go from a computer directly into the unit and not have to stream from the USB ports. And Naim does say the streaming limitation over wireless is 48kHz over wireless network, where i can say for sure the EVO will do 24bit/192kHz. Plus there are a couple little things that make it integrate well like the 12v triggers, the IR in, and the RS232 control. I don't know about the sound difference, but that will be the difference between a Class D amp and a Class A/B amp so it's not fair to use wattage as a "which one is better". My other question would be which DAC was in the Naim Uniti Atom to pick which one would win in a head to head setup.
