    Thanks you a really excellent review. I particularly like the way you talk about day-to-day interaction and just living with the product as sometimes people forget how critically important the user experience is to the joy of long lasting ownership. I also listen to a lot of internet radio and only having 3 presets (on the remote) had put me off a little but you went into much more detail as to some of the gaps. Hopefully these will be fixed via future updates as the EVO150 ticks almost all the boxes for me so am ordering one tomorrow. Looking forward to future reviews.

    Hi Denis. Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. I am trying to find the right format for the reviews, where I combine what I do with a consumer oriented review. I also think that lots of reviewers are just stating the obvious, instead of "walking the walk" with the products.

    I had to sell my old system based upon Naim Uniti Nova which was superb I loved it ,BUT and this is the biggest compliment ,when reduced funds allowed I bought the Evo 150 and have never looked back once! I am still amazed at the sound quality which has continued to improve , loads of power (driving 83db speakers easily) and silent noise floor , its giving me comparable Musical performance to my £20k systems of yesterday sum up no regrets .

    Truly phenomenal review and content. Love the "feedback to the manufacturer segment" and the topic headers you keep in that segment. Gives a very clear account of what challenges/issues a consumer could face living with the product on a long-term basis. Those details are far too often omitted or glossed over in other reviews. Looking at a potential purchase of an Evo 150 to power my PSB Alpha T20s and this review was extremely helpful. Keep up the great work.

Dumbed down - people will have very little understanding of THEIR system . . . Individual parts can't be upgraded - the customer may end up replacing the complete unit when their requirements change

My cheep chineese lamps remote works pretty fine in almost every direction. So the remotes for the toys of my daughter. I aldo do not like the only three preset bottons for the radio. I had only one update at the beginn. Because of the HDMI ARC i contacted the support for the TV ( Samsung) as well the AV ( Cambridge Audio). Samsung replaced the whole electronics by sendin two guys home. Cambridge Audio replaced the whole AV receiver by sending me a new one. The first one they sent to me doesen worked at all- was a factory defect device. The second one they sent was OK. The HDMI issue was sold for a short time. After disconnect ftom the power it was not possible do establisch a connection at all. I wish Cambridge would have made the Evo as a simple stand alone streamer. I did purchase their CXN V2 the other day. I just hooked it up and am still assessing it. The only feature it lacks is an HDMI output with ARC. If they would have installed that one feature, it would have been the perfect streamer. The sound output of it is good, but I am still messing with it to figure out how to get the most pleasing sound and which sources are best to use. These streamers are a bit tricky to set up. Not wildly crazy, just takes some patients.

    Great review, thank you. Have you tested or auditioned the Naim Uniti Atom for comparison? Or the Roksan Atessa? Went to my local stores in Copenhagen and listened to both the Evo 150 , the NAD M10 V2 and 3050 and the Lyngdorf, they all sound fairly similar with the Lyngdorf being a little thin without the calibration. I still prefer the Naim so far and the Atessa is pretty convincing too.

  • @stjernholmreviews

    @stjernholmreviews

    8 ай бұрын

    No, I have not. The thing with room correction is that you cant really compare, if you BENEFIT from the room correction. In that case, you would always get better sound from the amp with the room correction. If you dont need room correction due to a great room, speakers and placement, then you could compare them side by side. In my experience with Naim, it might not be as muscular, but most likely more "musical" in its presentation. More harmonic distortion?

The short (sound value) answer is, that if you want to run small speakers and subwoofers and / or your room is not optimal - The 1120 is the way to go. If you have larger / heavier speakers in a good sounding room, then the EVO 150 would be great. Features, daily use, design and so on is more up to your personal needs and taste!

Again, there is more to it, if you want to apply voicings to your RIAA input, the music style you play and so on. Try it at home, and just listen.

    Do you have a great sounding room, or do you listen close to the speakers? Then chances are that you dont benefit wildly from the room correction the lyngdorf offers. If not, the choice is technically easy. Another thing is the format support. Are you playing DSD files from that server? If that is important, only the cambridge will play it. Estetics and your needs in the future is something to consider too.

    Is it possible to connect a receiver to the evo150 from pre outs? What is xlr in?

    I am not sure I undestand what you want to do? XLR is just another kind of line signal, like RCA but using a balanced connection, that is more robust.

    @@lonelycake4114 ah, ok. You can do that, BUT..it is not so elegant as the EVO does not have a simple home cinema passthough. It means that you will need to set the volume on the 150 to a specific level each time you use it with the AVR, instead of the signal just passing though. This is something that can be added / fixed in the future though, via software updates. Check with Cambridge support!
