    Sound quality maybe?! Options? Lack of headaches! I would never, ever buy this. He said it doesn't sound as good as the CXA81, and their streamer (CXN V2 I think?). And that's not exactly a very special setup by any means. The CXN doesn't even have a nice power supply (no nice big toroidal like the much cheaper Marantz NA6006), and the DACs are very basic in both of those components. These are a complete waste of money, if you're looking for good sound. This is what they call a "lifestyle" product. Go get a Topping D70s MQA, an Allo USBridge Signature, or a Pro-ject Streambox S2 Ultra like I have, and any decent amp. Even a Marantz pm6006, and it will smoke this in sound quality. Heck even just run straight into my cheap $500 Ncore amp from Audiophonics will crush this. Never mind my Exposure 3010 s2d. And I don't have to worry about dealing with software issues, or being on the phone with customer support for hours. All these units are trouble like that. Plus there's no way to add room correction, or an EQ with this either. So you better have a good room, and the ability to add room treatments, just in case. I can just put my MiniDSP SHD Studio in between the streamer, and the DAC. Fire up Dirac, and the problem is solved. Individual components are definitely the way to go. But if not. You would want to deal with a more reputable company. Get a Naim Uniti Atom. Much better unit. By a country mile!

  • @AudioAdvice

    The HK 680 was a great old amp but I think the EVO would certainly be a worthy replacement. Keep in mind that your Azure 851N is also a digital preamp so you could in theory connect a nice power amp to it as long as you are using digital sources.

    I got the cxa81 integrated with my 65 inch tv, media server, denon x3600h, firestick, Google chromecast audio, media server and so much more that I didn't even feel the need of cxn streamer. One thing I have realised is to prioritise software over hardware. I stream my 2 tb collection on plex media server using bubble upnp app on my one plus phone and render it on Chromecast audio. Never felt the need of cd player, phono, streamer, etc. Just one good amp is good to go.

    The Atom sounds better in some respects than the CX streamer and amp. I prefer the warmth of the CA system but if the Evo doesn't sound as good as the CX then it's not going to beat a Uniti. I'm a bit surprised tbh. With this power, the CA Evo 150 should be able to come close to a Uniti Nova, never mind an Atom.

  • @adeypoos

    I doubt the sound of this will approach the Naim Uniti Nova. Then again it shouldn’t at two thirds the price. In terms of functionality it’s almost identical though. It looks great though I prefer the look of the Atom or Nova personally.

  • @jonday49

    @jonday49

    Yeah the Naim Uniti Nova should be much better for double the price of the EVO150, but doesn’t have phono or balanced in. So the EVO will win in functional use for sure, especially having MQA, but that Naim sounds super sweet.

    very well made and pleasing to the eye but horrible if not paired up correctly . i bought one of these for my wife's Klipsch r 800 or some such number and the result was horrible . yes the room is a disaster but that alone doesn't account for why i hate the evo . the volume dial drives me crazy . it endlessly spins with no starting or stopping point and each bit of movement results in very little change to the volume . So , i tried cranking it up and the result was a muddled bass that overwhelmed the highs and lows making for an unlistenable situation . classical music wasn't too ad at very low volumes but as soon as i try to push the speakers it all falls apart . plus i do not like digital menus and screens. im a dial and button type of nut . on/off on the amp , balance , bass and treble dials and a beefy 1 to 10 or twenty volume dial . ok , flame alway 😂😎🔥
