Cambridge Audio Evo 150 Review, All-in-one player // Released TOO LATE?

Cambridge Audio in the last decade has always been a pioneer in the audio industry. They released Minx Xi which was one of the first all-in-one players with a streamer however took quite some time to release an updated modern version. With all movement towards "complete solutions" from NAD(M10) and Naim(Atom) is the Cambridge Audio Evo 150 too late?

tomorrow i'm going to listen to the Nad c700 and the Cambridge audio evo 75. Which of those two would you prefer, now that you have heard the 150. Im going to hook it up to a pair of Dali zensor 3 speakers? Supernice that u did this review. Love it

Thank you! Sound-wise I would have to give it to the Cambridge, user interface(bluesound) a slight edge on the NAD. You have to keep in mind the price difference and if the sound is worth it to you. A more fair comparison would be the new C399 coming out as it uses the new N-core amp. I'm just not sure when it will be available in your area.. Both will work with your Dali!

@@Hifyed haha yeah agree, but i also like the screen on the nad and the Evo. Wat I also like is the fact that the Nad has highpass, lowpass function when a subwoofer is applied. I dont think the evo has that. Is the difference in sound big between the two? And ehh how does one turn of the Nad, i know there is a button oan the back, but that is not easy to reach, when it is on a shell or in a rack?

From what I can recall the NAD has a standby on/off button on the touch screen, I usually just use the app. The main power switch is only in the back however standby does not take up much energy. I think you are correct and the evo does not have high/low pass filters. I can always verify this with my friend at cambridge...In my opinion it is quite a noticeable difference. That's just me! some people may not value the difference as much as I do. Good luck with your demo either way you will be happy!

Great video! The both of you have great camera chemistry together which shows when Marcos finishes Kurt's sentences when he's lost for words. And I really like the walnut panels that gives it a nice appeal. Also, I couldn't help but notice the word recommendation was spelt wrong. Sorry for pointing it out, I'm a bit of a Prescriptivist (my husband can attest to that 😆).

I really love that you do low/high volume test. It's such a important feature on audio products, even more so on speakers 👍 Could you also test Lyngdorf TDAI 1120 ? I would like see how it compares with EVO.

Thank you! Working in the industry all these years people always want to test how well products play at both low and high volumes...I would love to test the Lydorf. I was a big fan of "room perfect". Hopefully, I can get my hands on one soon!

Thank you, Hifyed, for this great video review!...QUESTION: In addition to the EVO 150, will this amplifier drive KEF R11's tower speakers?

No problem! The CXA is more like traditional Cambridge amps. I’m not sure if you have heard the older azur series? The evo series is class d which will sound different. If you have a chance I would highly recommend you have a listen to both to see what you like my best. If it’s possible we should do a comparison video one say🤔

If you think this thing is good, check out the Lyngdorf TDAI 1120. Lyngdorf with room perfect and actual subwoofer integration, i.e a high pass on the mains and it's insane value. Plus no DAC chip to go out of date either, it's not nearly as pretty, but as a product it's truly special. My main bugbear with this EVO 150 is it's running Hypex UCD modules, don't get me wrong, they are amazing, just for the price point of this thing they should have just used the NC modules in my opinion, it's a struggle to see the value in the EVO aside from it's aesthetic appeal.
